I absolutely can't believe he's currently at 267. Wtf. I won't lie I thought this wouldn't even be close, this is unbelievable.
I’m completely devastated. We know what it was like, we know the horrible consequences and we know the reign or terror that is being promised. Some people are saying today’s votes are a lot of GenZ guys that have been red pilled by the likes of Joe Rogan, Elon Musk and worse.

Woke up at my usual 4:30 wakeup time and saw PA was called for Trump only about an hour ago.
The underperforming basically everywhere was huge. Biden won NY with 60% of the vote, Harris is only winning 55%. The results will absolutely show demographic groups thought to be safely D pivoted in a major way to Trump. Queens, basically one of the most diverse places in the world, still went blue but Trump did 21% better there this year.
I am sure every kind of group will be shown to have pivoted toward Trump but I’m specifically highlighting groups like naturalized American citizens and non-white voters (of which Queens has a ton) because those have always been solidly D demographics. I am sure this will be shown as to what played out all over the country.
ETA: And the thing is, I saw this shift happening locally but I assumed that blue gains would happen elsewhere and NYC is never really reflective of the rest of the country. Guess I can put that belief to rest.
What if the president-elect dies or is incapacitated after the electoral college meets and before the inauguration? The authors of the 20th Amendment to the Constitution, the one adopted to provide for a way to pick a new vice president, thought of this. If the president-elect dies or is incapacitated the vice president is inaugurated. Section 3 of the 20th Amendment reads: “If, at the time fixed for the beginning of the term of the President, the President elect shall have died, the Vice President elect shall become President.”

He is likely to win the popular vote too. So we can’t at least tell ourselves the majority of voters didn’t vote for him.
I think it’ll just boil down to the economy. Price of everything went up, punish the party in charge right now. I don’t think it will end up being much deeper than that.
I thought i'd adequately braced myself for this. I hadnt. And the senate. We're so fucked.
And part of this result feels like punishment for calling his shit out. My gut says that some of the slide toward trump (how? HOW??) is people who saw the D's entire campaign call out the hateful fascism and weird cult behavior in real time and thought we were....hysterical. which is probably an particularly apt term.
Its a terrible catch-22 - we cant pretend its business as normal because its FUCKING NOT, but when we point poijnt out reality people think we're being shrill and crazy. Like "well, jeez, i see how attempting a coup could be bad, but why are you being so LOUD about it"
As if being uncouth enough to point out their flaws somehow is worse than the flaws themselves.
Like people who think being called racist is the WORST THING YOU CAN SAY. Somehow worse than the actual racism. That we should have just kept smiling through our teeth and played the game and hoped folks saw through him, because saying it out loud was...off putting. The banal racism and misogyny of it all is so so so depressing.
Our country is broken. Half of our voting public looked at everything theyve shown us and chose it anyway. Theyre either dumber than a box of rocks or actively bad and either way, i dont know how to fix it.

Can’t wait for people to start blaming the carrier over from Biden once he implements his policies and prices go up like economists everywhere have said they will.
I quit watching the news pretty early last night, after seeing how Harris was underperforming Biden in some of the swing states. I didn't want to fully admit it yet, but I was pretty sure of what was happening. I slept until about 3am and checked results on my phone. I figured that I wouldn't go back to sleep if I didn't. I wasn't surprised by what I saw, but I am still deeply disappointed and very worried about what's to come. For some reason, I'm less gutted than I was in 2016.
I am heartbroken for Kamala when she wakes up only to find out she has been defeated but I am hoping she would not concede but she probably will since Trump won in a landslide but I am very proud of Kamala and the voters that voted for Kamala regardless
They’re fucking around and gonna find out that Trump the savior ain’t going to fix jack shit. They’re going to get poorer, the price of everything will continue to rise.

The misogyny is palpable. Trump won both times against women. We're never going to have a woman President, are we? I don't hold out much hope for LGBTQ, either. Would Buttigieg, brilliant and personable as he is, have stood a chance against this, either?
It sucks that only 50% of our population votes, and of that small number, half of those are rabidly disgusting -phobes who would rather hate their neighbor than help them.
I am very deeply disappointed in our country, it makes me wonder if we are ever going to have a woman President?
Nope. The misogyny is astounding.
This sucks. I underestimated the voter enthusiasm among Republicans. I’ve felt terrible since Sunday and had a gut feeling we weren’t going to win. I didn’t think it would be such a landslide though. I was hoping for a miracle when I woke up but alas.

As much as I hate to say it, we can’t have a female candidate in 2030 if we want to win.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

yup, i said this a few weeks ago....if she loses, there's nothing but more white dudes from here on out....

Today is the day to vent and then we regroup, but based on what I see now, I don’t believe the country somehow became wayyyyy more racist and misogynistic than it already blatantly was in four years. Especially not when elections in between didn’t show the same evidence of that. Every single state appears to have shifted right, so internal migration patterns can’t explain this. We don’t win future elections if we don’t figure out what truly went wrong at the granular level. I suspect it will boil down to simple economics but there will be so much work to do.
