I'm buying donuts for a volunteer thing I have in the early afternoon (because I know all of us will need to eat our feelings).
When I get home, I'm going to take a propranolol for off-label anxiety use.
Then I'm going to obsessively clean the house in an attempt to stay offline for as long as possible.
I'm going to eat chicken strips for dinner, because we ate chicken 4 years ago. Not because I'm superstitious, but because I'm lazy and anxious and in 2016 having a take'n'bake pizza very nearly ruined take'n'bake pizza for us forever, and I don't actually care if chicken strips get ruined.
Finally, I'm not going to sleep more than a few hours no matter what the returns are, because I'm already so keyed up I feel like barfing, and tomorrow is going to be worse.
I want to go to the high school field hockey semifinals but it might be snowy so I'm not sure we'lldrag ourselves out in bad weather. But I think that would be a good distraction from east coast polls closing and for better or worse will probably end right around the time the polls close here. So then probably sitting home watching some stream alone until it gets called for the night or I get too tired. I am not optimistic about it ending tomorrow.
I'll wake up early on Wed, look at the news, hope that I don't start crying and go into work for a management meeting that's going to last for about 3 hours. I'll probably buy a sweet treat for breakfast if the news is good and have a drink that night to celebrate.
Does anyone really think we will have a winner called tonight? Wasn't it like 4 days last time?
I wouldn’t be surprised if we don’t but I also wouldn’t be surprised if we do. Yes, it was Saturday before we knew last time but I don’t think that means anything. So many people have already voted so I assume early votes are already processed and will be easy to count. That also means a lot less people will be voting day of so it will likely make things quicker tonight.
Also probably wishful thinking but I don’t think it’s going to be nearly as close as 2020- that triggered recounts/hand counts in many areas.
SW Ohio: my H showed up 10 minutes before polls opened and there were already 200+ people in line. The parking lot of the church where we vote is entirely full, no spots left.
We’ve got champagne, tons of weed, a cookie butter chocolate bar.
We can celebrate or medicate during any wait.
Anyone having watch parties?
In 2020, we were driving from Michigan to Texas after election night. We got to my niece's house in Dallas just in time to get drunk on mimosas and celebrate. I pray this doesn’t drag out until weekend brunch.
Honestly, probably trying to go to sleep early since today is going to be a long one for me. Maybe watch some West Wing as a distraction? Tomorrow's a regular in the office workday for me so trying to keep tonight normal-ish.

I’ll be surprised if we know PA tonight. If we do that likely means one candidate performed significantly better and the state wasn’t super close. Otherwise, (I think) PA election law didn’t allow for them to start even opening / prepping mail-in ballots until this morning when polls opened, and doesn’t allow for them to start tabulating mail-in and absentee votes until after polls close. This year the Commonwealth states will tabulate mail-in / absentee ballots around the clock (instead of just working hours), with multiple shifts, but if it’s real close it won’t surprise me if we don’t know for a day or two. I will be surprised if it stretches to Saturday again, what with the round-the-clock requirement now.
While I'm grateful my company made election days (globally) mandatory days off, I really wish I was working today. I have a few errands to run this morning and then some deep cleaning for this afternoon and then a dinner to cook that's a little more complicated than typical weekday fare. And if all that doesn't get me through the day then I have a crochet project I can start.
Planning to have a quarter of a gummy when I get back from errands, but I've got a massive work day tomorrow so I need to be careful not to overdue it.
I don't think we'll watch much of the returns tonight. H will want to watch for a bit so I'm just hoping I can keep my cool until his curiosity is satisfied.
I bought a bottle of wine and champagne. I justified the champagne that I was buying it for the holidays. But if it has to be opened tonight...so be it lol. I still remember going to bed drunkish in 2016 and how horrible it was. So trying to limit the drinking.
I am making nachos for dinner. And I would like to say I am doing anything but sitting in front of the tv all night with my phone in my hand.
I did get a workout in this AM and I am going to force myself to go on a long walk at 4 pm. I am also launching a rebranded website at work today so I hope that provides some distraction.
I live in a very democratic area in a red state. I showed up to my precinct at 6:50 am and was 50 people deep. I am not surprised but other remarked that it seemed busier than usual. Who knows!
I plan to regularly check the news and stress eat candy while drinking alcohol. I hope to do some upholstery cleaning to keep myself distracted between news checks.
I'm torn between going out to eat to distract myself or staying in and working out when I get home to burn off some nervous energy. Either way I am sure I will be glued to the tv and refreshing this place from 8pm onwards. I have wine but may make an apple cider old fashioned instead. I was incredibly hungover after the 2016 election and don't want to repeat that so I need to decide which one I will sip more slowly.
I'm taking tomorrow off but need to have a quick call with our leadership at 7:45am. Thankfully we're all likeminded so at least we'll all be happy, anxious, or despondent together.

I'm also kinda flip flopping between doing something to distract myself where I *can't* be on my phone all night or just giving in and going with it.
I've been on vacation on election day for the last 3 years so I'm not quite sure what to do when I don't have, for example, Space Mountain, to distract me.
After thinking it over, I think I’m going to my gym tonight. I don’t know that I can take hours of watching returns of angst. I’ll get home around 10 or so eastern, so about the time west coast polls close. And I’ll get a few hours of watching returns in.

I'm also going to try really hard to focus on the good things today. I get to go vote for someone that I'm truly really excited to vote for! I haven't been this excited to vote for someone since 2012!

Can anyone tell me how I can watch Election Coverage today? I don't have cable or local channels, only streaming services. I know about Amazon, but am wondering if there are any other options. I'm willing to sign up and pay for a new service if need be. I'm so mad at myself for not thinking about this sooner.

I have attached ABC News live on Hulu in the past. I haven’t checked today but I have to imagine they would have election coverage.
