The misogyny is palpable. Trump won both times against women. We're never going to have a woman President, are we? I don't hold out much hope for LGBTQ, either. Would Buttigieg, brilliant and personable as he is, have stood a chance against this, either?
It sucks that only 50% of our population votes, and of that small number, half of those are rabidly disgusting -phobes who would rather hate their neighbor than help them.
Or the first woman POTUS will be republican. They've been trying to make that happen to get the 'female' vote for a while....

I went to bed late, still really hoping those swing states might pull it off. I sort of dozed and woke up gasping for breath, heart pounding, dizzy. Basically I was having a panic attack in my sleep. Thankfully I had Xanax, so I popped one of those.
I’m so sad and disheartened this morning. How are we here? How is our country filled with this many people voting for that vile person? I’m terrified for the future.
They’re fucking around and gonna find out that Trump the savior ain’t going to fix jack shit. They’re going to get poorer, the price of everything will continue to rise.

I WILL NEVER FORGIVE THEM.
They’ll still blame Biden
If Biden did not drop out, I think Biden would have won a 2nd term and Trump will not be able to run for President again so it is just really sucks, not that I am blaming Biden, I completely understood why Biden dropped out
Not that it matters, but she's also losing in MI, AZ, and NV.... he is up by 5 million in the popular vote
I am not surprised at the election results but I am surprised he is winning in the popular vote
CA is only 54% reported and WA is only 62% reported. However last time I checked, total voting numbers were down from 2020. Everyone gets mail-in ballots so TBD. I think there was some apathy of our vote doesn’t really matter in because we’ll go blue no matter what and we aren’t a swing state and some people abstaining due to Palestine.
The concerns in the back of my mind for the campaign were that racism and mysogyny always seem to fucking win in this country, the Elon $$$ interference attracting the bros, the misinformation about the economic policies, Palestine/ 3rd party votes and that her campaign timeline was so short. Half of the country is as dumb as a box of rocks and watched these constant commercials during football that were anti-trans bathrooms/sports and others that were like 🍊 is going to MAGA that seemed perfect and really wonderful and that seemed like a lovely lie to believe when your struggling to make ends meet. The RNC held Mass Deportation said and they had a literal Nazi rally at MSG and those weren’t deal breakers.
I was worried I was in my own echo chamber and feel like I should have done more for the campaign and to talk to people to see them straight on policy facts. People voted against their own best interest. I don’t understand how enough women, POC, LGBTQ, men who care about us, Veterans against 🍊, and Rs against 🍊 don’t make up enough voters to get an electoral college win against people willing to vote for that man. We had a flawless campaign with so many GoTV volunteers and they had paid canvassers that were a disaster. I can’t understand how people can go through what we’ve been through and so many people regret it and have this happen. I know GenZ is not aware of everything and many of them will love to regret it.
I'm glad I took an Ambien and went to bed and didn't try to look at results when I woke up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom.
How were we all so horribly wrong about the way this would go down?!
I saw something that says that the racism tree has deep roots and we just keep cutting the branches.
Also, I really think that young white men are being groomed online to be misogynistic pricks. The Zoomer men are not okay.
Without a doubt everything you posted is true especially about young men being groomed online. I can’t believe these events are unfolding but we need to do better by our boys and protect our girls. The question will be would you rather come across a whole pack of hungry bears in the forest or one man and I can guarantee that we will all rather press our luck with 3 bears

No. We can’t go there. Biden barely won in 2020. He wasn’t going to win this election either. People voted for Trump because groceries were cheaper in 2016. Most voters are incredibly uninformed about actual policy. I mean racism/sexism are always in play but I think we were always losing this election.

I agree. We will never truly know but I don’t think Biden would have pulled this off either. Covid appears to have created an anomaly.

Do you mean the electoral college? Biden won in a landslide 306 to 232 in 2020 but you are probably right though

Racism, misogyny, hatred towards others, and profound misinformation and a large population who believe it or who want it to be true bad enough are what lost this election.
I agree that Biden couldn't have won. This time should have always been about prepping someone to be the real candidate in 24 and he should have never run. I think that's one reason why I'm not as surprised. I was already pretty suspicious Trump would win before Kamala entered the picture. But she gave us a season of hope. I'm greatful to her and Obama and everyone who tried so hard.

About 158 million people voted in 2020. We are at about 137 million right now, with some states left to be significantly counted, but not enough to get close to 2020 numbers. Looking at some NY data alone, it could be less that hordes of people switched allegiances and more that people stayed home (along with switching to third parties, which is still reflected in the turnout numbers). And those people could very well have been people who voted D for a long time and felt for whatever reason that the party left them but they couldn’t vote for Trump either. We need to take that seriously and I don’t think the way to do that is calling them racists and/or misogynists no matter what justifiable reasons we may have to believe that.
Astead Herndon is speaking a lot of truth (IMO) in today’s Daily episode, if you want to listen.
Agreed. This is really good.
I listen every day but Just deleted this morning.....I don't think I can do any more "news" but I'll go back and listen later. No TV, barely checking the inerwebz. I'm looking for a few signs of life on social media but it's bleak.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

I agree with this 100 percent. I wonder what they will do in 2028 when their groceries are still expensive, their taxes have gone up, and everything else costs more because of the actual economy? Will they vote differently? Will they have a new enemy to be afraid of? Will they get to vote at all?
Biden wasn’t winning either even if he excelled in the debate. This wasn’t even close. The Trump campaign according to the Atlantic article thought they were sweeping with Biden in the race. So really nothing changed with Kamala. Lotz of work for the Dems.
Does no one in the electorate care that he will eliminate the ACA or about women’s rights. The numbers are just incredible.
I went to bed around 10:30 (west coast) when things were looking bad, read and read and read, and then spent the next 6 hours barely dozing and trying to will an EC miracle into being. (We also had assholes lightning fireworks at midnight.)
I'm so angry and sad and exhausted this morning. I'm scared for my LGBTQ friends (and my friends LGBTQ kids). I'm scared for Ukraine and Gaza. I'm scared about everything right now.
I don’t understand how there were multiple places that seems to be reporting record turnout but overall vote count is down by millions.
It might have been record turnout before Election Day. This tracks with lower turnout compared to 2020 - most people motivated to vote voted before Tuesday. The people who didn’t vote at all knew they wouldn’t because of the options and stayed home accordingly.
