Weekend randoms with TW

It’s a beautiful fall-feeling weekend by me. We are at Six Flags today. My kids are huge coaster fans. I get pretty nauseous but pop some meclizine and I can tolerate most rides. I do have to close my eyes! The kids are way braver than me.

I partially offered today because a trip to Six Flags always ends with Culver’s, and I wanted Culver’s!

This is so random… but I am so curious I have to ask.

We have an older couple in our neighborhood, probably mid sixties/early seventies, and they walk our road together frequently, but like 10 yards apart from each other. I have seen this a few other times with older folks and the man is always the one in front.

What is the point on going on a walk together, but actually kind of separate? I am sitting waiting to pick up DD at a friend’s house and just witnessed the same thing. Like, do they not like each other possibly, but also want to make sure each person is safe??

Morning me and afternoon me are two very different people, but I am done with the bulk of my chores. I cleaned our master bath, vacuumed the upstairs. Cleaned out some of the garage and our dryer vent. Sprayed for bugs.

Made two pans of chicken enchiladas for freezer meals and just pulled the few fall decorations I have out.

But I am tired!

Why does my body hate sleep as I get older? I got in bed at midnight and was tired but my brain decided to be anxious about random work stuff. Then I woke up to pee. Now I remember that I can't deal with staying up late and I won't go to another concert for a year or 5. And I didn't even drink! Drinking also messes up my sleep

Finally done my weekend shifts at my 2nd job.

DS1 is home from school, very sick. I'm not sure what to do about tomorrow. H has his Mondays are his long day. And he has his 1st 3hr long class (they started on Tuesday 8/27 so no Monday classes and last week was labor day.

I feel terrible he got so sick so soon after started his college classes

But why is almost every sweatshirt cropped? It’s winter time. I don’t want my belly out. And I hate having to layer stuff under a crew neck sweatshirt. I like just being able to throw on one piece.

I’m on the lookout for a good sweatshirt, too. I want lightweight and not cropped. Seems simple yet no? It’s either thick fleece or half a sweatshirt. I can’t wait for this cropped trend to die.

Athleta used to be great for this but they’ve discontinued everything I like there and the new designs are trash. Let me know if you find a good option.

Don't laugh. Walmart. I own 3. Lightweight. Hi-Lo design-it's fine. Long in the front. Definitely not cropped! I wear them outside the house for a quick run to the supermarket w/leggings or sweat pants. and less than $15. I'd say they run a tad large. TTS if you want it roomier. Size down for a slimmer fit.

I will. he's been sleeping since i got home.

I'm hoping he sleeps enough to function tomorrow. It's a designing posters for a cause class. it fills a curriculum requirement for art (Liberal arts achool) haha.

he also has Ethics and Microeconomics.

I use Walmart too. Love their zip ups.

I tried on a really cute and comfy sweatshirt at target the other day but it was cropped so I didn’t get it. I cannot stand high waisted pants, and I don’t want to show skin when I bend over!

I've been really anxious all weekend and there have been a lot of triggers. I'm wondering if I need to go up on my anxiety meds a bit more, or to just see if things calm down and I feel better.

Anyone remember the cat I asked about taking in whose former owner has 18 outdoor cats and thought he had been eaten by a coyote? Well, he now lives in our house, has been vaccinated, and is chipped. He seems to love it here, but he still likes to go outside for part of every day.

Today he thanked us for taking him in by bringing us a dead lizard and putting it on the mat by our back door. Maybe because we were not suitably thankful, right after dinner, he brought a live mouse in our house and let it go. You know, so we could all catch it together. He eventually caught it again (it had run under the couch) and DH managed to take it away from him and put it outside. All three cats now think the couch randomly pops out mice and have been stalking it.

I’m traumatized and may need to drink. And everyone has been warned to LOOK CAREFULLY AT THE CAT before letting him in from now on.

Yeah in this case the post is not really more triggering than the title anyway, since it's just the word and not discussing it actually happening! I know it was well intended but maybe next time not necessary on the title.

Makes me so happy to see how much women’s sports has changed since I was younger. Professional soccer wasn’t an option. Now not only can you be a professional, but you can be a mom and still be a professional.

mommyatty, omg, but also, I’m dying laughing. Cats are the worst, haha.

When I was a kid, our cat chased a bird in the house. It was alive and well, the cat never got it, just chased it inside. My mom was then chasing the bird, trying to shoo it out, my sister and I were laughing hysterically, and the cat just kept jumping from floor to table to ….air I guess, trying to catch this dumb bird. It was a wild 20 minutes, haha.

Our Alexa said the temp was 101 when I checked mid-afternoon. DH and the boys just wanted to watch football all day and that sounded unbearable in the heat to me, so I left and went shopping solely for the AC for a couple hours 😂 At Target I accidentally got a wonky cart that was really loud when it rolled, and every time I turned a corner there was a person with a sleeping baby, so obviously everyone had the same idea for nap time. I’m sure they were annoyed with my cart.

I’m looking for some specific furniture items and I was checking out fb marketplace which led to estate sales. There are a few you can bid online and pick up in person. I got obsessed with one for a Coronado beach cottage. The contents were super random for an estate sale and I spent way too much time wondering about the people who lived there and creating scenarios for their lives. I don’t think it was a situation where they passed away, maybe just rich people who want to sell a family beach house from far away. I won a few things (nothing I actually was looking for) so I need to go pick them up tomorrow.

SusanBAnthony, sofamonkey, - lack of being able to sleep was one of the BIG reasons I requested to get on HRT. There may be other options but it is a big symptom of peri and if you have any others, it's worth talking to your GP about it.

My H walks faster than me and I often ask him if he's going for a walk with me or at the same time as me and he'll slow down. But sometimes I know he wants to get his heart rate up so I let him go his speed.

marie my ILs do this; FIL is very tall and just has a longer natural stride than MIL, who also tends to meander. They start off together and meet up at points but I'm sure it looks like they aren't really together. At all other times, they are pretty much never without each other. The walks might be the only personal space they get except the bathroom.

I've definitely been 3 strides behind so frequently I've sardonically referred to myself as a proper subservient woman. It has nothing to do with heart rate, and I get irritated. But, also, when he's next to me he will not maintain a straight line, even when there are tiles or other markings to help you visually. Quit moving into my lane! So sometimes I prefer him ahead.

David Sedaris had a piece on this, probably more than one, about his husband Hugh. I'm thinking specifically of when they were in Australia. It was so relateable!

This jarred a funny fairly recent memory. I’m in Texas. Where you can generally bet most of the people you see are suuuuper conservative. I was coming into the grocery store and there was an old man with a MAGA hat and a little old lady in her church clothes behind him. I stepped aside so she wouldn’t be separated from him, and she gave him a dirty look and said “Oh, I am definitely not with THAT... I’m a cat lady.” Then she gave me the sauciest grin. I loved her, lol.
