Thanks for the resources! DD is in pre-algebra this year (was in remedial/'special help' math last year). We have the Everything You Need math book but DD wanted a 'math games' app so all these things are so helpful.
6th graders have the option of 6th grade math or testing into accelerated math, so as far as the question of if she's in the appropriate class, she's in the lowest class possible.
At least I know we're not the only ones struggling without having a textbook. Conversation with other parents and teachers we know.. the kids had physical textbooks last year, something about curriculum updates that the publisher has made but the district hasn't adopted yet that I don't understand, and the issue should be solved "in the next couple of years."
I've already reached out to her teacher to see what we can do. Her 504 does call for extra books at home as needed, study guides and sheets as needed, etc. Hopefully they have an older version laying around.
ETA: My message caught the teacher during her prep period.. we have one of last year's books heading home today. Hooray!
k3am, if they can't get you a book, maybe you could print sections as needed out of the PDF? Thinking more about it, you probably wouldn't want to print the whole thing since I feel like my kids have never gotten through a whole textbook, and never in order. The teacher should be able to give you an outline of the sections you'll need for the next few months at least.
I'm glad you have a book on the way and I hope it helps you both.
I think you may be in CA? CA secondary math curriculum famously imploded a year or two ago, so I imagine the dust is still settling. I would still reach out about homework help/tutoring, it's likely not as common in public schools these days (ours was entirely funded with federal covid money that no longer exists), but I bet there's something.
Get the photomath app. You take pictures of the problems and it works it out for you.
My SS also doesn’t have a math book and struggles. That app got us through geometry.
This is amazing. She had one problem wrong on a quiz and I could swear it was right and couldn’t figure out where she went wrong. App says she was right too. I’m not crazy! (At least not because of this!) 🤭

Our schools still have physical textbooks for all subjects but also make the texts available online. For social studies they're also given an extra copy of the textbook to keep at home because it's so heavy.
