ExH wanted me to go with him-I suggested he print the papers off for me to sign and I got them notarized.
Apparently he forgot the children’s SS numbers and needed to take a second day to come back and try again, so he did that yesterday.
I never got the birth certificates back from him. Do they take the birth certificates to process the passport? The passport will be mailed, is that right? Apparently the kids told me he was arguing with the clerk asking them to be mailed to him and she said they needed to go to my address And the expired ones come back as well? (I care less about those than getting the passports and BC’s obviously.)
I asked him if he has them and he won’t answer me. He has a history of withholding military papers to keep the kids from getting their ID for 7 months so I’m wondering what’s next.
The agreement says I keep all documents including the above.

I just did this for my DD. They looked at the birth certificate but didn't keep it to mail in with the application but they did keep the expired passport to mail in with the application. Now I am worried they said have kept the birth certificate too, hmm. I thought they didn't take the birth certificate too since there was an expired passport.

Also, at least in NY, you can buy certified copies of birth certificates. I bought a couple for each kid to use for passports and other things so I could leave the originals in the safe. In NY, they were $10 each and I got them from our town hall (which is also the town where they were originally issued).
Yes, they take the birth certificates and expired passports. Both of those will be returned via mail in a few weeks. the new passports will come in a separate mailing after that.

I think they took the BC and mailed it back separately from the new passport. It was my kid’s first passport, so no expired passport, but you can’t renew children’s passports. You have to apply for a new one every 5 years so I think the process is the same. Look up the valid forms of ID for kids passports. If they accept an expired one, they may not need the BC, but they may have taken it anyway.
FWIW BCs are pretty easy to replace when you are the parent. Most city or county records offices have an online process. I ordered an extra with the original so I always keep a copy in our safe and have the extra to use when needed.
Your ex is an asshole for not answering a simple question about the BCs.

When I got my kids' passports, the passports came in way before I got their BCs back. I was surprised at how long that took. So just a FYI in case you get the passports and not the BCs! They are separate mailings, but I didn't think there would be that big of a difference in timing.
Ok he responded that they kept them and that he’s holding onto the passports until after his trip. I reminded him the agreement states I hold them, and he just doesn’t respond to things like that. Which is a problem if I decide to take them somewhere for spring break.
So they didn’t send in the old passport with the new one? Didn’t you say they new ones are getting mailed to you? I’m confused as to how he has any passports.
We just got out kids’ renewed last month. If it’s their first passport they mail the birth certificate. If it’s a renewal they do not (but you need to bring it to the appointment and they mail in a photocopy)
Oh and they mail in the old passports. They are returned to you with some holes punched in that makes them invalid. We expedited and for the old passports back in a week and their new passports back in two weeks. We just had this done last month.
We brought my kids in last month because their passports expired in June. The clerk made photocopies of their birth certificates and mailed those in with the application and expired passports. The original birth certificates were handed back to me right away and the clerk told me that photocopies are all that's needed if they already had passports. If it helps any, we had the appointment on July 27th, the expired passports came in the mail August 8th and the passports came on the 10th. Processing is going quickly right now.
I submitted my kids first passport on Aug 6th. They took the birth certificates. I assume they will be mailed back separate from the passports. I do not have an email that they are on the way yet, but they did cash my check within a few days.
Friends did theirs earlier this summer and said 3 weeks. Im not in a hurry but we’re past 3 weeks.
So they didn’t send in the old passport with the new one? Didn’t you say they new ones are getting mailed to you? I’m confused as to how he has any passports.
The kids had old expired passports. He wont give me details except to say they kept the original birth certificates, that the new passports are getting mailed to him instead of me, and that he’s holding onto them when he gets them. I reminded him the agreement states I am supposed to hold onto them. He ignored that. His trip is on June. My potential trip is April.

We recently renewed our kids' passports, but they weren't expired. They did not keep their birth certificates, did keep their old passports, which got mailed back to us (after the new passports) and it took slightly over 2 months to get them.

I would wait and see what actually happens. He may just be saying that to sow discord and they might end up being sent to you. It sounds like that’s what the woman told him so he might just be fucking with you.

I would order additional birth certificates from your state. I would make preliminary plans for a fun spring break trip where you don't need a passport. This gives you the gift of not worrying about any of this nonsense. Go to Florida, go to Arizona, it will be fun. You don't need to go down this rabbit hole.

We applied for our kids Aug 6th. They kept their BC's to mail in. I just saw today on my usps preview email that I should be getting the passports in 1-3 days. So a little over 3 weeks for regular processing.
Didn’t take long for him to send me a Venmo request. Maybe I should wait for his child support this month before I send it. He gets oddly obsessed about receipts and reimbursements when I send them. Like every time I send them, once every 2-3 months or so, he asks about 5 questions.
I’ll send it when I receive the passports. That way I know I’ll get them.
About has long has it taken, recently, to get them back?
My family renewed passports in person last month. We did not expedite.
We applied in person in 8/07. DS and my passports were delivered on 8/28 and DH's on 8/30. None of us has gotten our supporting documents returned yet.
campermom, our expired passports (supporting documentation) came in the mail yesterday. They were postmark 8/30 meaning they were sent a few days after the new passports.
