Just made appointments for everybody for Friday.
My pediatrician was "meh" on getting COVID shots for kids. He said for sure get the flu, but the covid wasn't as beneficial as in previous years? He was personally still getting the COVID vax because of his age & risk factors, but didn't feel it was necessary for kids.

To counter this, my son's pediatrician still recommends it for this year.
I feel like peds have been all over the board when it comes to kids.
Yea, that's kind of why I was asking. He told me last year he had 8 kids in the hospital and 4 in ICU, so he was strongly encouraging it last year. But it may also have something to do with the variants and what's available for kids vax?
Can someone talk this through with me? I'm getting my covid booster with my flu shot in about a week and half (early October). I also have a pretty big travel situation in mid-April where I will be around a lot of people all the time.
Worth it to get a second booster before my April travel?
I know I *can* but I don't see anything online that says whether it would be beneficial.
The ones out right now aren’t perfect matches with the variants that are circulating currently either but they hope it will help.
They are only effective for 4-6 months so according to my doctor redoing them in the spring is probably a good idea since we know Covid isn’t seasonal. The idea is that a spring booster will hopefully offer some protection going into the massive summer surges we’ve had.
I don’t think we are ever going to get vaccines that really sync up with the variants since it is mutating so rapidly so all we can do is take what they will give us

I don’t have kids but I don’t think there is a downside to being careful and vaccinated. It’s basic risk reduction. Most kids don’t get hospitalized with the flu or chicken pox but are encouraged to get vaccinated for them. We know more about their risks than we do Covid.

I am like a lot of posters and feel miserable and wrecked for two days after each of my Moderna and Phizer shots. So hoping that Novavax that I scheduled through the Target at CVS doesn't do me as dirty. Even though I feel like crap when I get them, I would never miss mine.
DD is going to get both of hers too and luckily doesn't have any side effects.
Both DH and DS don't like to get the flu and covid shot so I've given up on trying to convince them. They don't even get side effects....

Just made DS' flu shot appt for Friday right after my covid shot. I already have my flu shot. It is so hard to find kid covid vaccines here so I'll be calling around for it.
I got my flu & Covid vaccines late this afternoon and omg my arms hurt so bad already 😭 I feel like the person giving it makes a difference because I’ve never had it hurt this bad so quickly.

I always have a sore, swollen lump on my arm after the flu shot. I got both on Friday and immediately started with ibuprofen and an ice pack on my arm and it was much better this year. Still sore but less so and for a shorter time and almost no swelling.

I’m sorry:((( I got the covid booster a few weeks back, I feel like my arm was sore immediately? It got worse and lasted for a few days. I felt mildly bad the next day, but not like I couldn’t function, and it didn’t last too long. I think I maybe felt a little bad overnight, the night I got it? Take Tylenol, that’s what helps me anyway.
Today I got the flu shot, I would forget except I know that I got it. Only mildly sore if I push on it, but I’ve never had bad reactions to the flu shot, historically.
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus

Hope you feel better asap.
Yeah historically the flu shot has hurt my arm worse, but that arm feels basically normal now. But man, the Covid side. It’s like stabbing pain unless my arm is 100% at rest in one position. Crazy. It better be better enough by Sunday, I have puppy yoga! Lol

Update on symptoms :
2 vaccines on Wednesday (flu, Covid), same arm.
- Wednesday: sore arm for rest of day - Thursday: felt crappy in the afternoon/evening (still okay to go to Parent Night at the high school) - Friday: Back to normal
We took the kids and all 4 of us got both the flu and Covid booster. SD always gets a fever in the middle of the night. We did Tylenol tonight before bed, so hopefully she’s ok. I planned it for a Saturday, so she can rest tomorrow.

FYI for anyone searching for Novavax at CVS, if you have a child under 12 in your list of people it will not return Novavax as an option. DH had to make an appt for himself with Novavax then go thru the process again for DS since he is still too young.

I did Flu/Covid and kid all just did Flu only on Friday after school. Some sore arms but no other side effects. CVS had Moderna & Novavax, so I requested the Novavax and they were fine giving it to me.

This COVID shot kicked my ass in a way the previous ones did not. Headache, couldn’t get my heart rate down, and insomnia for nearly 5 days afterwards. I finally feel normal today.
It is so odd to me how everyone’s reactions appear to have been so across the board (no pun intended).
I previously had bad reactions to Covid vaccines in the past, headaches, flu like symptoms for a few days, etc.
Received both Covid and flu this Sunday in separate arms. Didn’t feel Covid going in at all and slightly felt flu but was like a 2/10 and definitely had worse in prior years.
Didn’t feel sick at all afterwards and the only thing was my left shoulder muscle (Covid shot) was pretty sore/tender for ~4 days. But I also sleep on the side and if I didn’t touch it then it didn’t hurt.

This country, man.
I was at the hospital for a mammogram. I had to travel quite a bit since the local hospital cannot do even that basic screening. While there, I stopped in to the health screening dept which handles vaccines. They not only didn't have a covid booster, they were shocked I asked (probably the only person in a couple years was the impression I got). But they called another hospital which also didn't have it.
It's surprising because the initial rollout was incredibly impressive. Automatically enrolled, tents set up, streamlined follow up boosters. And then... nothing.

I got my Novavax (first time) and flu shot at 5 today. This is the first time I haven't had bad effects. Usually get flu like symptoms, tiredness and fever for two days. Still too soon to say for sure but I feel good with only soreness in both arms.

Same, except I got both in the same arm, as the pharmacist suggested. I did clear my day tomorrow, just in case, as I typically feel like crap within 12 hours. We’ll see how I feel tomorrow.

Just got my Novavax COVID vaccine and flu shot! Also decided we needed to hand out full-size candy this year for Halloween because I was in Target and they had a good deal.
I got mine yesterday and I’m so sick. Couldn’t sleep overnight, bad headache, achy joints. Every damn time. I’m not sure continuing to get the booster is for me — it knocks me out for days every time 😭

I had both on Monday and when I woke up on Tuesday my whole body hurt. I felt like I had just run a marathon with zero training whatsoever. All my muscles were aching—arms and legs and abs and back and neck. When I woke up on Wednesday I felt fine though.
@@@@@@@@
My husband and kid got theirs yesterday and today my husband feels AWFUL. My kid is okay but has a low-grade fever. Normally they aren’t as affected by seasonal shots.

I'm at 24 hours and feel fine! First time ever. Love Novavax. Now my arms are both sore but I did a walk and power yoga. I am used to 2-3 days of feeling like garbage. My body most does not like Moderna and Phizer. I'm not complaining though, it kept me healthy

I feel great, not at all like I usually do the day after. However, I do have a giant purple bruise at the injection site, so I’m monitoring that.
I got both flu and Covid vaccines Monday in the same arm. The person giving it to me kinda gave me the side eye when I said I wanted them in the same arm. Why would I want both arms to be sore? Anyway, I mostly felt fine. The next day I did hit a wall mid afternoon with achy joints and a headache but I took some Ibuprofen and was fine. I did get a swollen lymph node in my armpit (did last year also) which is just mildly uncomfortable bc I can feel it. Not sure which shot causes that (so maybe a good reason to get them in separate arms after all, lol).
I got COVID a few days before my vaccine appointment. I have had a low-grade fever for seven days, could barely get out of bed on day 2, and after going up and down stairs twice today(day 7), I was gasping for breath and truly thought I was going to faint. It is so much worse than the first time I had it, which was a mild sore throat and some tiredness. I think I’m going to go to urgent care for a chest x-ray tomorrow.
In other words, don’t delay the vaccine because your past experience with Covid was mild!
