Hugs Susie. It took us a year to pick up our pup's ashes from the vet. I thought about it every time I drove past but could never bring myself to go inside. Thankfully, they didn't push us at all. H finally did it, and I'm glad she's home now.
Maybe I'm just a crabby old lady, but I don't understand why every single organization feels the need to do a "trunk or treat." I just saw our school's PTO canceled theirs due to lack of interest. I mean, no shit, there's actual trick or treat night plus 10 other churches/clubs/organizations are probably doing trunk or treats.
Isn't trick or treating for real enough? I didn't grow up in the country where it was hard to do that, though, so maybe I'm not fully understanding this. It all seems excessive though.
Trunk or Treat was not a thing when I was growing up. I took my kids because I felt like I had to but I didn’t enjoy it at all. I didn’t need one more thing to do, especially after work!
My 5 year old goes to preschool inside a Lutheran church and they just announced 10/31 is “Noah’s Ark Day” and asked all kids to dress up like animals. I’m pretty annoyed because DS is going to be a pumpkin with an axe (lol), so now I have to figure out a second costume for him. I could just send him in regular clothes but mom guilt wins out.
We went to look at new cars yesterday and ended up leasing an EV (Honda Prologue.) I like it so far! I didn’t initially want to lease but I feel good about it with the deal we got, and since I’m not 100% sold on if a full EV is right for our family we can re-evaluate in 3 years.
This is the last week for 3 different sports for my kids and H, I’m looking forward to a slower few months and cozy weather!
I did the same thing. I leased my car back in August and have been really happy with it, and same thing, if I decide in 3 years that an EV isn't for me, no harm no foul. Though, I did invest in a Level-2 charger home so there's that
And not that you asked, but I just got my first electric bill with the charger at home, and keeping in mind that I actually have 2 EVs, one that I charge 2-3 times a month, and the other that gets charged 3-4 times a week, only charging off-peak, my bill only went up $30, compared to the nearly $450/mth I was spending on gas.
That’s a huge savings! We don’t spend that much on gas but I’m hoping we will still see decent savings since we plan to use the EV for most shorter trips, right now we mostly use my H’s truck.

I get the annoyance, but 5 below usually has kits of animal ears/tail/glove paws, which would be a cheap way to let your kid participate. I just got a FB memory of DD at preschool age wearing her 5 below dog ear headband, because she looked adorable and wore it everywhere for like 3 weeks straight and pretended to be a dog off and on for like 3 years straight.
I hope that I don’t come off as a NIMBY, but there are so many camper vans in our neighborhood and I’m sick and tired of it. It’s not people experiencing homelessness (those are there too, but not in great numbers and I don’t mind those). The camper vans I’m upset about are tourists who I’m sure have read somewhere that they can park their rental campers in our neighborhood. We’re not a campground! I was walking the dog a few weeks ago and someone was crouched outside their camper washing socks in a bucket, and my H watched another camper take down a recently planted tree trying to parallel park.

I don't know why everyone needs to do it either. I'm just happy that the clinic my DS' was diagnosed at has one every year. They're so inclusive. No need to dress up or say trick or treat, just come and get candy. ToT in a neighborhood is hard for him. Too many unknowns about dogs at the door, not knowing if there will be a person dressed in a scary costume on the other side of the door etc etc.
I grew up in the country (no sidewalks or streetlights and houses an acre apart) so my family went to my paternal grandparents' house to ToT in their neighborhood.

Yeah, it was definitely a shock. Of course I was expecting a savings, but only charging super off-peak makes it really, really inexpensive. Good luck with your new car!
I broke my foot over the weekend. I’m currently trying to find an orthopedist who can see me earlier than next week. This is my first broken bone ever. And tomorrow is my birthday….weeeee!
My daughter got hurt at her soccer game and urgent care X-rays said no break, but it is so swollen and bruised that they said we need to go to an orthopedic. I was “lucky” that they got a cancellation for today, otherwise it would have been a week from now. How do people wait a week with broken bones?!?!?
