I’m in a very fuck all mood because we can’t drum up any parent, family, etc. volunteers for something my scout troop is really looking forward to doing. We almost never ask for any help, so it’s maddening how no one will see this is a unique circumstance and understand the importance of their assistance.
Just a general plea: please step up if you’re being asked to help. If you’ve received 5 emails begging for an hour to two hours of your time, stop thinking that you can toss money at the problem to make it go away. Or just ignore it because someone else will do it. You are the *someone else*. Sometimes you really do need to put in sweat equity.
I'm sorry, it is so frustrating. I'm in the same boat as a member of our neighborhood association (not an HOA)-- residents will complain and complain about things but then never show up or even donate to help with fixing anything. It's fallen on the same three people for years now and we're all about to quit.
I've been trying to remove hard water stains from my shower glass since I moved in end of June. Things that have not fully removed it: daily spraying/squeegie after shower with diluted vinegar. CLR. Dawn Powerwash. Dawn original, vinegar and water. A paste of vinegar and baking soda (also very messy). It's better, but it's still there. I've grown very obsessed with this and have RainX at the ready to coat it with once I do get rid of it completely, but I'm starting to fear that will never happen. Stayed tuned for more looks into my exciting life!
Try Bar Keeper's Friend, the powder not the ready to use gel. This stuff is great. I find all the CLR type products aren't very good unless you let them sit for hours on an horizontal surface.
TR @tw I've been thinking about that kind of thing a lot actually, esp with the early 2000s ideal body coming back after so much work for body acceptance. The social media jokes about almond moms and stuff but I wonder how many of us who grew up at that time do actually have ED. I do. And it's a lifetime thing to deal with, so it's so easy to fall into the pattern of finding worth in our size, even if we are happily partnered and healthy. IDK. I want to think it is a better time for the next generations but we'll probably fuck it up.

My sleep has been pretty off. My poor DH gets woken up most nights by my panic from stress, although adding a weighted blanket to the bed seems to help a little. I fall asleep on the couch a lot, which up until about a year ago was out of the norm. I really need to start putting on cream, brush my teeth etc. then watch TV as I am pretty much wide awake if I do my routine after falling asleep on the couch. Then my body wakes up at least once for the bathroom, and then usually 2 - 3 times before I have to get up for work. I need a solid 8 hours bro (and then 3 days off to rest).
Booked my flu shot through a clinic at my PCP's, but they can't do COVID booster at the same time. I may try to do the booster the day after if possible then have the weekend to recover from everything. I wish my body could just give me a sore arm and move on.
Finally, I briefly re-connected with 2 people (a couple) from college I didn't actually spend that much time with at alumni weekend. We all became FB friends and they're very nice, but I think they're more alumni AF and want to drive up participation. Anyway the guy commented on my post about waking up Green Day now that September ends and said he's stealing and sharing with our old friend. It was driving me crazy who is this old friend, but thankfully he went and added "old friend <common first name>, but they're not on FB anymore" so I had to write back "which <first name>?" I'm a bit annoyed with myself who much mental bandwidth this is taking up, lol.

Cup of vinegar, few squirts of dawn, no water. Repeat as necessary.
Although I have read that it may have etched the glass.
I was just thinking lately that I'm on 2 medicines that say you *could* have weight loss as a side effect. I also started really being good about fiber and overall feel a lot better. My face is pretty puffy right now and I'm so hard on myself wondering why those things aren't helping, even though I don't even think about working out besides an under the desk pedal thing and moving on breaks. I've always had disordered eating and now have a lot of the body issues that I could probably look a tiny bit better if I worked out, but I'm not motivated, oh and age, hormones all that.

I have some at home, worth a shot!! Each time I clean it, I sit there as it dries, watching with great anticipation.....and NOPE lol.

You mean the stains can etch the glass? I don't know if I can live with this lol. I did try straight vinegar and dawn since it was highly recommended on the internet. When that didn't work I poured the rest into my daily spray bottle that had diluted vinegar in it already and I spray with that each morning. I also need to get the stains off the tile but I'm trying to narrow down what works best with the glass and then I'll do the walls.

Yes, gocleanco on IG said sometimes the water stains end up etching the glass. So it's clean, but doesn't look it.
Well, I had my colonoscopy yesterday and the 90% of it they could see looked great. They tried a pediatric scope and repositioned me, but said my abs were too tight and they couldn't work around it without causing me pain. Unfortunately I have a redundant and tortuous colon (it's longer than necessary and it's twisted as a result of it trying to fit in my body). So I'm getting an xray with a barium enema...fun! More fasting, but I don't think I have to drink more of the colon prep stuff, so I'll take it. DH was pale till I told him the radiology tech/nurse gives the enema. I have very little recall of yesterday. I remember being wheeled to the exam room and nothing else till I woke up in my bed at home and DH asked what I wanted to eat. No recall of getting dressed, riding home, showering etc. DH says I didn't say or do anything embarrassing except asking everyone the results....including the valet guy. Eta Sorry spindle92 , no signs of any online shopping sprees.
hey it's still early. Packages just might start showing up in a few days
I also have 2 houses that seem to attract interesting characters.
Next door is a rare newer ranch-style SFH that's turned over a couple of times. The original owner sold it to his second wife's mom's trust; she was in her 90s with dementia and lived there 4 years with a caregiver. They sold to a couple (wife had MS) with 2 teen daughters-- they moved for the single floor and also better Sped services for the older girl. They were only there 2 years when they sold to buy a duplex to take care of her parents. It's a Victorian and I can't imagine it's easy for the wife. They sold to a 70-year-old single guy with no furniture who moved there from my mom's 55+ community (he didn't like that it was populated by old people, lol). He lived there for less than 6 months and sold it to a close-to-retirement couple from NJ looking for lower taxes. They've been here 2 1/2 years and not registered their cars in PA. The daughter who is still at home did.
The house on the corner went into foreclosure about 6 years ago. The husband still lived there and the listing for the house warned not to approach him or the property. This went on for about 2 years. Early in the pandemic, a couple bought the house but didn't move into it. Once in while, the husband did yard work and the FIL came daily to empty the mailbox. The house stayed empty for almost 2 years before they actually moved. Turns out, they were living with her parents (and their 3 boys) in a very similar house on the very next street. During this time, they didn't do any major remodeling or anything. Maybe some fresh paint but that's about it. FIL said his wife and DD liked living together. They seem nice, but who owns a house for 2 years before moving? I mean, it's not like the kids even needed to change bus stops.
I am so frustrated with DD's chemistry class. She's struggling, and it seems like the teacher is basically running through notes at top speed in class, covering material not in handouts but writes literally nothing on the board, assigns no hw other than to review the handouts, and then is shocked when the majority of class keeps failing quizzes/tests. Teaching HS isn't an easy job and I really try to give teachers the benefit of the doubt, but in this case it seems like if might be her.
Related, anyone have good HS chem study guide? (bonus if it's geared toward IB Chem, this class is theoretically equivalent to the first half of that)

SONOFA..... Whyyyyyy would someone remodel their bathroom and then never clean the glass? It was done 2 years ago and they must have never cleaned it, so maybe it is etched.
DD's kindergarten teacher apparently keeps calling her by the wrong name. This is perplexing because I hang out with this teacher socially on occasion and she was also DS' teacher 2 years ago and saw DD daily at drop off. She should know my kid's name lol. I emailed the teacher being all "DD is sad that people in class have been calling her <wrong name>, if you witness this can you please reinforce her name?" because its awkward to be all "Can you please call my kid who you've known for years by the right name? Thanks" lol

I would just like to say that shower glass is from the devil, and showers doors with a track are from the 9th circle of hell. Never will I choose to have glass or doors near a shower. We have glass doors in our primary bathroom shower (and when we can afford to redo the shower, the doors and glass will be gone) - the other two bathrooms have a tub/shower combo with a shower curtain. I have washable shower curtain liners, which are 1000 times easier.
I bought a few things for fall in the office from Old Navy (including a pair of lug soled boots) and it said everything shipped in one package, but the package that came was just a bag with the clothes. No boots. And, like, you wouldn’t have put a pair of size 10 lug sole boots in this bag in the first place. I put in a delivery problem and I hope they get it resolved 🤞🏻 very weird.

I don't understand the appeal of glassed in showers, especially if the class is clear. The argument for them seems to be that they make the bathroom feel bigger. I don't particularly care if my bathroom feels small. Maybe that's wierd? I like knowing that if someone wanders into my bathroom while I'm in the shower, my ass isn't literally on display.

I also don't like looking at all my stuff in there when I'm not showering. I'd rather see an attractive curtain and not the half empty bottle of body wash my husband uses.
Once I found curved shower rods, my life was changed for the better. Down with glass. Up with easily washable curtains and liners!

I loved my old glass shower doors that you could both pull in and push out to open the door, with no track. I had cleaners then so they always looked good. The ones I have now are on a track and they suck for cleaning because I have to slide the doors opposite each other to clean 1/4 of the glass on each door. I know I won't spend money to replace them since I don't consider this my forever home, but the water stains will annoy me until the day I move!
ETA: I can't picture a shower curtain with a walk-in shower. Does it keep the water out? Reminds me of gym showers. Agreed that I'd rather not see all my shower crap on display so if I had my druthers I'd have fogged glass doors.

I have a temporary curtain right now, as I just redid my bathroom and the shower doors are on order. It works but you have make sure the curtain hangs far enough down, really kind of pooling a bit on the floor. I'm actually looking forward to the glass doors but boy, you folks are making me a little terrified! lol
On the topic of windows and shades/blinds, I live in a very quiet neighborhood. Only two neighbors could look into my house from the front, otherwise someone driving or walking by could, but we're a self-contained block of about 20 houses bordered by a busy street, so only people in the neighborhood ever come through. So, I leave my blinds/curtains open all the time. And when my brother and SIL come by, they always close the blind in the downstairs bathroom, even though only one neighbor could ever see in and there's a tree in the way. And the window is high up, nothing to see unless you're stepping out of the shower. Cracks me up - I guess I don't really care if someone driving by sees the very top of my head as I'm sitting on the toilet.

My H is trying to convince me to try to do what I used to do to lose weight (aka track calories, etc). Nope, I'm done. I can't do it. Every time I've ever done it, I've triggered my ED thoughts/actions. So now, no more dieting. I'd rather be heavier and happier than miserable due to dieting. I'm now focusing more on getting good protein and lots and lots of different veggies. I feel healthier due to it, even if I weigh more than I'd like.

I'm sorry. David's taking Chemistry this year and it's his toughest class. He thankfully has an amazing teacher, but I can only imagine how much harder it would be if he didn't. Have you reached out to the teacher?

Ok, maybe it's my specific shower doors, LOL! They are a textured, frosted glass sliding doors (late 90s/early 00s), so maybe I would feel differently if they were smooth, clear glass and swing only (no sliding track). We also do not have a cleaning person, so maybe I would feel differently if DH and I were not the ones who always had to clean them.

I’m sorry. We are having a similar issue with Biology. The teacher literally does not teach. He’s like here is the TEKS (basically learning standard) we are working on and you can read about it in the textbook. Quiz tomorrow. There is no lesson, no explanation, no study guide, nothing. No labs either. He says it’s supposed to be self led which is crap and wrong. His advice for poor grades? Study harder. Okay. They can’t study what they don’t know.
So yeah. All that to say is we are using all other resources. Their old science teacher has made himself available before school for tutoring and DD uses Khan Academy if she needs to. They all just Gmail each other practice quizzes they made themselves and it’s helping. Not looking forward to a whole year of this though.

Are you the type of friend who is comfortable telling a friend that they’re being an idiot? Because God bless you. We all need those pull no punches people.
I’ve been putting off scheduling my follow up audiogram because I know my left side is decreasing (right side seems stable) and this past weekend, my friend had enough. She and her adult nephew were looking for her mobile in their living room and since it was low volume / vibrate I couldn’t hear it. I originally thought they were messing with me, trying to be cheeky, etc… But no, I saw the call log but heard absolutely zero faint ringing or buzzing. She gently gave me the “The only person you’re hurting is yourself” speech and I finally called and now have an appointment on Mon afternoon!!
Sometimes we all need a swift kick in the behind! And I’m grateful she did that for me! 💕

My daughter is in Pre-IB Chem right now, too, but she has a great teacher. There just aren't a lot of publicly available sources for her class, DD's notes are a massive binder with multiple tables of contents- it's pretty intense!
Have you guys found the IB repository yet? This is very unofficial and is not IB approved, ha- so she may not want to mention it to her teachers. But it's an awesome resource for any IB kid! There are past tests, questions, IA's, study guides and books- I linked you directly to the chem study guides/books. I hope something there helps!
ETA: Is there a different teacher for IB Chem? I'm sure they know there's an issue and may have tutoring or other help available (they have an interest in the Pre-IB kids, of course).
ETA2: The Oxford folder there has full texts and study guides as PDFs, it's well regarded and a good place to start.

Just jumping on this bandwagon but for math honors. Teacher doesn’t teach. Gives then problems with brand new concepts. Reads the problem out loud and then tells them to do it. If they get it right, she reward them with the equivalent of a gold star.
She doesn’t post the answer key so they can teach themselves until after class.
There are no text books.
Queue me re-learning graphing of sine and cosine so I can teach her how to find the amplitude, period, horizontal and vertical shift. We were up past midnight the other night. Ay yi yi.
Chemistry was one of my favorite high school classes - probably in my top 2 overall. I had an incredible teacher, who definitely helped make the class great. I'm sorry so many of your kids are struggling with bad teachers in a tough subject.
