I post this as I'm going to get my flu/covid shots at lunch time. It's funny that now it's normal to just plan a whole weekend to being sick from the covid shot. My husband has planned for me to be down with ickness without me even telling him.

I still had a bit of trouble finding a place for covid shots for my kid. I reeeeaaally wish our doctor's office did them, but they don't.

I got sick as a dog for the whole weekend of the first four Moderna shots I got. I got Pfizer last time and felt bad but not nearly as knocked out as I had before. Maybe try switching brands if you can?

Switching brands might be hard. I got Pfizer for my original series and had zero side effects. My boosters have all been Moderna and have knocked me on my ass. I however have not been able to find anyone in my area that offers the Pfizer booster for any of the last 3? Boosters I’ve gotten.

It doesn't matter. I've had both pfizer and moderna and they both take me out.
One of those random pandemic silver linings is that the mom's whisper network spread the word of a local independent pharmacy that was doing covid testing and then shots incredibly efficiently, and we've been going to them ever since for our boosters and flu shots. It's so quick and easy. I never would have known they existed if it weren't for the fact that all the retail pharmacies were overrun and everybody was hunting for alternatives. But they're great. They send me a text when the new shots come in, I schedule (usually that week, my schedule is the limiter, not theirs) and it's 20 min in and out for the whole family. Their website is awful, but I can deal with that. and they're really good at giving shots. I couldn't even feel mine. I love them.

I've had good luck scheduling flu and covid shots w/CVS. Feds, you can get up to 4 hours of admin leave to get your covid booster.
ETA: I still haven't ever tested positive for covid or had a suspected case (everyone in my family has gotten it, mom just got it for the first time a month or so ago).
Novavax is being hailed as highly effective and having limited symptoms.
X2. The variant in the updated Novavax is older than the one in the update mRNA shots, but a lot of folks who report bad side effects with Pfizer/Moderna report fewer with Novavax, and efficacy/durability so far has been shown to be pretty comparable.
I don't get side effects from any of them, but I got Novavax at the Costco pharmacy last year just to mix it up for the hell of it.

I got my Covid and flu vaccines about 2 weeks ago and my arm was so sore! I prob said the same thing last year lol, but it caught me by surprise as I couldn’t sleep on that side for 2 nights and didn’t do my planned arm workout the morning afterwards. But otherwise all good. My partner was totally unphased/unaffected.
H got both flu & covid at the same time this week and was unwell for 36 hours or so.
I just got the flu shot earlier this week and scheduled my covid vax for Oct 5th.

Same pixy0stix . Last year I called 3-4 different pharmacies who said yes they did have the kid vaxx so I made an appt. When we arrived at the first one they didn't have it. The second one thought they didn't as well but luckily chased after us when they found the shipment in the back. It takes SO much mental and emotional work to get my autistic kid into a pharmacy for a shot. SO MUCH! To have to do it an extra fruitless time was awful. So draining for us all.
Everyone is done with Covid shots. I had to take DD farther away and it was the second to last dose to find a shot for her age group.
DH and I have flu shots done, and both kids are scheduled Wednesday for theirs. I like to get them done separately, but it requires a lot of different trips, so I might think about having them done together next year. I wanted them all done before DS's DC trip which is the second weekend in October.
In our area, typically, flu starts early to mid October, and we have seen some in Jan/ Feb, but we have never seen it in March/ April, so we like to do it earlier here.

I got both at work on Wednesday. I've gotten both at the same time 2 years in a row now, and I get the same symptoms in the evening. Chills, headache, etc. Its gone by morning. I just plan for it.
My H and I are getting ours tomorrow! I kind of forgot about the being sick thing and have plans on Sunday, so I hope I won't be. I don't think I've been as affected as many others in the past, but each one has felt a little different than the last so who knows what will happen.
pixy0stix, COVID shots take my H out, too - usually a couple of days of fever and misery. Last time he also fainted walking to the bathroom at night and unfortunately hit his head and injured his shoulder on the way down.
Last year, I remember a couple people (not here) saying they *couldn’t* get their booster until 90 days after having Covid.I thought I read that it’s ok to delay up to 90 days after Covid, but not that you had to wait to get it. I had Covid 3 weeks ago and we are traveling in 3.5 weeks. I like to time the shot at about 2-3 weeks before winter travel. H got his yesterday. I’m getting flu early next week. Trying to decide if Covid, too or wait a bit on that (time for December trip)
I did both at the same time last year and it kind of knocked me on my butt a little so I scheduled them for next Thursday after work since I wfh Friday and don’t have plans for that Saturday, but I do have puppy yoga scheduled for that Sunday for my friend’s birthday lol

Got my flu shot Tues and only had a swollen left tonsil the next am. Need to get on the covid for me and @kiddo and flu for her. I told H he gets to figure his own out since he's on different insurance.

OMG, poor guy. Mine is about 24 hours of fever/feeling pukey; and then another day of just feeling run down and then I'm better.

Yes yes yes!
We up in the PNW should get ours around mid-October or so since our flu season tends to hit Jan-March so this is how we get the most out of the vaccine's abilities. Covid vaccines should be done asap - we're seeing surges everywhere. And since Covid test reporting isn't mandatory anymore, it's hard to really tell what the real numbers are these days.
For those looking to shake things up with your Covid vaccine, see if your vaccine provider has Novavax - it's non-mRNA so might not have the same side effects as Pfizer/Moderna.
Also - @@@ - watch out for pertussis and make sure your kiddos are UTD with their Dtap/Tdaps. DS's school had a case (we've had 11 cases locally in the last month), and it turned out to be one of his (unvaccinated) friends! Luckily that friend wasn't in his class so he wasn't around him during his contagious period, and I sincerely hope they didn't spread it to anyone else. DS is fully vaccinated but a year out from his next Tdap.

LOL, Caplet, near the emissions testing place off Steven's Forest.
This is what the CDC has to say on timing after being sick:
People who recently had COVID-19 may delay getting a COVID-19 vaccine for 3 months.
The risk of getting COVID-19 is less likely in the weeks to months following a SARS-CoV-2 infection.
Certain factors could be reasons to get a vaccine sooner rather than later, such as: Personal risk of severe COVID-19
Risk of COVID-19 in a family or household member or other close contact
I interpret that to mean you would be safe to wait up to 3 months if you weren't going to be in a high risk situation, but since you're going to be traveling...I'd go ahead and do it. Whether you had it recently wasn't one of the screening questions, and I did actually have it last month. But it was a mild case, I live with little germ factories, and (this is the biggest factor for me personally) I if I waited I'm more likely to forget entirely and be unprotected the rest of the winter. So...I got mine.

I recommend Novavax for anyone trying to avoid side effects. Still trying to hunt one down for this fall, but my previous experience with Novavax was much better than Pzifer or Moderna.
@@@ I am pissed they still have not approved Novavax for under 12s.
