I actually watched the other night (with my emotional support chocolate chip cookie dough) and I've felt super overwhelmed since then. Maybe because I haven't listened to him talk that much in....years?
I am just anxious for the election to be done and know the ending. I hate the limbo stage.

I am feeling energized but also cautious.
We cannot assume we have got this. We need to do all the things and it sounds like that you, as a precinct leader, are really a role model for others. That’s amazing!
Other good things: polls are useless. Young folks who largely skew Democrat don’t answer the phones. Hell, I’m 49 and I won’t do it.
Lots of New Democrats have registered in swing states.
He is very clearly bat shit crazy and not good at hiding it. The people who are definitively voting for him like the shit he says. And a lot who will vote for him reluctantly are doing so because they’re brainwashed into thinking that’s the best or only choice. They are vastly in the minority. But they are scary.
What we have to hope for is that enough new voters in the swing state are aware of what is at stake and that they they get out and vote.
I’m a dedicated voter. I vote in local elections. I vote in state elections. I vote in national elections. I want my voice to be heard. But i haven’t been this excited to vote for someone since 2008 and I don’t think I’m alone.

My only hope is that polls suck, because too many polls suggest he can/will win. I am preparing for the worst, including mentally realizing the possibilities.
Even if he loses, he and the GOP will spend every cent suggesting the election was rigged. We are in for a rough 5 years when I can only hope and pray (as an agnostic) that his followers are better in 5 years.

My feeling is that Harris is going to win and we are going to have a progressive president who can get good things done for our country and allies. It’s elating after feeling doomed.
I’m also feeling more horrified than ever that ordinary Americans are going to vote for this guy and he can still win.
And that I have to pace myself for the next 8 weeks. It’s going to be a long campaign end. And messy battle to the inauguration. I can’t get this worked up and do so many deep dives into all the aspects of the race (like Kamala’s debate prep & analysis of her style/execution - she’s amazing).
I'm still worried. I think voter turnout will be high, I think Harris and Walz will win the majority of votes...I'm worried about the electoral college results and I'm worried about Trump and general MAGA shenanigans. Seriously I get nauseous and that sinking feeling in my stomach when I think about it. I don't expect anyone to change their core beliefs, that's a lot to ask for, but after that debate performance I had hoped more people would be like "what on earth was that? I can't vote for him". I don't need anyone to love Harris...just disavow the orange man and I don't see that happening as much as I thought it would. I'm just worried we will have another January 6th.
I am cautiously optimistic. I do think she will win but only if we vote. Like mentioned unthread I haven’t felt this excited for a candidate since Obama in 2008. I think she is energizing young people and people who haven’t voted in the past.
I have zero doubt Harris will win the popular vote, I am also confident though slightly less so that she will win the electoral college. I am almost certain that Trump will try and overturn the election, I do think they are expecting it this time so probably preparing for it better, however the Supreme Court worries me.
I’m excited about a candidate for the first time since Obama. I’m glad we have a choice who isn’t an old white guy, and I was definitely growing concerned about Biden’s ability to a) win the election and b) make it another 4 years if he did.
Kamala is brilliant, energetic, and unifying. And Tim Walz is great. I think they have a very real shot of winning this election. But it won’t be easy, and even if they do the MAGATs won’t go away.
Is there any way to further debunk this stupid eating pets nonsense? I’m seeing MAGA nonbelievers in swing states saying it’s absolutely true because there are police reports and people saying they saw it. Are police reports able to be made public or could the police make a statement if they wanted to? Of course I don’t believe the random people claiming they saw it since in this day and age someone would whip out a phone and have photo or video proof if it actually happened.

The only existing police report accusing anyone of eating a pet was a white woman and American citizen accused a few years ago in Ohio (not Springfield). She wasn't Haitian or an immigrant. She was just a Cleveland Browns fan.

I think there's been a shift in the main stream media where they're starting to highlight the direct impact that Trump's words have. Such as, there's an article in WaPo today that directly draws the line that because of what Trump said in the debate about Springfield led to the City having to evacuate several gov buildings and an elementary school because of bomb threats.
Where as before it's always been implied with no real accountability laid at his feet.
So, I'm hopeful that this starts shaking up the people that previously felt more safe under his administration.
Call me crazy or naive, but I think it’s going to be a decisive victory for Harris/Walz. I’m using one of my 4/yr remote weeks to work from home that week because it’s the first time in I don’t know how long that I think there might be a favorable outcome on election night, even if it’s late. In 2020, we knew it wouldn’t be called that night because of mail-in votes. In 2016, I went to bed when things started going south because it was too depressing. 2012 was kind of a duh. So. Anyway. I’m pumped.
This does NOT mean that I’m getting complacent. I’m signed up to drive democratic voters to the polls on Election Day and will block walk.

Agreed.
Another thing I've noticed is that it seems like more media is less willing to sort of "translate" his incoherent word salad into something comprehensible because maybe that's what he actually meant.
I am scared out of my mind that marmalade mugabe might regain power. The closer we get the more real that threat is.
Having said that, I really, really want to lean into hope and throw what I can at this.
In my most optimistic moments, I’m seriously considering getting a hotel room in downtown Oakland for Nov. 5th so we can be there watching returns and celebrating.

I feel a little better than I did prior to the Biden debate. I’ve had a lot of ups and downs since then, but this is pretty close to my baseline. This election all comes down to the swing states and all I have to go on is unreliable polls, anecdotes and demographics. I spoke to my BFF after the debate and she was not feeling optimistic. It’s baffling to us how anyone can watch that debate and think he is a viable candidate, yet no matter what awful things he says or does, he still manages to get millions of votes and people claim he’s the greatest.
I’m more hopeful that demographics are on our side. I’m confident that Harris will win the popular vote by a landslide. He lost the electoral college in 2020. There are less Boomer voters and more GenZ voters which statistically favors Democrats. I think we will have significantly more women turn out to vote than men. As much as we joke about crowd size, I think it’s a huge insecurity of his and the fact that she is packing stadiums (and overflow) and his smaller venues have empty seats, is a sign he has lost cult followers in swing states. There are a lot of specific turning points where lost voters since 2020. People are tired of him. I believe all of the donations and grass roots efforts since the Harris- Walz announcements are making a big impact for Dems, down ballot too.
There’s been a lot of voter suppression efforts but we are aware of it and there are orgs fighting against it. I’m worried about other election shenanigans and our corrupt Supreme Court so we really need Harris to win by an electoral landslide, which I think is possible. I’m really hopeful we’ll have some surprise blue states but it’s hard to be that optimistic after 2016.

I allow myself to really feel like she is going to win. Then I get teary eyed about what a big fucking deal that is. Then I get scared and don’t allow myself to feel that relief yet.

To clarify, from last winter to prior to the Biden debate I predicted Biden would win based on demographics alone and I think Harris has a better chance. It’s hard to be optimistic though.
To calm my anxiety I like to list the ways that Cheeto has lost voters since November 2020:
January 6 and all the lies surrounding it E. Jean Carrol verdict 34 felonies Roe v Wade The biased Supreme Court and other decisions Most recent Epstein document release Fake ear injury (could be +/-) Picking JD Vance as a running mate His age (everything he criticized Biden for) Photo stunt at Arlington Harris Debate Project 2025 Denial / A Concept of a Plan
I’m sure I’m forgetting some right now. Feel free to add yours.
This has to be fake right. I saw an informal - we asked undecided readers if the debated changed their mind.
One of the readers said they we leaning Harris but after the debate they are firmly Trump because she wasn’t clear enough on her policies and didn’t really answer the questions.
I’m optimistic. The energy from the Harris/Walz team is great. The staff are pulling out some amazing ads and the timing is impeccable. Plus Taylor Swifts endorsement?!? Yes!
However, seeing more crappy pro-Trump and against Harris stuff on my social media. Not surprising from the people sharing but I hadn’t seen much until the debate.
I think Harris will win the popular vote and I’m cautiously optimistic about the electrical college. Will Trump go quietly if he loses? Hell no. Will there be an uprising, probably definitely. Maybe he will flee to Venezuela or Hungary? If he suddenly has a serious and fatal medical issue it’s going to be blamed on democrats… so here’s to hoping something works out? I don’t think the maga cult will have the strength to continue post Trump.

My greatest hope is if he tries to flee to one of those countries, they are just like “ope sorry, borders closed” and send him back here where he spends the rest of his pathetic existence in prison.

I'm confident & happy with Harris.
Now I can turn my attention to worrying about the Senate & house races.... I'd really hate for her to win & then be stuck with a do-nothing congress in which she can't get anything done and/or they start 40 new investigations into nonsense.

I'm hopeful about the down ballot races simply because I can't find anything about the RNC transferring money to them. The DNC/Harris are giving close to $25M to the down ballots.
As a reminder, Trump struck a deal that all the money raised would go to him first, and anything left would go to his legal fees. They've stunted regular fundraising for anyone else.

Oh, the irony of the man who is so voraciously against immigrants wants to become one himself.

He's white.* You know those immigrants are the good kind.
