Help settle an insane disagreement: Ground vs. Stair

My initial feeling was that stairs are not ground but now I don’t know!

livinitup Clarity Question: Picture a 4th floor outdoor walk up. You’re on the first level. Only the first step is “attached” to the ground. You can dangle your hand off of the railing without touching anything solid.

Follow Up Question: NEVER put your purse on the floor indoors! I’m not sure if basements “count”, it’s a superstition. But if you have access to a tabletop or counter indoors, you would use that.

Since the superstition is that your money can run away if it's on the ground, then yes, stairs are the ground, since it's something that is typically walked on.
