Welcoming migrants in Northern Michigan

This is the most uplifting thing I’ve read in a while. May it inspire more of the same kind of events.

I volunteer with and sit on the board for a very small grassroots refugee organization in Illinois and this is the kind of thing we support. We know and love all of the families we help and together we have created a real community. I wish everyone could see just how much love there is with welcoming people to your area.

Look on FB and see if you can find refugee groups in your community. There are several in the Chicago area in addition to ours that are grassroots, which really gives people the opportunity to help in ways that are meaningful but also simple. For instance, people can easily donate air conditioner window units or furniture to people who live in their community and know it’s not just going in a warehouse.
