My wrist is itchy beyond itchy, and I can't figure out what is causing it....something from Monday's surgery. It's red and inflamed.
Did you have any tape in the area where it's itchy? I found out from my c-sections that I'm apparently allergic to the type of tape that was used to hold my bandages on and I get SUPER itchy from it.
livinitup, Sounds like a science nerd teacher sharing enthusiasm and that's great. If it were me, I would say something along the lines of being able to separate the contributions of an individual while recognizing the sketchy parts.
wanderingback, I'm glad things turned out OK for you. DH had a colleague from work who flew to Nice for a meeting two days after returning from Tokyo, so his sleep was all jacked up. He was normally a very fastidious man. He took a sleeping pill intending to reset his clock and sleep. When the alarm went off he slept through it. They called from downstairs and he slept through that. The fire men knocking on his door woke him and he opened the door in boxers. They threw a sheet over him and physicals carried him kicking and screaming into the street where he tried to fashion himself something akin to a toga from what his team said. I don't think he ever recovered.
My small hall bath refresh is suffering from project creep. I went over to take care of mom's cat while she's out of town. I think she'd, um, thinking outside the box, as it were. Surely a 13 year old cat would pee at least once in 24 hours. She hides on me, so assesses her health is tricky. She came out for DH; he said she seemed OK.
My bff's kids run CC and she's been telling me how their practices/meets have been having all sorts of last minute changes due to the heat. It's hard to keep up with, but also better for them to be safe. A local lacrosse coach is under investigation around here because he made kids practice doing bear crawls or something like that on a track during this heat, and they have severe burns from it.
I tend to lean more towards safety side than most, but have trusted the kids' coaches, but then when even DH was surprised about yesterday I figured I wasn't too far off. It's all a hard call at times, but seems like there should be some streamlined guidelines like a yes/no decision tree for outdoor sports. Seems odd that in the same district one team is called off/time adjusted and not for another of the same sport. I know practice facilities indoors are a premium and people cannot all just change their schedules last minute though.
I definitely side-eyed that DD2's XC team had regular outdoor practice yesterday and was really glad when she came home and said that the kids had an option to either run on their own early this morning (they don't start school until 9:30 so this is realistic for a lot of them) or run inside at the regular practice time this afternoon, due to the heat advisory.
She got up at 5:15 a.m., lol, which was probably overkill but the way she wanted to do it. So it was nice and cool, and she got to see the sunrise.
She had optional practices over the summer and on the heat advisory days, she ran early instead of running with the team. They started at 7:30, and by then it was already pretty miserable. She would go at 6 a.m. when things were still tolerable.
ssmjlm I'd definitely move offices if it's already 81 degrees in the AM, it's just going to get worse as the day goes on.
Another 545 am CC practice for DS1 due to heat index. We incorrectly assumed that DS2's after school CC practice yesterday would be indoors since it wasn't canceled like DS1's/the high school. No, they ran outside in it though they did do some indoor conditioning. He came home and showered and then melted down. We told him he could take today off. He was in a meet Monday night that was 26 teams so got home late and then the extra hot practice yesterday. I'm pretty sure last year the day after a meet was a recovery day/day off. Tomorrow will be high heat index too, then should go back down and plus he will have a 3 day weekend.

That same thing happened here this summer with football captains practices. I guess they were doing bear crawls on the turf and a bunch of kids got really bad burns.

I have been feeling super run down this week and just overall not good. One of the kids who was at our house last weekend for DS bday party tested positive for Covid a couple days ago. Ughhhh I hope I don't have it!

DS made the "A" team for soccer as a 3rd grader in a 3rd/4th league and he's really proud, which makes me so happy. I was worried he would be mad that he's not with his friends, but he is excited to challenge himself. Yay!

I went to urgent care for my "cellulitis". The NP said it's shingles. I am so confused because it doesn't hurt the way everyone says shingles hurts - constant burning, nerves on fire. She started me on antivirals so hopefully if it is shingles the antivirals will kick it for good. I am just confused why if it wasn't cellulitis the last two times it responded quickly to antibiotics for the most part. I have an appointment later in September with a derma pathologist.
There are only 5 girls in my daughter's advanced math class. Less than 20%. Dislike.
Yep. There were 6 girls in DD’s advanced math class in 5th grade. The good news is that the girls all bonded and are still very supportive of each other now in 8th. Less girls meant almost zero drama. She also became good friends with some of the boys who are still good friends/allies today. Unfortunately that trend has continued. There are 34 people in DD’s geometry class. Like 5 or f them are girls. In 5th grade she didn’t really realize how outnumbered she was. Now she does.
I just got back from the tile store where I picked up a few boxes shipped from another location and bought a threshold for the project. Some old guy who is in someway related to the store-- a regular contractor/customer or maybe a deliver driver-- mansplained using a debit card when I was paying. I tapped the terminal and the payment was approved. All the while this clown is correcting me and telling me I need to insert the chip. He actually tried to take the card and show me how to do it properly.
Pajama devotee here. I like matched sets sort of Ward Clever style, but for ladies. Short sleeve in the summer, long sleeve in the winter. I even sew them for myself out of my favorite fabrics. Sometimes I make a matching robe.
I can handle any nighttime fire drill in style.
I feel like it's not going to surprise you to hear me say that I often enjoy your posts, but this? This is my new favorite.
I’m embarrassed to admit that in college I lived on campus in a tower and stayed in bed during a middle of the night fire alarm because I was “pretty sure” it was a false alarm. I was probably hung over and still wearing my going out outfit. Would have won that Darwin Award for sure if it had been real!
wanderingback - but, putting babies in their cute little pajamas before bedtime is one of best parts of parenthood!
On another note, my women’s comedy group is having a sleepover on Saturday and I am not staying overnight because my husband and daughter are still a little awkward together (she just returned home after a summer abroad) and they’d both appreciate me being home until they readjust to being around each other.
The host graciously said I could bring one or the other along, if that would help. Then one woman said: “Yeah! Please consider bringing her along. I like [Hs name]- we often run into each other at concerts, but leave him at home, ha!”
WTF.
ETA: this is not a strictly woman-only event. The host’s husband and son will be there, and all of us were invited to bring any family members we wished. That said, I don’t know if anyone, but the host will be bringing anyone.

Did you go to Pitt? If you were 10th floor or higher I don't blame you! Hauling up that many flights of stairs because someone was smoking? I know the feeling. Haha

I had shingles mis diagnosed as cellulitis. While it was uncomfortable I never had the pain that others describe. However, my rash did not get any better with the antibiotics. I also had developed discomfort before the rash started, which is apparently a hallmark of shingles.
rosiebear - it’s not weird to me at all that a group of women having a sleepover would invite your daughter, but specifically not invite your H. No boys allowed!

I should’ve written more: all family members are invited; it’s not girls only. I think most of the women are coming solo, but the host’s husband and 18 year old son will be there, for sure.

Update: It was a Sar . Gent. Ohh group where we were giving opinions on 6 potential new products (all cheese related, obv.) There was one I was super stoked about and I hope it makes it to market! There was another I personally wouldn’t buy but I think there’d be a good market for. One I liked a lot that no one else was really excited about, one that I think could work and was very convenient, one I thought was useless but others liked, and one we all thought was gross.
Adult lunchable type thing Various flavored all natural cheese spreads (sweet, savory, different cheese bases) Meal starter (chopped veggies with a shredded cheese pouch for omelets etc) Meal finisher (cheeses and spices/crunchies) Pourable cheese sauce Various shapes of shredded cheeses/varieties for maximum melting potential

I just want this over. The NP said she has never seen someone with it three times. Whatever it is the rash keeps coming back.

No I went to Ithaca College and I think I was only on the 8th floor (or 12th? Can’t remember). My brain was still maturing, lol.
You ever crack open a lacroix or diet coke in the office and think to yourself "I wonder if anyone would notice if this was a beer?"
Just me?
I took a natty light to advanced drawing one day, thinking it was a Diet Pepsi (why I had dirt pepsi I don’t know). Class began at 1:30. My wiseass instructor had a field day

I had shingles on my torso when I was 38. Not much pain. It just itched like nerve pain and I’m used to that in other areas. I don’t think shingles is that awful for everyone. I hope this clears it for you.
