I was in a very minor, though still terrifying, bicycle accident this past weekend and have road rash on one toe. I had no idea that road rash is so painful and I still can't wear regular shoes. I feel like a baby complaining about a toe because the accident could have been so much worse. Anyway, here I am in the office wearing a very professional outfit and my Birks. Here's hoping that no one notices my feet today.

My niece attends college in Springfield, Ohio where the Haitian migrants are "allegedly eating pets". Her school has had to shut down due to threats. All classes have had to go virtual and athletics have been canceled and she is on a fall sport. This is outrageous! She is coming home for the week.
My friends and I met at a bar last night to write postcards encouraging people in swing states to vote. I highly recommend it if you have a bit of free time and a few dollars for stamps.

Yikes buckeyegirl that is awful for that community. An 11 yr old girl was arrested here for threats over the weekend and 100s of students stayed home yesterday and that false reports of things that were not happening yesterday just compounded it all. Our schools are now reporting all students who shared false info to the police as well as implementing severe school punishments. DD was clearly so anxious last night as she kept asking questions. She was facetiming a friend and friend kept talking about it all and I told DD FaceTime and tablet time over for the day. Luckily she picked up a book and calmed down. I'm taking her on a walk after school and setting out an arts and craft activity to hopefully distract her.
I watched this house flipping show this morning. The flippers were a brother/sister, and they talked a lot about how much money they saved by getting their family and friends to help them for free.
I don't even know these people and I'm so angry about it LOL. It's one thing to ask your dad for help replacing a toilet in your own house. It's another to have him spend weeks completely replumbing the falling down shack you bought, while your mom redoes all the gardens, and your cousins and friends spend days emptying out all the trash. And then you keep all the profit for yourself. They come off as entitled assholes. And also the woman licked the crusty abandoned fishtank they found buried in the hoarder house they bought, because her brother dared her. That is going to haunt me.

jinkies agreed. I have had to remind DH of this. SIL I hate/BIL/Niece own an Airbnb and ask DH to help them with projects and repairs. I'm like it's one thing to help them at their house to save them money, but this is a business of theirs and they can do it themselves or hire it out. Eta They don't even buy him lunch/dinner while he has done work for them. We never ask them for help.

I don't think this is unique to Springfield. There have been several schools in my area(NC) on lockdowns, closures, threats etc since the last school shooting. I have a friend in WV who has said the same in her community. Just yesterday was a pipe bomb threat at a middle school (school evacuated) and a specific threat against a student at a high school (extra security and police presence).
I have a before work meeting (I'm hourly) and flu/covid shots after work. I love that every public school I've worked for brings the pharmacist and vaccines to us. It's so convenient!

I heard a new term on the radio this morning - fauxductivity. It's basically meant to describe what you are doing at work, when you are doing everything but work, and I feel called out.

My dd plays volleyball and they're required to stay for all three games. Parents sign up to feed the team on game nights and it's awesome. DD comes home fed and it's one less thing to worry about. Tonight is my night to feed the team and dd requested CFA wraps. They were a team fav last year and no one has done them this year. So I'm doing wraps, chips, a little bag with homemade choc chip cookies and gatorade for the team. A parent just messaged me saying she wasn't sure if her daughter would like the wrap and could I please get her nuggets and fries instead. My eyes nearly rolled out of my head. I'll do it but I think that's ridiculous. They're old enough to eat what's provided or bring your own. (This is not an allergy situation.)
Big Kid is 12 years old with combined type ADHD. This transition back to school has been ROUGH. More meltdowns in the last week than the previous year, I swear. Send help. And patience.
sunshineandpinot I am not sure that I'd honor that. I'd just say you are getting trays of wraps and she will need to pack her own dinner if she doesnt think she'll eat a wrap.
OMG sunshineandpinot . That parent is very presumptuous. If my child won't eat what's being prepared I will provide something else because that's my job.
(hugs) mala. The transition back to school is rough for our neurodivergent kids. DS(8) is finally doing okay at the beginning of his fourth week.
I feel so bad for H, he had a cross-country flight that was delayed twice because their plane needed a test flight. Delta ended up flying another plane up from Atlanta, and his 8PM flight didn't leave until 1:30 AM.
He landed at 7:30 AM our time and has an early afternoon client visit, he called me when he landed and he was so overtired he almost sounded drunk.
ETA: He made it to the VRBO and he thinks it's haunted 😂 He heard someone calling his name and the other guy staying there is creeped out.
Oh and this painting is giving off some serious demon vibes 🤣

I'm glad your accident wasn't worse. Road rash can be terribly painful. If you can cover it with Tegaderm, that will help healing. You can leave it on while you shower and leave it for several days.
jinkies I always thought that the relatives/friends got paid for being on the show with the homeowners and that it really wasn't free labor. I also heard that they may film for a few hours and make it look like they were there for a couple of days with outfit changes. Just like the star of the show is doing ALL these projects. They film the star doing little things here and there, using a nail gun, painting the whatever, installing the this&that, but suddenly it's DONE! You know they have a crew really doing the work. Several of these shows film in my major city, and you see some things like this in the press occasionally.

We are off to NY tonight! L is really excited, which is cute, and I'm so exited to be back in such a fun city and also see one of my best friends. In the meantime I have a toooon of emails to send for work today, plus I still need to pack, so the nervous energy is strong at the moment.
Oh also, we took the risk of not paying for seats and have middle-aisle-aisle. I'm hoping the person on the aisle next to our middle might want to swap to the other aisle seat mostly because I'm going to feel bad for them with a toddler next to them otherwise, but obviously if for whatever reason they're happy then that's fine too!
sunshineandpinot I am just envisioning a symphony of whiney complaints over not getting nuggets from the rest of the team - nope! I would just tell the parent that the order is already placed.
Seems pretty out of touch to even ask for a special meal that's not related to an allergy issue.
There was a threat against a nearby high school last week where the SWAT team came out, and my freshman DD told me this weekend that she’s scared at school. I cried. This is nothing I can problem solve or fix. Of course, we talked about her classrooms having closed/locked doors and no windows, but she countered with being in a relatively empty hallway and seeing a lone boy and being afraid. I hate this so much for this generation.

My nephew has ARFID and would not eat what is provided. It's a big stressor about going to stuff where food is served. I think it's up to the parent to provide an alternative so it was not really appropriate to ask, but I also think it should be normalized that sometimes kids are going to have different foods - allergies aren't the only legitimate reason why some kids can't eat what is provided, and he shouldn't be singled out in a negative way because of it. It's better for a kid to be jealous of his nuggets than for him to have to watch everyone else eat while he goes hungry, you know?
Again I do not think this is OPs problem, just wanted to raise awareness that it's not always just kids or parents being high maintenance - sometimes it's mental health.
You'd think that since I'm WFH today I would have had plenty of time this morning to get ready for the day and get to DS's med check appt, but nope. It was a scramble to get out the door, we were borderline late getting to the appt, and then we were done in time to make car line drop off at school, but I somehow still didn't have enough time to get myself all the way together before a Teams meeting.
I can't wait until this meeting is over so I can change into soft pants and eat something.

Another parent of a kid who is still a little picky, but also in an activity where meals are provided (marching band, on away game Fridays they stay after for rehearsal, then eat, then get on the bus). He knows he can ask me to pack some food for him to take if he doesn't want to eat what's provided, but he would never ask for an individualized meal. And so far, he's taken a chance and figured he'd eat whatever it is they provide. Chic Fil A is the group favorite by far though. Ds usually gets an original chicken sandwich (actually 3), but if you like their chicken, chances are you will like whatever form it comes in. He'd totally eat a wrap if one was offered.

Definitely a good point, I assumed the ask was just the kid having a preference of taste.
H and I have been prioritizing our relationship and spending more purposeful time together and it's been amazing. We've been having a rough go of it the past few months and have been working with a therapist and this was first suggested by her but now it's coming so much easier for us. Honestly our relationship is the best it's been in years and in hindsight I can see how bad it was getting. We've been taking walks together and it's not only time together but both of us have lost weight and are focusing on being healthy so it's really a win/win situation. We have a number of trails in our area so it's been cool to explore new locations.
I have a project that I'm dreading working on and if I would just get my ass in gear it would be over pretty quickly so I just need to motivate myself but here I am...
I hosted my sister's bachelorette party this past weekend at the beach. It was so much fun - the perfect mix of relaxation and activity.
My sister is in academia and is very rational but is into tarot and astrology, which I always thought was a funny paradox. So I hired a tarot reader to come to the house to give all of us private readings one night. Many of us in the group, me included, were skeptics and had never had a reading before. I can definitely see why people are into it now - I was blown away by the accuracy of some of the readings. Now I sort of want to have another reading done. Who am I?!?

Threats to schools aren't unique to Springfield (unfortunately).
The threats currently happening in Springfield ARE unique and are directly prompted by the terribly racist and false story created by JD and perpetuated by Trump. Treating them as equivalent is just wrong, incorrect and willfully ignorant.
Avoided an accident yesterday while out grabbing lunch. A car pulled out from a parking lot right in front of me, and I slammed on my breaks and missed her by inches. She proceeded to hit the suv in the lane next to me, spinning him out. He took out two cars traveling the opposite direction. And the bitch who caused it drove off. Thankfully there were only minor injuries. A witness showed up at one point and told me and one other guy that he saw the smashed car drive down a specific street. So I told the police, and they ended up finding her. Of course today is an in-office day and I had to commute. It was a little unnerving.
I'm glad I decorated my office last week because it made me happy to see the space this morning.
I have a before work meeting (I'm hourly) and flu/covid shots after work. I love that every public school I've worked for brings the pharmacist and vaccines to us. It's so convenient!
We had our work health clinic today too! They didn't have the covid shot yet, but I got my flu shot. And our health screening, where my slightly high cholesterol was chastised bc I had pizza last night for dinner :/
I am so tired today! It's been a busy/early morning several days in a row anyway, and today my dog started making this sad whining noise around 4:40. It wasn't super loud but loud enough that it woke me up (I think my H slept through it, I didn't ask). I didn't want to reward him for his whining so I just ignored him, and he did eventually stop, but it meant I was mostly awake for 1.5 hours before I needed to get up. And I normally don't get up until closer to 7:30-8, so that was way too early!
He has been struggling, I think, because I was OOT two weekends in a row, plus I was in the office last Wednesday. So for a dog who normally has me home at least 5.5 out of 7 days, I've only been home 2 days out of the last 9. My H has been home more but he's MY dog and it's not the same without me. He was so high energy last night, even with a long walk after work.
