My kids are reading City of Ember in school right now because their focus this cycle is on cities of the future and building sustainable communities. I decided to read it too and it was a super quick read. Obviously YA, but I gave it 4*.

I am in the middle of In Memoriam, about WWI and gay relationships during it. It's very well written. It's for a book club. I finished Queen of Air and Darkness. I'll have to find a new book for after In Memoriam.
I picked up Alien Clay by Adrian Tchaikovsky at the bookstore a few weeks ago, and really enjoyed it, so I’ve been working my way through the Children of Time trilogy by him as well. It’s post-apocalyptic speculative evolutionary sci-fi. I really dig it.
I started the City of Brass trilogy and got through 1.5 books and gave up. The world is interesting, but every character makes predictably bad choices all. the. time. for reasons, and I got sick of them always dealing with the miserable consequences of their dumb actions.
I'm listening to "ADHD is Awesome" by Penn and Kim Holderness.
I'd like to hear your thoughts on this after you read it. I enjoy them, and my ds has ADHD. I got it from the library for him to read if he wanted to a while ago, but he didn't, and I didn't get around to reading it.
Has anyone read Night Watch? I'm about halfway through and considering not finishing it. Should I power through?
I’ve read Nightwatching and The Night Shift, but I see a few books called Night Watch on Goodreads and don’t recognize any of them.
It was the Pulitzer Prize winner in fiction this year, but I picked it up because a lady at the pool recommended it this summer. I feel like it should be good, but I'm just not enjoying it much.

I'm almost done with "The Righteous Mind", which is really depressing me. Seems to offer some really well researched explanations of why Democrats are continually so bad at winning elections. Doesn't give me much hope for the future.
I'm also reading "Endurance: Shackleton's Incredible Voyage" with my daughter. Which is a true story about a shipwreck off the coast of Antarctica around in the early 1900s. It's a great book, which I highly highly recommend, and relatively light and cheery reading compared with "The Righteous Mind"... although definitely not in an absolute sense at all.

My hold for James just came in so I’m super excited!
I also just checked out Pearly Everlasting, which is newish. It’s a Novelist recc and it sounds unique so I’m looking forward to it.
I checked out I’ll Be Gone On the Dark (non-fic) for H, so I’ll prob read that too. It’s about the Golden State serial killer.
The latest ARC I grabbed is Mothers and Sons by Adam Haslett. I know I should save the ARCs for last bc they are mine to keep but it sounds sooooo good. I might bring bit with me today so I can read during down time at the meet. I don’t really like bringing library books into the wild bc I’m kind of chaotic.

I FINALLY finished The Woman in White (forget if it was talked about here in the Oct. thread, I was looking for something with an Oct. feel, and since it's a classic it was available for free. It was more of a gothic feel than anything, yet terrifying in it's own way, but LONG and took me a while to get through).
I'm reading You Are Here for bookclub now, and I didn't remember why we picked it, but I'm enjoying it so far. The Children's Bible just came up on my hold list, so that will be next.

I read this and really enjoyed it. Both my boys (and probably my husband) have ADHD and it had some great insights and great reminders about why they do the things they do. I actually bought it for DH to read but he hasn’t yet.

I finished it about a week ago and really enjoyed it, but it was definitely heavy. It also took until about 1/3 of the way through to figure out all the characters.
I finished This Girl’s a Killer. It’s kind of like a female Dexter story - a woman kills men she finds deserving according to a certain code. And then it goes from there.
I gave it 3.25 stars. I felt the first 40% or so of the book was pretty slow. And then something that happens late in the book I just found very unbelievable and kind of abrupt. I can’t say more without spoiling it. Parts were engrossing but overall, it was just ok. Also some parts are pretty graphic if blood/gore bothers you.
I’m about 1/3 through All the Colors of the Dark. I’ve got Happiness Falls up next Just finished Between Sisters by Kristin Hannah which is old but it was one of hers I hadn’t remembered reading before

I’m reading All the Colors of the Dark right now, too. I really like it but it’s long!! Very different from what I usually read.

I finished The Grace Year and now I’m listening to Pretty Girls. I’m listening to it and finding it a little hard to follow, but it could be my ADHD zone outs. I love The Grace Year, though.
I just finished Evil Eye by Etaf Rum. I didn't like it at all. My hold for a Calamity of Souls should come up this week and then I have about 5 non-fiction books (Including ADHD is awesome) that I need to finish reading.
I'm currently reading The Wedding People. I just started it over the weekend and it's good so far, I'm about 1/2 way into it.
In my TBR stack for the month, so far: By Any Other Name All The Colors of the Dark Listen for the Lie
In October I read 9 books (6 physical, 3 audio): The Housemaid’s Secret- 3* The Friend Zone- 3* Please Stop Trying to Leave Me- 3* I’m Glad My Mom Died- 4.5* (Audiobook) The Return of Ellie Black- 4* Shark Heart- 4.5* (Audiobook) I really was unsure about this, but so many of you recommended it. I loved it. The audiobook was a great way to hear the story. Red River Road- 4* Here One Moment 4* Kitchen Confidential (Audiobook)- 3.5*

I've been reading all the sookie stackhouse books the last couple weeks. On #10 now. Been great to listen to as I get things done around the house, but has stopped me from reading other books.
Book club is this week and its my turn to pick the book. This is a very casual reader group, and I'm stuck. Was thinking of going the Romantasy route with either Fourth Wing or ACOTAR, (no one has read either, I've read both), or Frozen River (but historical fiction isn't very popular).
I maxed out my Libby hold list at 15 (most say months long wait) but alas, 4 have become available in the last few days! Thank goodness for being able to delay your place in line.
I’ve been reading Kairos by Jenny Erpenbeck and it was getting a little slow halfway through and I need something engrossing and light to get through this election so last night I switched to the Kindle First Read I got this month: Nobody’s Perfect.

My book club read both, and I think Fourth Wing was better liked and stirred more discussion. I think only the person who picked ACOTAR continued reading that series.
