If you have this organized or set up in a way that makes you happy, please show it to me and/or recommend specific containers. I’m about to give away everything I have and start fresh because I’m so sick of nothing fitting together and rogue lids.
We primarily use Pyrex Snapware. I like them because I prefer glass dishes (can reheat leftovers for lunches, doesn't stain/retain smells, can bake small portions of meals in them) and the lids are easy to wash because the seals don't have crevices that hide food/mould. I bought a couple boxes with several sizes and have bought a few individual sets of the sizes we use the most (4 cup square).
I also have a few canning jars with plastic Ball lids (bought separately in a 6 pack) that we use for a variety of things.
ETA: for organizing them in the cupboard, the Pyrex dishes stack according to their size and I have a basket to store the lids standing up.
All of the storage ones are in one big deep drawer in our island. I use an ikea bin for the lids.
We have one set of Pyrex bowls that are serve/store for us, so I have them in the cabinet next to the stove. Their lids live in a smaller ikea bin.
The key for me is sticking with basically two brands. Although our Pyrex outlet went out during Covid, and I don’t know where I’ll get replacement lids now.
I mostly use Pyrex. I have a range of sizes that nest so they don’t take up a lot of room. For plastic containers, instead of Rubbermaid, I use deli containers from the restaurant supply store. I wash and reuse them over and over, but if one gets stained or someone doesn’t return one, it’s less of a loss than Rubbermaid. I bought one pack of 16 oz containers years ago and still have most of them.
The key, I think, is honestly not having a lot. We used to have way more food storage containers and it was a mess. But when I really went through and thought about what we needed I got rid of most of it. Now we just have the glass set, the few containers we use for kid lunches, and a few random specialized ones (like for salad dressing and sauces - DH loves to make condiments). We keep them all in a drawer with lids on. Since we don’t have many there’s plenty of room to keep them in there with lids on.
Very occasionally we need more food storage than we have containers for (like thanksgiving) but then we can always use something like a bowl with Saran Wrap or something. You (usually) really need a lot less than you think

Another vote for the glass Snapware. We bought two boxes of them at Costco, and they’ve held up well over the years. I’ll never go back to plastic.
I’ve tried all different things. Ultimately, a big basket I can throw everything in is all that works for me. I do snap lids on to containers as they are washed .

This is my suggestion as well. We have really pared down our food storage containers to a handful of sizes that we use often. For events like thanksgiving we have a few larger containers that are actually disposable and those live up on a high shelf out of the way and only come out once a year. The rest of the time, we struck to the tried and true sizes.
Agree 100%. When you have one or two of a bunch of different brands and styles is when things get chaotic. I have one nested set of round Pyrex and one rectangular, and then a stack of the deli containers. So it’s a minimal footprint and nothing is falling or getting lost.
We have big drawers in our kitchen island and two of them are for kids plastic plates/bowls and Tupperware. They work great to be able to see everything in them.

We switched to deli containers and I can’t recommend it enough. They all use the same lid and they’re inexpensive enough that I can send people home with leftovers if needed. We just have a small lazy Susan in our cabinet and it holds all the containers. Amazon has variety packs for like $20.

We use glass only and a few large metal bowls for things like stew. It doesn’t necessarily look pretty but we store the bowls in this deep drawer we have with the lids sitting next to it and the rectangular glass containers are on our pantry/storage shelf. We don’t have plastic or a mishmash of different things so that helps keep it a bit organized.
We use the Pyrex snap ware too, and our metal mixing bowls have silicone non-slip bottoms and matching color coordinated lids which makes it easy to store things like salad and cookie dough. I think we bought them on Amazon.
We also have two sets of the Costco glass pyrex with snap lids.
I store the small rectangles on one shelf, and stack the lids together and store them vertically next them held between the wall and the dishes. On a lower shelf I nestle the big rectangles on bottom, then squares, then circles. The lids are stored vertically next to them as well in that same order.
I also have a few plastic Rubbermaid containers, and those I store stacked together, with the matching lid stacked behind them.

I have several pieces of Pyrex Ultimate (glass/silicone lids) that I have been using for years. Pyrex used to sell the pieces and lids individually but now it only seems to be available in a set. The Ultimate lids are the best I have ever found for a glass container - easy to clean, leakproof, non-warping. I am seriously considering buying a backup set to keep on hand in case they stop selling it altogether, I love it that much.

We use Pyrex. Stack like sizes together and lids standing up. I just got a set of mixing bowls with lids because I do a lot of food prep, and needed larger containers to put in the fridge.
Pyrex go up top in a cabinet; bowls go down with my mixing bowls etc.
I also have a set of these. And my 9 x 13 and 9” square glass baking pans also have lids and can be pressed into service for storage when needed. Having sets that can be used for prep / cooking and storage is another way to keep things fairly minimal.
Thanks, guys. I need to think through this. We do a lot of meal prep, so need some larger containers on a regular basis for storing larger quantities of prepared food. A lot of the rest of what we have could probably be pared down significantly, but I need to really go through all of it and figure out what we aren't using regularly.

I use the glass snapware as well, but one key for me is I hand wash the lids and they have lasted forever. At least as long as we’ve lived in this house (8 years) if not longer.
I’ve started to do more lunch prep and I bought a set of the Rubbermaid brilliance (glass). I have not been babying these lids so will see how long they last.

We have the pyrex set from costco and some ikea glass ones. I prefer the ikea ones, the sizes work better in our cabinet and have held up really well. We have a small cabinet dedicated to them and I store all with their lids on. We don't have a ton but have found that keeping the lids on makes them all more usable vs always ending up with the wrong size/missing/extra lid.
