We recently bought a new house and we are going to be buying a new washer and dryer. My only real requirement is that the washer be a top loader. If you have a set you love, what is it?
We have a Whirlpool washer that I love. It gets our laundry super clean, we really put it to the test when we had some water in our basement and used towels to mop up the floor. The middle agitator comes out and you can fit large loads and bulky items. The best part is the spin cycle, it gets a tooooon of water out and laundry feels almost dry when it's done.
We didn't get the matching dryer because it doesn't seem like the technology has really changed enough to justify the price tag. We have a Maytag dryer, it's big and works well but isn't remarkably better than any other dryers.
My current one is a Maytag. It's fine although the wash cycle takes forever. I chose it over the Whirlpool-- basically identical-- because it had a longer warranty.
Speed Queen. I prefer an agitator-less top loader, but I'm tired of replacing them every 5-7 years. This should outlive me. I have the dryer, too. Typically you can get them about $150-200 off MSRP. My one gripe is that I can get a lot more bedding and towels into an agitator-less top loader.
Now, not gonna lie - we’ve had to have service calls on both machines, but each time was kind of a weird freak thing that shouldn’t have happened and was 100% covered by warranty. We’ve been very happy with both machines.

I second this washer. I liked it so much I bought it again for my new place when I had to leave mine in the old house. I had the matching dryer in the old house and it wasn’t great, the laundry was routinely not dry enough. I bought a very basic dryer for this house (can’t think of what right now) and it gets everything dry perfectly the first time.

Mine is a front loader because I needed a stackable set, but I bought an Electrolux set two years ago and absolutely love them so much! They clean really well and aren’t loud (the laundry room is right next to the family room in my house, so that matters).
All I can say is NOT A SAMSUNG. Worst purchase ever, and I’m very lucky that DH is handy and can keep replacing the same pieces that break every 18 months or so. He orders parts in bulk.
My Whirlpool washer is the best, but it’s literally 20 years old. Little things have broken that DH can fix, but it runs so very well.
