This is fucking amazing and I love this idea for him! he is PISSED that the DNC was so awesome and he wants to one-up it. In all likelihood, it will never materialize, it’s another thing that he will be showing everyone “in 2 weeks”. Best case scenario is that it actually happens because it will be a disaster and nowhere near the scale and production value of the DNC. He’s trying to get a re-do of his pathetic convention.
This is the kind of shit that will convince a portion of the R’s that he is not presidential and they should just sit this one out. Not his base of course. But I personally know a number of people in my very red town that are for the first time voicing that they can’t vote for either candidate, which is an improvement over them saying they were going to hold their nose and vote for Trump because they had no other choice. Not voting is now occurring to some R’s as an appealing choice.
Tickets are $1500!!! Just another grift. I cant even with the nerve of him. 🤯
I’m actually surprised because while this panders to his MAGA base, I can’t imagine moderates or independents liking this. Maybe I’m wrong… I watched the video in the article and it was chilling. I don’t under how anyone can believe his lies about Jan6 when it’s all on video.

I listened to NPR's Fresh Air podcast interview with Anne Applebaum about her new book Autocracy, Inc. a couple of weeks ago and the part about the lying being the point was really chilling. Essentially, autocrats gain and prove their power by lying about everything, which causes further disengagement. She explained it a lot better than I am, and it was really relevant to our current situation.

not calling you out specifically noodleoo, because lord knows I've done it too, but I think we all need to stop being surprised at the lies and that people say they believe them. Like...we all read some George Orwell in school right? The blatant lies are in fact a FEATURE of this shit. It's part of the package. we can't keep being surprised at things right out of the Descent to Fascism Playbook because we all need to remember that there IS a playbook and that they're following it.

“Tickets for the event start at $1,500 and are intended to "help cover costs and support the defendants and their families, with exclusive benefits and recognition at the gala."”

I'm listening to the Rise and Fall of the Third Reich on audiobook right now. It's 60 hours long and goes into insane detail about the rise of Hitler. The parallels between the two men and how they operate with so much bravado and lying are horrifying.

it's so gross, but I'm glad for anytime he shows his ass again & the Dems have some fresh material to run oppo ads against him and remind people of his vileness

I appreciate your sentiment. It makes me feel less crazy when I am assured (& I assure myself) that these are lies and I am not crazy. Because it makes me feel crazy. I do think we should keep saying it. At least I need to keep reminding myself not to be surprised. It comes so unnaturally to me to assume that it is a feature of the con.
Recently, TFG was forced to submit a disclosure form for something. It said he raised $300K for those Trump sneakers (pre-orders, have they even been manufactured yet??). I literally said to myself, “Well, the only thing I am sure of is that he DIDN'T raise $300K.”
I'd forgotten about the weird buffets of fast food that he'd serve.
How could you possibly forget this display of riches?
There is MUCH I did not understand. But for some reason this one really got to me. Was it the smugness? “Oh, look, look how smart we are to serve an assortment of fast food! We are so smart.” Are you? Is this smart? Why are you being smug about this? Was it that it was not served in warming trays so it was absolutely cold sandwiches?? So, the White House was serving cold fast food sandwiches.
I think it was just a really obvious crack in the con. The head nodding and agreement when it was obviously WRONG WRONG WRONG.
In my defense, there was just so much wrong with his presidency that I think my brain just stopped absorbing it all.
It was fresh on my mind because for some reason I don't remember last week I was thinking how Steph Curry and the warriors didn't go to the white house. They were going to come to a team decision, but before they could meet, trump rescinded the invitation. Which led me to thinking about the fast food feast.
I get the it was during the shut down, so no catering staff, but the so-called billionaire couldn't spring for outside catering for these stellar collegiate athletes? Even olive garden would have been worlds better.
So I hope these tratiors aren't expecting much for their $1500. It'll be a dry chicken breast, some cold pasta salad, and a piece of lettuce and tomato for a side salad.
