I applied. Since I'm on "redeployment" we are supposed to get "special consideration" for internal jobs. It costs more to hire someone. I do know a couple people that got internal jobs already, so I wouldn't be the only one.
If you apply and get the job, will your service time be bridged? In other words, if they decide a year from now to layoff again, do you get severance as though you are a 1yr employee or a (whatever your previous service was +1) year employee?
I recently went through a similar situation except my internal role wasn’t posted or shared, so I didn’t have to apply.
I did have an external offer I was weighing but everyone here told me there was no benefit from taking the other job. So I took the internal job and have been here for a month.
I also was going to lose my severance if I received an internal offer. I’m not in a niche job field but with my experience and salary/benefits, I wasn’t finding anything and so the continuity of my company was a huge benefit.

I'm still employed. If I leave on my last day with no offer and they offer me the job in a month I don't have to take it. I would have already gotten the severance. If I do take it, I have to pay back all of the severance except for X weeks in between my last day employed and my first day re-employed.
If I join the company again in a year, they do bridge service.
