There is usually a T&C of being a loyalty member and using loyalty points buried somewhere on the hotel's website. I'd try to locate that and read it to know what it says for a situation like this, if it says anything.
I'm sorry this happened to you and I hope you get resolution. I would've also thought everything was totally fine given you received a confirmation email just a few days before! I wonder if it was some kind of glitch in their points booking system where this hotel showed up as available if you tried to book with points last year but didn't show up if you tried to book with money. Or I wonder if someone on their IT team was playing a sick joke or carrying out some revenge or something. Usually the travel hacking community is on top of errors like this so this one seems especially egregious.
sent, an IT bug is the only reasonable cause I can think of, too. Like this hotel is listed in an out-of-date database and someone accidentally set up the points reservation system to use that database.
I'm so sorry. I can't imagine how overwhelming that was for you. Absolutely demand cash and points.
We arrived at a hotel years ago that had suddenly closed the same evening due to a fire. It seemed most of their customers were flying in from overseas (Europe) and no one had received word of the fire upon arrival. There were a lot of us trickling in. HOWEVER... The hotel staff had rolling carts with laptops on the streets, and taxis lined up. Each arriving guest checking in was loaded into a new taxi and taken to a new hotel while being given white glove service. They just handed us our papers, and off we went. All we had to do at the new hotel was grab our key at the front desk. Seamless, despite the panic and emergency vehicles at our original hotel.
I'm in shock that they didn't have a backup plan for you, and didn't relay an emergency plan.
Well, I still have yet to speak to a human. They asked me to email them my bank statement with the hotel charge on it. I sent them a screenshot of the replacement hotel yesterday and received the exact same email back today word for word asking for the statement with the charge. So as of now we are going nowhere fast. I’ll be making a call tomorrow (probably to just be passes around again) if I don’t have anything in my email.
They have not replied to my TikTok. Only on X/Twitter.

Is it possible you were never charged? I am not familiar with how booking with rewards works but I don’t pay for a hotel until I check out. What does the confirmation you received say? Does it show that you paid something and possibly the last 4 digits of the card?

I don’t believe I was charged for the Wyndham hotel, however I paid $900 to a different hotel (was going to pay $200 for the original hotel) just to have a place to stay.
The only update I have is that I interviewed with a NOLA news channel today regarding it all. Wyndham still won't speak to me until I send them my cc statement. Even to explain why they let me book the room.

Is there a reason you aren't sending Wyndham your CC statement, or have they just not gotten it yet? I know it won't show the cancelled hotel room, but it would show what you spent on the replacement room, right?

Hope getting the news involved gets some results!
Because my statement doesn’t close until November 25th and they won’t accept a screen shot of the charges.
I think it's bonkers they want your entire CC statement. Why do they need to see an entire months activity in addition to the one charge that is relevant??
Right? I can send them a summary of the charges but it doesn't have ALL the info they want (name, CC company, charges to the hotel) I've sent them shots of the charges but because it doesn't also include the CC name and DHs name (card is under his name) they won't accept it.

Why won’t they accept the receipt from the hotel that has all that info? Dumb dumb.
Finally a real update! Wyndham called me back yesterday! It only took 3 weeks and close to a dozen e-mails! The lady was super nice and said she also was a Swiftie so she totally understood the panic of being without a hotel with Taylor in town.
When I send the cc statement, they will reimburse me the approximately $700 in difference between the two hotels. They also gave me a bunch of Wyndham points. That's essentially what I wanted, but never stated, so I'm happy with that. She couldn't explain how this was able to happen, but that also wasn't really her job. I still hope I find out how many people this has happened to before. I can't be the only one.
Anyway, in 10 days my statement closes, so hopefully by December 1st I'll have my money and this will just be a story you tell at the holidays.
