I only wash my hair once a week, but never really paid attention to the lather. So, when I was washing my hair the other day, I noticed that it didn't really lather up a lot, so I washed a second time, and then it did lather a lot, so at least now I feel confident that my hair is actually clean lol
I don’t think it’s good for your skin and immune system to wash your whole body in antibacterial soap. I would imagine that’s killing some good bacteria, too?

I’ve started “emulsifying” the shampoo in my hands before I put it on my hair, and it definitely lathers on the first wash.
I put a small amount of shampoo (because my hands are small) into the palm of one hand and vigorously rub my hands together to get small bubbles to form. Then I put that on my hair and lathers just fine because it’s basically halfway there already. I actually do this twice because it’s such a small amount of shampoo the first batch goes on the crown of my head, and the second batch goes on the sides and back. This is only one wash though, I’m not “rinsing and repeating.”
If double washing worked, I would not have been mocked relentlessly in middle school for having body odor. I had plenty of access to as many rounds of soaping I wanted. My problem was no access to deodorant.
I also agreed we could do without less bathing. When I was a kid, we’d take trips back to the old country to visit my grandparents and relatives. Most of them had no running water in the 80s and early 90s. Even kid me never felt like I got clean bathing from a bucket with mostly cold water. Hot water had to be made by heating it on the stove so you only got a small amount for your bathing session. I couldn’t wait to get back home to America to bathe with endless hot water coming out of the overhead shower. It’s extremely rare that I feel that level of “dirty” on my typical day in the US.
For those looking at lather: you get more lather when washing already clean hair because those bubbles aren’t picking anything up. So if it is super frothy on wash 2, then one wash would have been enough. If it doesn’t happen until the third or fourth time, you need double washing,
I doubled washed my hair last weekend to try it out. My report: definitely more lather on the second wash, my hair somehow felt cleaner, and when I blow dried it, it was much more fluffy and full. I couldn't give the full attention to styling it because I was running late, but I'll try again this weekend.
