No. They were colonized for two decades. We did nothing to build a lasting structure for their needs, as evidenced by how strong a hold the Taliban was able to take the very day that we left. We did nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Exactly why I get outraged with the Border issues as well. The reason we get such an influx is because of the destabilization WE did in Central and South America since the 1950s with US Fruit Corp (Dole, iirc) in Colombia and the 1980s with Iran Contra in El Salvador, Honduras, El Salvador, installing Pinochet, etc. without creating an infrastructure or stabilization. They come here because we destroyed so much of down there. It's what we do.
