I saw a job posted yesterday that looked interesting, but they offer only 10 vacation days per year for the first 5 years! WTF. They do have 7 personal days, whatever that means, but if I take a new job somewhere it is going to have to have MORE PTO, not less. Something tells me that I'm just going to keep my current job forever and should stop being curious about others, lol. Every time I think about applying for something else, there is some good reason not to. I do get kind of bored in my role but I just had a good performance review, so maybe I need to just keep on keeping on and find other things to entertain me.
I feel like if you are really interested you should apply. PTO policies are typically a flexible negotiating tool. You won't know unless you ask.
beerlover , have you tried those feline pheromone diffuser things? They supposedly help with anxiety. Otherwise, they do make anxiety meds for cats so it is worth talking to your vet. I am sorry that is hard. Sometimes cats just take a while to warm up. We got a cat in May 2020 and it has NEVER let my youngest pet him. Much to his dismay because he LOVES cat and all he wants to do is pet the cat and love him.
Well, we went away on vacation for 2 weeks this summer and it was like a switch flipped and suddenly the cat is fine with him. This was also the cat that hid in our ceiling for weeks until deciding he was obsessed with me and now never leaves my side.
Hopefully your cat adjusts soon. Can you lock cat 2 up some night for a bit and get cat 1 snuggle time in?
H and I said that tonight we'll lock the new cat up for awhile and bring the old one down in the living room with us and hopefully entice her to snuggle. We may need to wrap her up like a burrito in a blanket or something, ha.
We have a Feliway spray that I'll spritz around where she lays, and we had one diffuser plugged in upstairs, but I am sure it probably wasn't enough for our 2 story house. I am loathe to spend more money after spending $60 x 2 for flea treatment for 3 months for both cats plus the money for an exterminator. Sob. But maybe I should try to get like 3 Feliways or something.
Having one cat cost me almost nothing besides food, litter, and 1 vet appointment per year. 2 cats is apparently costing me hundreds and hundreds of dollars in the span of a few months, lol. Stupidest decision ever.

beerlover, I had two of my cats on Fluoxetine (kitty prozac) for several months to ease a bad introduction. Talk to your vet and suggest it as something for both cats.
I had an older kitty who just was not happy, AT ALL, with the new cat. One brother was bad enough, adding a second turned her life into a horror show, to the point where I had to carry her to the litter box. (Brother thought, "hey, she can't go anywhere, I'll say "hi!! when she's in the litter box!!!" so she had cause for being concerned.)
Seven years down the line, we have a general détente. She still thinks he sniffs her butt too much, he still thinks she should love him because he's so cute. She still hisses once in a while and smacks him. He still deserves it sometimes.
But I caught this - only happens once or twice a year, but I have evidence. Her on the left, him on the right.

Unfortunately it's a state job, so probably not as flexible! Somehow I always end up working places with pretty locked in policies (for equity reasons) and have never been able to negotiate additional.
I got a mouth guard on Thursday and it has been way more difficult to get used to than anticipated. I feel like I'm sleeping super light since I got it, and last night I woke up at 2 and tried to go back to sleep until 4 am. I finally ripped it out, but wasn't able to go back to sleep. When is this going to get better??? Ugh, I know I need this thing, but I NEED to get used to it ASAP.
I remember that for months I would wake up and my mouthguard would have been in my bedding somewhere because I ripped it out in discomfort in my sleep. I finally told that to my dentist and he made adjustments to it and now I cannot fall asleep at night without it! Maybe talk to the team to see if they can make it more comfortable?
Interesting - I'm having a similar struggle with mine, too. I haven't even gotten as far as falling asleep with it, because it makes me feel like gagging.
Once yours was adjusted, how much do you feel pressure on your teeth? Mine doesn't hurt, but definitely feels like it's pushing on them more than expected. I don't know if that would change the gagging, but maybe?

I did continue with that terrible job. When I went in person to speak with her last week, it actually wasn’t as bad as she was describing. HOWEVER. It’s 32-36 hrs/week. Even with pay bump, it’s less or a wash. And it stars at 1 week vacation per year, increasing a week per year, topping out at 3 weeks. And she doesn’t really take much time off. :/
And also her daughter is coming in straight out of dental school to just take over. No associateship at another practice to learn business or practice style at all. So. Yeah.
But it’s closer. But it sounds like such a nightmare shitshow. Even if I asked for 3 years vacation to start and 4 or 5 weeks max, and a compensatory salary. I still don’t know. Lol. I know. It’s a no. But it doesn’t mean I’m not dithering a ton. Haha

I love my new job and fit in very well. The company aligns with my personal beliefs. That being said I hate hate hate this is not a safe place. I have been part of history and I cannot share with my stranger friends. I know I share a lot of my life here and I want to spread the joy. Instead I’ll sit here and tell you guys how amazing the last few days in my career have been

I got a traditional night guard a few months ago. I could never get used to it.
I ended up getting botox in my masseter plus a much thinner invisalign style guard. That's much better for me. The thick guard was terrible.

Where did you get the invisalign style guard? I hadn't considered masseter botox...I'll look into that! Thanks for the recs!

no pressure as long as I softened it in warm water first

I went to a regular appointment and they said how's your night guard and I said, I hate it! My dentist office does both botox and invisalign there so they used my existing scans. Botox was $12/unit, 50 units.
