I’m home and done with all things on my todo list for the day, H and I are both just watching the weather channel. Between Nola and PR, we know what it’s like, I hate this for all in the path. Why do these things always happen at night? Is there some scientific reason?!
The best part of Michael (if there was anything) was it hit mid-day. However, that meant I lived three days in one: hurricane prep, hurricane, and aftermath.
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus

It is absolutely devastating. Praying for the people impacted. Really praying for all Floridians…our insurance situation is already so precarious. I told my husband I wish I could just get the hell out of here.
Western NC has crazy flooding. My house has had 16 inches of rain since Wed. Over eight inches in the last 24 hours. No power. My sister is likely stuck in her neighborhood with the main road out being flooded/closed in both directions. Could be 500 year flood levels in some areas.

And it keeps coming! We've also lost electricity.
A few more hours to go! Hoping for no down trees at our house and no mud slide at my sister's. Stay safe!

YES. All the ones I've been through have come during the night. I've always been so disappointed lol. The day after the hurricane is always so eerie - no winds or anything.
We've haven't had it bad here on the east coast of florida this time. But a friend of mine in Gainesville had a tree fall onto her house, into the master bedroom.
I don’t understand why hurricanes are mostly at night either!! I’ve been through a few and Ike was at night. Harvey was FOUR nights of terror. Beryl from earlier this year was in the morning though. So weird.
Hope all of our posters in the path are safe this morning. So much destruction.
I am so worried - in my head I am telling myself it's fine - my college kid is prob having a huricane party with no worries. But no cell phone/internet and reported in/out power and water at her college campus. Additonal detail she was suppose to travel from Western Carolina to Gatlinburg today but last night I *believe* I convinced her not to go. If they tried to leave today, surely there was no way with all the flooding. I am not fine right now.

I am so sorry as that must be so scary. If it helps at all I am in the piedmont of NC and it rained steadily from last evening into today and the wind was very gusty very early so there would not have been a window for them to say let’s give it a go and are almost certainly where they were when you last spoke. Hoping and praying you get concrete word from her very soon. (((Hugs)))

Big hugs to those of you impacted and worried about your loved ones.
My BIL is a linesman here in Canada and his team was just deployed to go help. He will be out there for 2-3 weeks, leaving Saturday afternoon once the trucks are fully loaded with spare equipment.
Hugs katb, and everyone else affected. The videos and pictures from FL to NC and around are just heartbreaking. I didn’t hear from my family for a few days after Maria. I don’t wish that wait to anyone.
My mom was finally able to talk to my 93 year old grandfather who lives alone in Aiken, SC. Trees down on his screen porch, yard is a mess, power is out, but otherwise okay.

A friend lives just outside of Asheville and has basically been living at the hospital (she's a nurse) as there's no power, no service, (except at hospital) and babies still keep needing to get born. I don't think she's been able to get back home yet.

I've been at the hospital a lot as my mom broke her hip earlier this week. These poor nurses have been here for days. The hospital has no water. We are currently sitting here waiting for her to be discharged. We are going to try to get to Charlotte.

Let us know if you need anything when you get to Charlotte. Safe travels
I'm in Greenville, SC, and its been terrible. I think we are still in shock. Lost power the night the storm hit, our finished basement flooded, and several 100 yr old oaks fell on our house and both my and my son's car. We had kids sleeping over and I had to move them out of the basement b/c of the flooding and then the tree fell, so we moved to the middle of the house. Power lines are still laying in most streets with no update on when power will be restored. Several deaths from falling trees. Asheville and surrounding areas are under water. Chimney Rock has been literally washed away.

I have family in Siesta Key. While the hurricane didn't directly hit them, they were hit with what seems to be a historic storm surge. From the reports I'm getting, much of the island is in rough shape. A few businesses are starting to open again, but most lower level structures are dealing with floods and destruction.A lot of people have lost everything.
With that said, my family may need help as their condo sustained significant damage and they are older and not necessarily able to do what needs to be done on their own. I or another family member may go down to help as it's difficult to help them from afar (we are in the Midwest). However, I keep seeing that there are possibly more Gulf storms/hurricanes likely in the next week or so. But when i try to get more info, I can only find current storms that are no where near the gulf coast of Florida. Hoping someone here is more knowledgeable and can help me find a better source for this information? Is there a predicted storm already or is it more of a "conditions are likely" situation.'? This will affect if/when we can get down to help

Here’s more info about the current development in tropics. TLDR- too early to say, keep monitoring

I am definitely not an expert, but I believe it’s more of a “conditions are likely” situation. Nothing has formed yet, but the current likelihood of something forming in the gulf in the next 7 days is 50%. I can’t find the article now, but I did see one meteorologist saying that if something does form, it probably wouldn’t be as strong as Helene. Hopefully nothing develops, but it’s too soon to say for sure.

The amount of people on social media blaming the government for not properly warning them, when I can go back to wherever they're posting from and see multiple news articles etc. and the NWS practically screaming that the weather is going to be life threatening... it's disheartening. I don't know how the government can warn people if they're not listening.

It feels like that people only think people on the coast should worry & prepare for hurricanes (in their immediate coastal storm surge & winds). I do think we need a better storm warming system in general and for hurricanes specifically. I get that flooding is really tricky to predict & at least most of the national news was focused on the initial hit to Florida. Was the catastrophic flooding predicted for NC and the other areas? Was the local/state government sending out warnings & preparing for this level of disaster?

So what triggered this was a post from an acquaintance who lives in Asheville. The news and weather service ABSOLUTELY predicted the floods in the strongest terms possible. States of emergency were declared beforehand. Areas were already starting to flood from another storm system, so people should have known that it was going to get worse. And, tbf, I have friends in the area who did know and started hunkering down as quick as they could.
