litskispeciality , I've planned enough kids birthday parties and a couple of BBQs to know:
1. Maybe= No
2. They should have used evite because they send the reminders out automatically and it isn't annoying.
3. RSVPs are super annoying for the host, but unless you hurt someone's feelings (no show no text), you are good with either option.
If you drop out, it's really not that big of a deal assuming illness or something like that, and if you add on last minute what are they going to say, no you can't come to this event that I invited you to. They just want a general idea of numbers so they can plan. And the swing of drop off and add ons usually cancel themselves out (usually). That is as long as you don't still owe money if you drop out.
Last year I was determined to buy a chair or two for my front porch and never pulled the trigger because everything I liked was pretty expensive. I don't want to spend a lot because it's not going to be used much - it's more to have something to fill the space and prevent me from allowing random detritus to accumulate. One chair that I love is almost $100 off right now... definitely the best price I've seen. I've checked on this particular chair repeatedly over the last year. Should I splurge on a chair?

I was prepared for it when I went from a 6.5 to a 7 in my first pregnancy.
I was semi-prepared for it when I went from a 7 to a 7.5 in my second pregnancy.
I was not prepared to go from a 7.5 to an 8 in my early 40s, in the absence of pregnancy, weight gain, etc. etc.
But here I am, in shoes 1.5 size larger than 10 years ago. It took me a little while to figure it out, and in the meantime I had a lot of shoes that rubbed in weird places or only under certain conditions. Turned out I just needed larger ones.
I was bitching earlier this month that Southwest didn't give me companion status for completing an offer b/c I had a very minor change in dates, but I wrote their corporate office, and they sent me the nicest apology and honored the offer. Huzzah!
Is there something you can put inside a shoe to keep it from rubbing on the side of your foot? I got the Dr. Martens Jorge II Slingbacks and the left one is rubbing a bit where the buckle strap attaches to the body of the shoe . I saw some patches for the sides of heels but they look smaller. I’d rather not tape up my actual foot.
Normally I’d just return them but they were only $40 and the right side is fine.

deadwing , get the chair! It's ok to buy things you want unless it's going to put a crunch on your budget.
Buying the chair will not hurt my budget... it just seems somewhat wasteful. I have a well appointed patio where I do most of my outdoor sitting. The porch would be a lovely spot to sit otherwise - it got use before I put the patio in.

Can you share the link? I just realized we have been in our new house for almost a year and still don’t have front porch chairs.

After 8.5 years between two kids, tomorrow is my last day as a daycare parent, ever.
I made it through pre-k graduation in June, no problem. I celebrated (correction, still am celebrating) being done paying for daycare. I giddily calculated how much my new, post-daycare life is going to save me (around $12k/year, just trading daycare for after school + summer care + public kindergarten).
But all of a sudden it is time to get my and H's door key fobs ready to turn in, and it's time to say good bye to the community where my youngest went in a wee one, and walked out ready to catch a school bus, where the teachers all wave to me in the mornings when they are commuting in and I am out on my morning runs. The one place where they all call DS "Seanie" instead of Sean. After 8.5 straight years, I never again have to make sure I wash nap bedding over the weekend to take back in on Monday. I don't actually even need those A&A swaddle blankets anymore, that became daycare nap blankets.
Because I cope via food, I ordered danishes and bagels and coffee from Panera for the staff that we will bring in the AM.
I know this is good, in basically every way! But I am having a tiny moment.
As someone who manages a center, please share your warm feelings with the staff & management. We always hear when people are unhappy, and it is such a boost to receive positive feedback, too.

Thank you, this is really helpful. I may message the bride back since she's so in to this and ask for more details. Even if they're finalizing a restruant a general it will be in x town, starting at y time (or even we're aiming for 7 PM, stay tuned)" would really help. Again it's hard enough for me to commit or a lot of reasons, but even just getting there by a certain time as it's over an hour away makes it harder to plan. I can't imagine parents committing without a start (and general end we have the room for so many hours) time, and/or location to judge what time you need to leave is a hassle...so give the guests grace if you don't have a set plan.
I also want to go as I never get out anymore. If I wasn't excited I would just say no and leave the group message (no reason needed, but I think the bride would understand.) Maybe though a RSVP date right after Labor Day, which is still a month prior to the event, would give people better head space with end of summer, back to school etc.
litskispeciality, yeah usually with the evite events everything is set, date, time, place and then people say yes or no.
I get they are in the "planning stages" and trying to get input/ accommodate people, but it is pretty hard to ask if people are coming with no time or location lol.

I was able to bring DD to the P!nk concert last night and it was so worth it! We were able to use ADA parking right out front and use elevators. Our seats were pretty high up but it was still a great experience. It was her first concert as well as the friends we went with and they all loved it. I’m excited to watch her at the DNC tonight too!
I had tears when me and DD were singing along to “Try” together. We both love that song and it’s definitely been one of my strength songs during this stage of my life. I love the message for her too, about getting up and trying and not letting life knock you down.

Oddly, I had to size down because my normal size was like a clown shoe. They don’t seem to have half sizes. Good idea though.
My feet got bigger in the last few years too! And I’ve lost weight! That’s why I’ve been on a shoe buying binge; my current cooler weather shoes all don’t fit or have really worn out.
Going to the MN state fair today. I’m so excited to eat and drink all the things!
Report back! I want to go someday.
We didn’t make it very long. It started to rain pretty hard which sucked. Before the rain we got mini donut flavored beer, 3 kinds of hard seltzers, mini donuts and 4 kinds of cotton candy for the kids. Some kind of Cajun pork on a stick that was really good. Deep fried olives which were also really good. Sweet Martha cookies which is tradition. I’m not sure we got anything that was new this year. I never go with a plan because we go with the kids and I don’t want to be disappointed if we don’t get to something. It was a good quick trip.
As I sit on the couch this evening, my brain is singing “I’m not sick but I’m not well.” I’m still feeling like it’s most likely a sinus infection and not travel crud/Covid. But, I’m huddled under a blanket and in a hoodie, which says fever developing. Ugh.

I asked H for another blanket, he brought me one and a Covid test. And sure enough… bright line after 90 second. Fuckity fuck

I was tempted to post that it was probably time to actually take a Covid test, but I didn't want to be that person, but then I saw your other update. Womp womp, I'm sorry!

Yeah.. I see so many on here talk about it being like this now, that it was on my mind. But I also know the current strain takes awhile to turn positive, sometimes even with symptom. So, now I’m wondering how long my ragweed allergies (super common for me in august) have been going on. And when it actually started.
Also, when I picked it up. My flights were Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday evenings. Which again seems quick. Like, am I even in the 5 days since symptoms because I’ve had allergies for a week? Well, I have a video appointment at 9am so I’ll discuss all this and see what she says about paxlovid.
