jinkies I can commiserate! My parents are in good health, but my dad is 80 and still actively farming and raising beef cows. He is scheduled for a hip replacement in November and getting him to be realistic about what he is going to be physically able to do 2 weeks after is so frustrating.
My H (a physical therapist) explained that no, he probably won’t be climbing up and down from his tractor and carrying 50+ lb buckets in each arm while splashing through deep mud 2 weeks later.
For him, farming actually does keep him active, he otherwise would likely be pretty sedentary. But it’s just him and I’m honestly shocked he hasn’t sustained a serious injury this far (knock on wood).
I’ve also tried to push him to go through his barns and 3 bay garage that are packed full of crap that no one wants and he hasn’t touched in decades. He never will. Does not seem to care that my Mom and/or me and my sisters will be left to deal with all of it someday.
Sigh. I think it bothers my H more than me. But I worry for sure.

Having a teen is fun at times. DD and I are in a Venmo war over a few dollars. We keep passing it back and forth. She threatened to block me on Venmo if I sent it back. She didn’t realize this is a win for me! I sent it back and got blocked. Hope she doesn’t need money for anything soon. 😂
When we got our pool put in a few years ago, I asked for native plants as landscaping. That has worked out fantastically in terms of drought- and heat-resistance, and our yard feels alive now because there are so many pollinators on the flowering plants. A couple of weeks ago I even spotted a hummingbird. I had tried attracting them previously and never had any luck. I cleaned up my feeder and put it out, and now I've got at least two coming every day. The feeder is in my line of sight from where I work in the kitchen and I love watching them, they're such neat little things.
This is awesome! At the beginning of COVID I learned my local birds, and two years ago, we put in a small pollinator garden on the side of our house. I recently spotted a totally “new” species of bird (a yellow one!) hanging out on one of my purple coneflowers. Yes!!
jinkiesdcn I so hear you on the issues with Boomer farm life. I too am dealing with so much resistance to change and blindness to the generational burden my dad is about to hand off regarding the huge piece of property I grew up on. His illness course has stretched out longer than we initially anticipated (which is a “good” thing) but the next phase of “the stuff” will also be an exhausting, intense period (for me in particular), and I am already so tired.
meanie - it’s really no biggie like PP said. I’ve gotten two removed this year, one on my back and one in my armpit. The back took less than 15 minutes and my armpit took 20 maybe because it was in an awkward place.
I wore sunglasses for my armpit because I didn’t want to make awkward eye contact. It had my derm cracking up.
Anyways, afternoon and you’re welcome for my armpit anecdote.

We FINALLY got a demand letter from that accident my husband was in at the end of November.
It's just under our 100k limit. I am annoyed all over again. My husband has a call with the claims specialist on Wednesday to go over the affidavit he needs to sign and answer questions.

It's probably a goldfinch! They LOVE coneflowers. They are part of the reason I have a bunch of them - they are such pretty little birds!

So far so good, she went into the car and we’re at the Ulta by the new place getting some stuff … 🤞🤞 her new bed gets assembled tomorrow, new vanity Monday
And the dog is still at the kennel by the old place
....and with that my 22+ years with my company are done. My laptop and equipment are getting taken to the UPS store shortly. Thankfully we get paid for another 30 days. I was outsourced. It comes in and out of style in IT. Right now, it's in style.
Now, I need to find something else. Everyone says networking will do it...so far, nothing. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I made it to my hair appointment today (have thus far avoided getting Covid from my kids *knock on wood*) and thank goodness I did - those grays were popping.
After I went shopping to try and find outfits for upcoming family pictures. It’s truly amazing how lighting and different mirrors affect how you look. In some dressing rooms I felt like a svelte glamazon. 5 minutes later in a different store I looked 15 years older and 30 pounds heavier.
DH and DS1 are driving to PA tomorrow to look at a few colleges so it’s just me and DS2 for the weekend. No plans yet, which is how I like it.

I’m so irritated. A coworker was supposed to complete a project that our manager assigned with me today. She rolled in after 10am then left me a voicemail that she was too busy getting ready for vacation so she couldn’t help and that I could probably do it myself. Then she went to lunch with a friend.
I finished the damn project and sent it off to my manager making sure she knew I did it myself.

L is doing great this semester academically. She ended up dropping her first period and now just has a free period, which makes H and I's lives harder to get her to school, but has been working out so much better for L with her sleeping issues.
We are also still trying to figure out her health issues and she had to do another stool test + is doing 6 weeks dairy free. I am already dairy free due to my allergies, so it's easier for us as a household than many others, but for a 15 year old who loves ice cream and cheese, this is going to be a rough 6 weeks.
MIL fell last weekend. Her kneecap has a vertical fracture, which the doctor said he can’t do anything about. It’s also the knee she had partially replaced.
I guess next weekend we need to bring over some foods since her husband can’t or won’t cook and she barely cooks herself.
These are the same people spending $60k on a room for a cat their neighbor left them. DH and BIL keep telling them to look into independent places with step down care now.
The rescue dog we’re adopting Sunday came back positive for hookworm today. They started the meds and the rescue lady said it wasn’t uncommon, but should I be worried? I’m a dog newb.

I spoke with my boss today and advocated for myself. She’s on her way out, so we discussed again my role. I’m listed as receptionist, but do the work of manager (or more). Since that role doesn’t exist anywhere in our corporation, it’s been a no go. So, I asked her to push for this promotion for me. She said she would! I gave her my ready list of extra stuff I do past my job description, plus my job description.
I asked her if they didn’t approve this, I wanted to stop doing all the extras. She said she definitely understood, but did advise they’d likely revise my job description no matter what. She also asked why I wanted this, and we discussed that too. She also talked about other options for me in general too. All in all, a very positive conversation.
Later, our campus director came downstairs, and we chatted a bit. He also talked to me for a bit, more candidly. He’s retiring next week, and he’s a good guy to shoot the shit with. He said that I’d be good in career services or financial aid, if I ever wanted to move on from our clinic. So, that was nice to hear too.

Words I never thought I'd read: "I love vaginal weightlifting with my yoni egg."
Yet, I just did in my local fb group of female digital nomads. There's always been a fair amount of woo. Moon circles, womb massage, energy and breath work sessions, mixed in along with normal and valuable information, advice, recommendations. I was still unprepared for such a sentence, complete with a picture of said eggs in different sizes.
I really wish that she was an age where I could just make her do it. I'm wondering if I can promise a special dinner if she tries out to convince her.
This is my DD also, and I do this if I am really sure she will like it if she gives it a go. I look at it as you did something hard and worth celebrating.

I had a great day today. I took my kids up to my classroom to get it set up. Then I took them fishing and for ice cream. I had dinner and drinks out with two of my close friends. It was a perfect end-of-summer day.

Super normal. Be prepared to need a few rounds of meds. Our rescue seemed to have a few worms for a few months, but she's good now! Exacerbated by her love of eating poop.

Today is the day my downstairs remodel project gets done! It's in the final stages and the finishing touches are being completed. I'm so, SO excited to have this chapter closed. We still have one more house hurdle but hopefully it won't be extensive or expensive.
School starts tomorrow - DD in 7th, DS in 5th. This whole month is expected to be nuts for us schedule-wise. Not sure how we're going to do it all, but I look forward to a relaxing October.

Normal. They can be tough to get rid of so make sure you're cleaning up the poop quickly and you have her retested by your vet post treatment as sometimes it can take more than one round of meds.
