I recently fucked up and lost a Southwest companion pass for this fall and I feel like such an idiot. I met all the terms (booked and completed travel to HI with cash and points during a prescribed date span) and filled out everything I needed to but I changed the return flight by two days very shortly after booking and even though it still fell within the requirements of the promotion, apparently just the act of changing the flights nullified the offer. We had a great trip to HI but the pass was a big motivator for booking three fairly pricey tickets and I'm bummed. I didn't even realize my mistake until I was on the phone with CS asking about the status and they were like, oh, you messed up. Sigh.
Learn from my mistakes.
Honestly SW has gotten so shady recently. I know people have had problems with them in the past but I have had only had positive experiences. I had a credit card promo that was supposed to drop around 5500 points in my account by 6/30. I just got them last week and it has been a nightmare. Of course the flight I wanted to book with the points is now more expensive. Apparently the complaints and customer engagement departments cannot be reached by phone 😠

Finn is a 65lb rescue doodle who talks a big game. Soon to be stepdaughter got facial piercings this weekend and now Finn doesn’t know her and is terrified. He’ll hide behind me if at all possible and he shakes. If I’m not available he fits his chunky behind under my bed or kitchen table.
sproctopus , our sons have the same style, lol. I don't mind it though.
DS wanted Jordans also. H ordered him some on ebay that were previously worn. They are a little dingier looking than I thought they'd be though, so I need to figure out how to spruce them up a bit.
I watch both The Bear and Emily in Paris. While I know the latter is floof and insanely unrealistic, I enjoy the pretty people. And hating on all of their decisions.
However, the fact that Emily in Paris is silly beyond belief is emphasized by the way each show portrays a young, talented chef pursuing a Michelin star. It's hilarious.
The Bear stresses me out. So much yelling!
We started the most recent season and couldn’t get past the first episode. It was awful and I’ve heard this season isn’t great. Which is too bad, Richie’s redemption was so great last season! Almost made up for the Xmas episode.
Update: we’re home from the hospital! The surgery was fast but it took a long time for the anesthesia to wear off so it was a LONG morning. I’m so glad to be home. She seems much better now!
My husband got me a bag for my birthday from Nordstrom but when I opened it up, it was clearly used??! Pen marks and it has a whiff of old lady perfume. How did the store not notice? It was in the zipped up dust bag and he had checked it was the right color/bag and didn’t inspect the inside (or sniff it lol) but you’d think the store would have noticed when it was apparently returned or then it was packed up for pick up. Who expects to get a used bag?
This is the second time I think I’ve gotten someone else’s used return in the last week! I ordered Dr Martens on sale and they arrived creased across the tops and the side was sort of bent and rubbed on my foot.
At least we can return it in person and not deal with shipping it back?? But give me a break!

Verizon just came and upgraded our router and the box in the basement. I had to give the dog a doggy ice cream because she wanted to be right next to the poor guy while he was trying to hook everything up. Girlfriend loves people.
Today was the first day of school for my kid too. I can't believe she's in 6th grade already! She was ready early today so we left a bit early because usually traffic on the first few days is increased but it was smooth sailing so that was awesome. 1st day of school pics posted of course and I'm loving seeing the other posts too!
H and I got to spend some good time together this weekend. We're struggling right now and working with a therapist so the great times seems extra sweet I think. I'm not sure if we'll make it through this rough spot or not but at least there are some positives happening so it gives us hope & encouragement.
mccallister84, I did talk to someone by phone and she was like, "you can write an email and contact corporate" which I found confusing because...are they not corporate? To be fair, it was in the fine print but it was like 5/8 of the way down in tiny italic script.
The prices have gone up but they are the dominant airline at our airport so we've mostly stuck with them, and the flight crew is mostly super awesome.
Last week we dropped 5k on our oldest dog because she needed surgery to remove bed stuffing from her stomach. That's life!
Has anyone purchased a used car through Carvana? I'm eyeing some Toyota Hybrids but hesitant about buying through them. Any advice?
I bought a Highlander from them in 2022. It was...an ordeal. It was right around the time when they were having problems with titling in various states, which caused all kinds of delays. Once they showed up with the car, everything was good. We got a good price and are very happy with the car itself. But, it was very stressful. I don't know how they are 2 years later. We did have them quote us to buy the car we were getting rid of and found Carmax gave a better deal. It was nice to avoid dealership haggling, but the delays were very stressful. Idk if I'd buy from them again.
Was talking to my mom last night about cell phone plans. She is paying $100/month for two lines: one is a flip phone, the other is an old samsung with 2 GB data/month.
That seems crazy to me? We pay $150 for 5 lines, all newer smartphones with unlimited data.
I really don't want to add my parents to our plan, but it seems criminal for them to be paying that much. I did tell them about two discounts that I get, and they should be entitled to. If they can get them, their bill should go way down ($10/line for using autopay, and $10/line for also using Verizon for internet).
Cell phone companies feel so predatory to me. Especially for seniors who are less likely to understand what they are signing up for, or what the "norm" is technology-wise. That's how we ended up with my MIL on our plan to begin with.

I know nothing about Southwest as I never fly them, but do they have a texting option? Delta is very quick with the texting. They also are very responsive with the online form you can fill out with complaints.

I have spoken with multiple people on the phone and at least three times they have put in a request for customer engagement to contact me and I was told I should have a call within 48 hours. Nada. I have completed complaint and customer engagement forms as directed by customer service. The first time the response was “the points will post within 8 weeks of the end of the promotional period.” This email came a full month after the eight weeks had passed. The response to my complaint was that the points had posted (and in between filing the complaint and hearing back they did). My complain was extremely detailed and was very clear that I was requesting additional points as compensation for this nightmare. That part of my complaint was ignored. I responded to that email asking yet again for someone to call me and explained that while I agree that points had finally posted I still have a complaint. That was August 8.
Anyone I have been actually been able to get on the phone has been wonderful. They just can’t actually help me. From what they have all said the only way to contact customer engagement or file a complaint is through the online forms. At this point I have no idea what else to do as they conveniently ignore whatever they want in the forms I fill out and then don’t respond when I respond back to their emails. If anyone has any suggestions I am all ears. Honestly I had almost posted here asking for any suggestions.
My school's annual professional development conference is Tuesday/Wednesday, so I'm heading up there tonight. Lucky for me, they do it in the center of the state where I live, so I only have a 45 min drive compared to most who are driving a few hours. Meeting a small group of coworkers for dinner at 7pm, and then a large group of us will be going out tomorrow night. I am excited to see everyone. I need to finish packing. It's going to be cooler at night for the next couple days so I may need to rethink my general uniform of shorts and a tank top, lol.
I like being able to catch up with work friends since I only see them once a year, but I'm going to miss DS. I have a lot of feelings this week anyways because his birthday is Thursday and he's also starting second grade on Wednesday so I'll miss seeing him off in the morning, but I know he'll be fine
My dog is on a new antibiotic to try to help resolve his skin issues. This one doesn't seem to help at all, and it seems like his skin condition is getting worse. He also got a Cytopoint injection at his last visit a few weeks ago, so I thought it would've kicked in by now. We have a vet appointment on Friday anyways, so holding out until then on getting his skin looked at. Outside of trying to find a vet dermatologist (which I imagine will be $$$$, and likely the closest one will be at the Michigan State School of Vet Sciences, which is over an hour away), we don't know what else to do.
My dog had a weird skin issue last summer and again this spring. He was breaking out in hives all over his body and eventually his muzzle was a scratched up, bleeding mess. Eventually we realized the timing aligned with when we opened a new bag of dry dog food. It was the same food we had always fed him, but the new bag had a new additive or something. We switched him to rice and chicken for a few weeks to let it pass and then found a new dry food. It started again this spring with some random dog treats, so we had to work through it again.
Do you think there's something food related going on? Even if it's the same food he's always had?
I am watching the Laci Peterson documentary on Netflix right now… not sure why, I don’t think there is any new information anyone could learn at this point, but I work from home and like background noise that I don’t have to pay 100% attention. I freaking hate this guy SO much! That poor woman.
I also give his mistress a lot of credit for being emotionally calm and contacting the police before calling him and freaking the F out. Not sure I could have done that, but she helped them so much.
Also, his family sucks for failing to realize he is a guilt POS.

He has been on Purina Pro Plan large breed sensitive skin & stomach for a few years now, but even when we had switched him to that food, he would have flare-ups. It definitely could be that they changed to formula. I actually was recently talking with a few friends, and they mentioned switching him to beef or chicken and rice for a little while to see if his skin improves. Maybe we just need to give that a try. I will have DH ask the vet on Friday if there would be another food we could try for our dog.
We had him on Apoquel for about 2 years, but had to take him off it last year due to him developing diarrhea due to the Apoquel.

I just got back from lunch with a friend from Chicago where I asked him if he watched The Bear. I love love love both seasons. He said that he tried but there was too much yelling ! Haha Didn’t bother me at all (but episode 6 “Fishes” man, that was rough and episode 7 was shot in ONE TAKE).
My coworker just used the phrase "bang that guy in the face" multiple times in a call to mean "solving a problem in a direct manner". I had trouble containing my laughter...

My bff let me know yesterday that her ds had lice. He had just gone to Kalahari a few days ago, and she assumed he had gotten it there (the kid he went with has it too), and we hadn't seen him since then.
She couldn't get in to the lice removal place yesterday, but called while there today because nope, he's actually had it all summer according to how much and the age of the lice, and she and her dd had some too. Her dd had slept over on Friday in my dd's bed, and we had vacationed with them back in June where ds slept in the same bed with her ds at times.
So I did not hesitate to call and immediately take my kids in to get us checked too. Luckily we are all clear, phew. I feel bad for my bff though. She is not good with dealing with icky things, so this is a nightmare for her!
I'm not sure I've ever issued a reminder on this, but if you are emailing someone you don't know and they have two first names (Like Mary Ann or Jon Paul or whatever) use both names unless they tell you otherwise. It is such a pet peeve of mine for people to default to the first part of my name, which I loathe. The fact that my legal first name, which happens to have two parts, is in my email signature, my email address and I've signed it after every interaction we have is maybe an indication of that. Interestingly, hyphens and even making it one word, both of which I've experimented with over the years, do not help. If you are a vendor, know that this sets me against you from the word go but I also hate you a little bit no matter who you are if you do this.
ETA: Unless you are in a heavily Catholic country like Italy, France or Spain or the very deep US south, please do not saddle your child with a two part first name. I have wished my entire life for a simple name like Kate or Jen. (But not the short version of my name, which as we've established, sucks.)

circa1978, I have a similar issue because my last name can also be a female first name (though the spelling is slightly different). Because people who don't know me and are emailing me will often address me as "Dear LastName" I am hyper vigilant and make sure that I look at things like an email signature to make sure that I am always addressing someone correctly.

Yep! When we found out how much MIL/FIL were paying, we added them to our plan and just pay their bill. They were getting screwed for so long.
We are having huge issues at work with communication which has trickled down to morale.
We were excited that were able to internally promote two qualified people. And now we can take their jobs and promote again.
Except the boss doesn't seem to get it. And I sent what could be construed as the not nicest email that basically said, we have the opportunity to promote 2 internal people, there are 8 eligible. When we're having so many problems at the Div Chief level, wouldn't this be great for morale?
We're all so confused, why wouldn't we be trying to keep people?

I watched it. I had heard her name and knew the husband was found guilty but I def knew pretty much knewnone of the info in the documentary. I don’t think documentaries are necessarily made to share new info to people that are faniliar with cases but introduce other people to the info/story. Definitely a sad story. I’m not surprised his family has stuck by him!
