I’m feeling a lot better from my Covid bout but still have fatigue and not my normal energy. I have not left the house since we got back from vacation a week ago and probably won’t leave until I have to go to a team offsite on Thursday lol. It’s going to be a heat index of like 115 then next couple days so no thanks.
I am getting tired of just rotting on the couch though. I plan to paint my nails today at least. I wish I could sit on my patio for a change of scenery but again, the heat index 😩
It's been a nice weekend! Friday DS and I just hung out here and ordered pizza and he played outside with friends a bit. Then, one of my friends came down for a drink on the porch.
Yesterday H was at a golf tournament til 6pm, so I took DS to the beach at the lake for a couple hours, then we met my parents for dinner so they could give DS his birthday presents. I had French onion soup and mussels and it was all really delicious. When we met back up with H at home, we decided to walk to the brewery for a beer and to hear the live music there. We ended up running into people, staying longer than anticipated and then brought 4 people back home to have another drink on our patio. They were all out by 11pm though, thankfully.
Today I'm just doing usual Sunday stuff - made a grocery order, took a walk, laundry, etc. This afternoon I'm going to take DS to the community pool for a few hours. It's probably the last time we'll be able to go since they close on Labor Day and we have plans all weekend. Grilling steaks tonight for dinner.

Today was DD1’s HS orientation - they take the kids on a retreat for 2 nights/3 days. I could have sworn that she needed to be there at 11, but at 8:48 I realized she needed to be there at 9:15, and we live about 30 minutes from her high school. Luckily she had packed yesterday, but it was really crappy to have to get her out of bed and out of the house so quickly. We were only 10 minutes late, which feels like a small miracle. I am positive she left things behind that she needs and I feel terrible. And while they are allowed to take phones, DH and I had said yesterday that we didn’t think she should - we were worried she would use it as a crutch and not socialize. But now I can’t even text her to check in. She was so nervous. UGH. This all sucks. The last two weeks of August are always terrible in our house because they are DH’s busiest at work and I’m trying to launch a school year at work. And now we have the added complication of having a kid not at my school. I really feel awful. 😞 Hopefully she will find her people and have a great time and she will forget all about those terrible 45 minutes (FWIW she seemed unfazed by the timing…it was a me problem).

L was not cast in her school play, but was chosen as assistant stage manager - which she is excited about. So a loss and a win. I think it'll actually be a good role for her.

Sorry she didn't get a role, but asst stage manager is fun! Hope she has a great time!

I loved being stage manager in HS, I hope L has a blast!

Fun fact: Sams Club auto techs cannot accept tips in the store, but can outside the garage bay. Yes, my mom chased the man down and insisted he take cash. 🤦🏼♀️

My pool day was cut short by my neighbor trying to draw H and I to her crazy conspiracy theory talk. It started off with talk of aliens and how they were living in Area 51 and the govt kept it a secret. Which I was willing to just ignore. But then she jumped to trump, covid being a hoax, covid vaxes cause death, and other fake news bullshit. So I just quietly packed my stuff to leave. She tried to apologize with “I’m sorry you if you were offended” to which I just said, I hope you have the day you deserve with a bright smile and kept walking.
I’m not even annoyed that we left when we did (bc I recognize I didn’t actually have to). But I’m annoyed that I’m going to see the crazy cakes woman around bc she lives so close.
Other than this, though, it’s been a lovely low key weekend , haha.
Anyone has experience with a 2021 Toyota Venza? We're eyeing one that's a good price and has all the features. We enjoyed test driving it, but wondering if others heard anything. The reviews are mixed.
I had planned a "me" day today which ended up getting cancelled bc DD hurt herself yesterday. I had hoped that she would feel better when she woke up but she didn't and cancelled her plans.
I ended up completely unable to pivot and did nothing but clean the basement and pick up a few groceries today. I didn't even get anything to make for tonight's dinner so we are still all just sitting around hoping someone else decides something.

We got DD settled into her temporary room. I repainted an old mirror from when I was a kid for her room. She was thrilled! DS was amazed and so surprised that it was the same one. Lol. I’m looking forward to hanging it up in the house when she’s back in her old room. Lol.
The contractor is coming tomorrow night finally. I also need to take our laundry to the laundromat tomorrow, and pick up the groceries I ordered tomorrow. So, in anticipation of much nonsense, I’m just chilling for the afternoon, guilt free! DH is gone too, so it’s so quiet! 😃
Thank you! I might request just out of curiousity to be prepared for future lies. But really there is no point. Pretty sure he's lying based on his made up details anyway- he said he commanded 122 people as a sergeant. Ok lol. Why do some people lie compulsively, especially when they are so bad at it? And why does he feel compelled to one up his son? H just got promoted to manage 8 people, and his dad's response is that he led 122 in the army. Wtf is wrong with you dude.
My MIL loves to one up anyone. We are in NY, she is in VA. I really have 0 contact with her unless we go visit and I prefer it that way. She is a compulsive lier. We moved from VA to NY where I grew up in 2010. Have not even gotten a birthday card from her since. She even forgot my H’s this year.
Perimenopause/menopause really sucks. I had terrible insomnia in my 20s and now its back. I am so fatigued, irritable, and irrational that I don't even want to be with myself! I've been doing fairly well at keeping my irritability in check, but that is contributing to my exhaustion. Oh, and my nipples are on fire and my breasts feel like they weigh 50 pounds. All of the medical advice is just bullshit. Do breathing exercises, cut back on caffeine and spicy foods, go for a walk. If men had all of this going on there would be better solutions. /rant
Luckily, we have a fairly low key weekend after several busy, people filled weekends.
Wallflower , I'm sorry you and the surviving wife had to learn about the cheating. Why wouldn't partner 1 have destroyed that journal knowing her diagnosis! I really like the Vera Wang towels from Kohls. They are fluffy, absorbent, and hold up really well.
Get yourself on HRT! It will be life changing, you don’t have to suffer!
And if you haven’t read it, The New Menopause would be a great place to start for information about hormone therapy. I would read/listen to that and get a second opinion. From what I’m learning, HRT does have some drawbacks, but also significant preventative benefits as well for things like cardiac disease and osteoporosis.

lilypad1126 - practice the words, "I don't want to talk about this (I'm not interesting in this), thank you." It's fine and not rude to tell someone that you are not interesting in chatting about conspiracy theories or Trump. Especially with this woman. I've had to use it a few times myself with family.
I’m trying to get Global Entry for me and the kids and the process to get interviews is so annoying. The only location in MA is booked through the end of September - fine. But they won’t even let me make appointments for after that date, so I need to keep going in every morning to see when/if they open up appointments for after that date. And of course I need to get 3 separate appointments - there’s no way I’m getting 3 in a row. DS1’s pre check expires in January and DS2 turns 13 and needs to get his own pre check in a few months. I’ll be really irritated if I can’t get this Global Entry done before all that.
Is Global Entry different than TSA Pre-check? I haven't flown internationally with my kids, but on Domestic Flights their boarding passes automatically print with TSA Pre-Check even though I'm the only one that has it. I thought I read that they would fall under mine until 18. We're traveling internationally next year for the 1st time and DD will be 18 so I was going to get it for her, but wasn't going to for DS16.

These are good words, thanks! I did actually say "Wow, aliens and trump all at once? No thank you!" but I was facing my H so I'm sure she thought I was saying it to him more than her. But this is a good reminder that it's not actually rude to say that to someone. I appreciate it, bc of course my inclination is to second guess myself!

Global Entry includes Pre-check and has the extra benefit of a expedited process going through customs upon return to the US (it costs $100 and you need to do an interview before getting it). For pre check if your kid is u set 13 they automatically go in the pre check line with you but it’s not a guarantee after 13. So we just get our kids their own pre check at 13 so we don’t need to worry about it

I'm pretty sure each person, even kids, have to have their own KTN (Known Traveler Number) for Global Entry.

The last time I flew internationally, I think I cleared customs in a matter of minutes. Unless I flew at least a few times a year internationally, I would not go out of my way or pay for expedited customs.
