I am somewhat local to this. I can't read the article, but it was one person who has since been arrested --not an armed militia.
It's a gift article so you should be able to read it.
Maybe you should read your own link. Your post title is misleading. The article that you linked says the following:
While the initial report said there was “a truck load of militia that was involved,” the statement said, authorities said that they concluded “it was determined that Parsons acted alone and there was no truck loads of militia going to Lake Lure.”

The article changed from when I posted it this morning. I wasn't commenting on her update, I was saying the article should have been free for her to read.
From the article: “It’s terrible because a lot of these folks who need assistance are refusing it because they believe the stuff people are saying about FEMA and the government,” Duncan said. “And it’s sad because they are probably the ones who need the help the most.”
I speak for myself when I say, in my personal & professional experience as a social worker, this is what wears me down more than anything. It’s a perversion of the “American exceptionalism” myth. Somehow, Americans are so special and so favored by god that we don’t need community, we don’t need an American government. Even when we need it most.
