I'm definitely sensitive to the change in light. The sun setting at 4:30 means I'm ready for bed by 8pm. I also wake up too early, which keeps the cycle going for weeks.
I have found my night visions had gotten much worse the past few years, so I am already getting annoyed at driving home in the dark, and now it’s just going to be worse.
I also have sleep issues this time of year. After spending way too much time overthinking why my insomnia is so bad, I think it’s that my brain doesn’t get that 10 or 11pm is finally sleep time, since I’ve been in “awake mode” for 4 to 6 hours of pitch black already (it can be dark at 4:30 in December). I also have a strong need to go to the carribbean around the solstice, just for the daylight. The warmth helps, but it’s mostly the daylight.
I am not bothered by clocks changing at all. Clearly, I am a minority.
Oh yes I should’ve added this in to my post as well haha. I’m not at all sensitive to time change so it doesn’t bother me. Like the people that say they’re dragging for weeks after the time change is just not something I experience. Maybe because I have an erratic bedtime and wake up schedule in general? Sometimes I’m up at 6, sometimes I’m up between 730 and 8. The days are shorter/darker because of winter in general so it is what it is.
@@@ I never had an issue with it until I had kids in school. Schools start so stupidly early that I’ve been chronically overtired since then, so the spring forward when we lose an hour of sleep follows me for a long time. No matter how hard I try, my body just doesn’t want to be awake at 6:30 am and it’s even worse when 6:30 is really 5:30.

I'd rather just pick one and stick with all year, but I'm also not sensitive to the change. Even when I had babies I never really understood the big fuss...its an hour.
It's an hour, yes, but it's the difference of waking up in daylight or darkness, getting to go for an after-work run in daylight or darkness. That's a big deal for me and many.
I am team pick one and stick with it. Give me either my mornings or my evenings consistently and don't make me mess with changing the clocks.

Oh I hear you on the darkness. I don't love it being dark at 4pm and also hate that I cannot get in an after work run Nov-March, I meant the jet lag type feeling some people experience. Its never happened to me or made a huge difference in my kids schedules.

Ah, it looks like I misread your post. Guess my coffee hasn't kicked in yet with the late sunrise this morning. 🤣

Not you, I see how what I wrote could be construed that way. I also need coffee
The end of DST means that I have to go over my stock of glow/reflective stuff for our evening dog walks, recharge/replace batteries and make sure things still work. Because it's pitch-black by the time we eat dinner and go, and we live in a neighborhood with no sidewalks or street lights.
OTOH, I do enjoy being able to see the stars and planets during those walks.
Year round Standard Time for me.I have reverse SAD. We are coming up on my happy time.
Also, I hate when the dum dums around me act like the time change makes it more dark instead of more darkness being caused by winter.
Well, because of the time change it is an abrupt change. If we did not change the clocks it would be a gradual change to less light. So I can see why people say this.
Team pick a time and stick with it. I say we split the difference. Adjust the clocks 30 minutes and just keep them there.
This is what I've wanted for as long as I can remember lol.
Time changes are the worst. Someday maybe the madness will end.
I live at the western edge of the Eastern Time zone, so on the shortest days (of daylight), it gets dark around 5 pm. I always feel back for NYC and those on the eastern edge of the Eastern Time zone because it gets dark around 4 on the shortest days of the year.
I like rolling the time back. I always need the extra sleep in fall because it's my crazy season at work. Feels like a treat.

Also, I hate kids walking to the bus in the dark in the mornings. It's creepy, and people hurrying to work/school seem to forget they are all around. We have a LOT of kids in our neighborhood (2 busses just for our neighborhood to get to the elementary school, and a lot of parents also drive them). People seem slower in the evening when they're tired after a long day, so those exercising at night don't seem at quite the same risk.
this validates for me how I have always felt, especially as a California person. Staying on Daylight Savings year round would be much better than standard.
7:30 sunrise is fine. It’s light before then and I love to watch the sunrise anyway. But having it dark during normal afternoon hours is brutal.
I’ve almost come around to the current system, but if we are going to pick a yearound time, I want it to be summer.
If we go to standard time, I think we should do away with the Pacific Time zone completely.

Ditto, ditto, ditto (except as a Seattle person). That infographic also defines a reasonable sunrise as being before 7am. "Reasonable" should also take into account what would be considered as too early of a sunrise. If we were on year-round standard time sunrise here would be as early as 4:10am in June and would be before 5am most of the summer. That isn't reasonable!
I'd MUCH prefer to stay on DST year round and have it be lighter later.

I guess what I’m saying is that change in 1 hour my body personally doesn’t have a problem because "losing" that hour is super temporary. For example, let’s say you move to a new part of a country or another part of the world where you "lose" an hour. Your body adjusts and you’re not chronically tired for the rest of the months/years living there still feeling like you’re on your old time zone. I guess that’s why I don’t "get" it with the example of now when you say you now have to wake up it’s 5:30 and not 6:30. I understand for some people they might have a bit of an adjustment for the first couple of days, but not for the whole 6 months until we change time again. Time is arbitrary.

Yeah, but during that time your body is adjusting it really sucks for some of us.
ETA - it's like what I imagine jet lag is. Sure, it's temporary, but some people it knocks them out for several days. There's a lot of us that even an hour difference makes it miserable.

Oh yes I get this. That’s why I said I understand some people need to have an adjustment period. But your body doesn’t think it’s 5:30am that whole 6 months. And yes I totally feel sorry for people who can’t travel because an hour or 2 time difference makes them miserable!
I LOVE the return to standard time. I actually call it my favorite day of the year. Having the light earlier in the morning and dark earlier in the evening is my jam. I'm odd and find the endless daylight of summer off-putting. I sleep so much better this time of year.
Same! But I LOVE the fall holidays. And I love it getting dark earlier. We struggle in the morning now because it is still dark when we get ready.

It takes over a week to adjust and that week sucks. And it’s for no reason at all. At least jet lag is for a fun reason for me (I never travel for work, so it’s fun stuff), this is just my already overtired is even more overtired for weeks for no reason whatsoever.

How late are your summer sunsets? It never gets later than 8:35 here.
The idea of switching to permanent standard time and giving up that nice 7:30-8:30 summer evening hour to get a 4 something sunrise makes no sense for us.
(We are often still outside during that 7:30-8:30 time and eat on the back patio a lot during the summer).

This is 100% me. I would much rather have it be light out when I have to wake up than have it be light out in the evening when I’m just eating dinner or whatever.

See, my kid’s bedtime is at 8 pm, so I don’t WANT it to be light out that late. If the sun doesn’t set until 8:35 then it’s still up when I’m trying to get them into bed. And my kid is already the WORST at going to bed, lol

Do they wake with the sun, too? Or are they good morning sleepers?

After 9:00, which means it's not really dark until 10:00. We have long days during the summer in the PNW. I have to get up before 5:00, so it's very hard to get enough sleep in the summertime

Bedtime at 8 seems good to me!
If H goes out of town during the summer months, the dogs get VERY confused when we go out for "last potty" and it's still light out because I go to bed so early.

8:35 would be so nice. I’m MN it’s just getting dark in time for fireworks on the 4th of July (10pm). @@@@@@@ Trying to convince my 5 year old it’s really bed time even though the sun is still up gets old quick.
