This is not only a fantastic campaign issues for Dems to rally support, it's really needed to codify (what was) Roe at a state level & protect women's health issues and bodily autonomy.
Missouri and Arizona are the latest states that will allow voters to decide in November whether to add abortion protections to their state constitutions. If
The two states join six others with similar ballot measures in the upcoming election: Colorado, Florida, Maryland, Nevada, New York and South Dakota.

link New York has it on the ballot as an equal rights amendment. However it's in court now because as written it doesn't say the word abortion - it refers to pregnancy and pregnancy outcomes. This violates the plain language requirement.
I was tickled to see it'll be on the ballot in Arizona. Surely it'll go blue then?
Imagine anybody voting for the abortion protection measure in their state and then voting for Trump. Maybe it does happen, but can you imagine the thought process leading you to that?!
This is very exciting. I hope it passes in all states. Missouri and South Dakota worry me though.
SD once had a total abortion ban in spite of and to challenge roe. Before it could wind its way through courts, voters overturned it by ballot initiative. Have hope! They've done it before and can do it again

Didn't SD vote to legalize weed, but their government back tracked it? I don't remember the details off hand but I'm not hopeful they'll actually listen to voters.

I can't imagine that AZ will vote against abortion. AZ has typically be pretty liberal re: legislative propositions. In fact, its traditionally the only way any progressive causes get traction in AZ.

MO has back tracked a couple constitutional amendments that were approved by the voters in recent years.bI think it will pass but the legislature will find a way to undo it
It passed in Kansas by a great margin in 2022 and that was in an August primary when the GOP thought fewer people would come out to vote.
Also passed in Kentucky.
I am hoping this get more low propensity dems to the polls
It did not pass in Kentucky. There are basically zero abortion providers in the state now. The fund I donate to has shifted to coordinating travel for women to go out of state to get abortions when needed.

and where would they go? The travel costs must be very high.

I can’t speak to the travel costs, but many Kentuckians come to Illinois. Governor Pritzker (who is awesome) had said that anyone who needs an abortion is welcome and safe here. He signed the Reproductive Health Act in 2019, which codified it here.
After reading this thread, I found this article and was shocked to learn that 70 out of 120 counties in KY do not even have an OBGYN. (And since this was written before the vote, I would imagine it’s gotten worse.) I think wanderingback has talked about this being a byproduct of limiting or eliminating abortion options for people. It’s infuriating and incredibly sad because it means that not only can people not get abortion care, but they also are likely not getting vital annual care, either, because not everyone can travel 45 minutes or longer to get a Pap smear.

Like underwaterrhymes said, many go to Illinois, that’s the closest state that allows abortion.

Unfortunately there have always been "maternal care" deserts. Family medicine doctors often provide prenatal and OB care as well. But yes it has just gotten worse in many areas. I know many colleagues, both family medicine and obgyn, who have left areas with worsening restrictions. Many of these areas have a high percentage of Black people. Republicans are dumb and evil.
In a similar vain, I saw someone on social media post a video encouraging Maga (which she was a part of) to not vote on Election Day and instead “stay home and pray for the country”. Yes, that is the best idea I have ever heard! Magas should definitely do that!
Abortion is trending more towards the #1 issues for more people as we close in on the election day & Dems have done a great job of making his a central issues & thus boosting Kamala. I'll be waiting ot hear how these results all turn out too....
Abortion-rights groups have spent at least six times more than anti-abortion groups this year in states with abortion-related ballot measures, Axios' April Rubin reports.
Voters in 10 states are deciding whether to enshrine abortion access to their constitutions. 💰 By the numbers: Abortion-rights groups have spent more than $161 million, compared to $24 million from anti-abortion groups.
Spending on abortion-related ballot measures outpaced spending on measures related to all other issues. Zoom out: Americans have voted for abortion rights every time its been on the ballot since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade.
