Is anyone watching with their kids? I normally do not watch debates. DS just started high school, and I feel like he's old enough that we can have interesting discussions. But I don't want to have discussions about why Trump is so immature that he won't say Kamala correctly.
That could actually be a great way to discuss racism and microaggressions, though - and help them see in action why it's important for people to be better.
My prediction is that Kamala is going to make some small, insignificant gaffe and that will be all the media talks about for two weeks.
This is exactly what's going to happen. In an effort to seem "unbiased", they'll attempt to highlight her missteps or uncomfortable moment and give it as much attention as they give the entirety of Trump's ridiculous performance.
Oh, the things we're going to be talk about in regards to the past 10 years of politics in 50 years.

I saw a meme along the lines of this awhile back. It was basically “we are currently living through the hardest part of some kids AP history exam in the year xxxx” part of me was amused by it because it’s true, the other part of me is just so so over living through these major historical events (overall, not just the last 10 years of politics) that I want to cry.

This will be on at dinner time on the west coast, so I think it will be on while we are eating. My kids are 15 and 17 and know all about Trump. So yes, we will watch and discuss.
I am debating watching with captions and hitting mute when he talks. If I do this, I will report back in this thread.
This is an excellent idea tbh! I will enthusiastically watch her chew him up and spit him out, but now I’m going to do it with closed captioning and mute on!

Yes, this is my thought (as a childfree cat lady).
Sure, it's awful to have to explain racisim and microagressions to your child, but you kind of have to, and what better way to show how pervasive it is than to have it on full display in a presidential debate?

I’m glad you guys said this. I thought about saying it as well but as a childfree person I wasn’t sure it was my place to tell someone the conversations to have with their child. I agree wholeheartedly though. It’s sad that it’s where we are as a country but it can definitely be a teachable moment.
My DD is about turn 7 and we’ll likely let her watch a little. She hears us talk about it and we’ve explained tons of things to her, as kid friendly as possible. She’s no stranger to tough topics - she’s attended my Moms Demand actions with me before. I don’t give her any gory details because she’s still my little and I don’t want to scare her. But she knows enough.
Nah. I have no interest in watching the dumbass do his dumbass thing. Or to listen to her continue to defend the US's support of Israel with zero ability to critique any of their fuckery or inability to enact anything that may help Palestinian civilians who are sitting ducks living a death sentence.
Can't even make a statement about the US citizen who was shot by a sniper in the West Bank who was peacefully protesting the illegal settlements in even a fraction of the way she did about the death of a hostage ( whose cause of death has not been determined to for sure be by Hamas) days before.
It seems like its mostly a way for them to make fun of each other and pat themselves on the back for their clever digs like presidential debates seem to have turned into and an opportunity for memes.
Trump supporters will vote for him.
Democrats or those who despise Trump and lean more democrats will vote for her.
Those who don't want to vote for either of them will stay home or vote 3rd party.

I don’t recall where I saw it, but just today, I read that 12-15% of voters in swing states still say they are undecided. I cannot wrap my brain around how someone can be undecided, but apparently there are still people who don’t know what they’re going to do.
I’m not sure that a debate will really help, but sometimes I forget just how low information some voters are.

This exactly.
TFG: vomits racist garbage, proposes unconstitutional executive orders and blatant human rights violations
Her: stumbles on 2 sentences
Press: I mean, her performance was shaky, is she really ready to be on the public stage, in such an important role? Is she really qualified? Maybe she's good, she's just not quite ready for this role yet.

I was going to mute the parts where he talks, but my daughter's government homework is to watch it tonight, so I guess I have to listen to him

Yes, and those 12-15% will end up deciding the election! (Since otherwise it's so close.)
And frankly, we saw the last debate set off a pretty massive change in the race (Biden eventually dropping out), so we have recent evidence that debates can matter.
I'm going to watch a little at least. I don't know how long I will make it.

I get that you are frustrated, but most people don’t follow politics as much as closely as most of us do. As shocking as it is, there are undecided voters out there and they will decide this election. So yes, this debate is important!!!
Seeing as Biden dropped out after the last debate, they obviously matter.
I just hate all of this. It is all just a show. Kamala has got to be so nervous. Trump is going to try very hard like last debate to remain restrained. Or he comes out swinging? who the F knows. And each side will claim victory.

Thankfully I have a church council meeting (I'm secretary so I HAVE to be there) but the sound of lil cheeto's voice makes me lurch for the remote so I can mute the tv.
I’m on the east coast and have to get up early for a 9/11 memorial event tomorrow morning, so I won’t be staying up for it. I’d rather go into tomorrow morning with a clear head and a grateful attitude. I’ll probably spend most of the day at work after the memorial event reading recaps.
I know we don't do twitter posts here, but I thought this might qualify as an exception seeing as it's not about information, just (the hopefuly future first gentleman) conveying support.
