I have a group of friends I made post 2016.We've all become politically active and friends. I'm glad to have had their support and will continue to do so.
I'm also glad I came back here after a long absence (see: the friends I made post 2016 and getting involved etc.) because having their chat and this board got me through last night.
I was watching MSNBC last night & in addition to the racism & misogyny, I do think it's the anger that Trump projected so many people resonated with. They didn't care about his policies or positions, but they liked his hatred and/anger.

And "It's the Economy, stupid." The electorate couldn't grasp that rising grocery prices AREN'T BIDENOMICS. The Republicans were able to ride that pony to the finish line, and the Dems just couldn't breach the divide between truth and belief. People BELIEVED they felt better under Trump, pre-COVID, even when things weren't in fact, better. The COVID effect and the "Good Old Daze."
Also, I won't be able to turn on anything other than HGTV and whatever channel is carrying L&O SVU for at least a week. I can NOT stand the gloating that will no doubt be happening. I think I'll binge watch West Wing and Designated Survivor and remember when the Oval had great people, even if they were fictional, and when the President, VP and most of the Cabinet were killed and it left only a decent human being who was in the Cabinet by fluke but managed to muddle through trying to make our country a better place.
I'm also dreading social media. I will stay in my little bubble, please.

I am numb.
My coworkers voted for him. My daughter is sick so I have to stay home with her so thankfully I do not have go deal with their gloating. I hope they will come to regret their decision.
I have to keep it together for my girls sake but it’s fucking hard.
I also am having a real issue with the language of how Kamala "underperformed" across the board. I know it's just electionspeak, but she and her team ran an absolutely incredible campaign. WE, Americans, underperformed.
100% and this would have been even worse if Biden had still run.
I think in some ways we were tipped off it would be bad when the unions and newspapers weren’t endorsing.
He will die one day. I hope our country can come together somehow, someway when that happens.
I don't want to seem preachy, but everyone please take care of yourself today. I know all of us are running on little sleep and a lots of emotions.
It all stinks and it's fucking awful. But I'm trying to take some lessons from 2016 to improve how I treat myself so I can (gestures at this country) better deal with this.

And AGH, SCOTUS... Yeah, if Thomas and Alito go, they'll be replaced with younger Heritage nominees. But Breyer is 86 years old. He's one of three we have left. And with the White House AND the Senate, they have nomination *and* confirmation of SCOTUS and federal court judges.
Biden, fill those slots between now and January. That's one of the VERY FEW THINGS (besides pardoning Hunter) that you can do to make this country at least a little bit safer.
Also, Breyer, PLEASE STEP DOWN NOW AND ALLOW BIDEN TO CRAM IN A YOUNGER JUSTICE. DON'T BE RUTH BADER GINSBURG.
ETA: But Manchin will probably phuque that all up for the Dems too, won't he? You know, the guy who stepped down but then decided he'd challenge Kamala for the Presidency even though he decided he didn't want to be a Democrat anyway?
I don't think they were smart/competent enough to cheat. The cheating they did was the outright lies, the Citizens United $, and the fact that Trump can say anything without anybody thinking it is really true (I'll deport everybody!).
I want to puke. I didn’t watch any results last night so my stomach dropped as soon as I looked online. Just, how? How can people care so little about others to re-elect this POS?

Honestly no they won’t be replaced by Heritage Foundation nominees, they will be replaced by MAGATS who are personally loyal to Trump above anything else, and that’s way scarier.
I hope Biden and the Senate Dems are ready to move lightning fast to fill any judicial vacancies. IDGAF that it’s a lame duck period. The GOP opened that door.
Today we grieve, tomorrow we get ready to fight like hell for local elections in 2025 and taking back the Senate in 2026.
Having to tell my 16yo DD this morning was so hard. I think it broke something inside of her, watching yet another intelligent, qualified, amazing woman lose to a monster. "But what about the popular vote?". I could only say I was sorry.

I mean “cheat” is a pretty broad term. Lie, con, deceive, all falls under that umbrella. It’s well established that the only viable way to swing a presidential election - besides swaying people - is to suppress votes in key areas. Between the Cobb County GA late mail-in ballots and bomb threats to polling places in south Fulton, that was certainly attempted.

Merrick Garland ringing any bells, you Mitch McConnell sacks of... And Amy Comey Barrett?
I'm in a raging Bring It On moment here w/r/t judicial seats. Honestly, my votes for the past 25 years have always reflected what I want to see on the bench. I vote for SCOTUS above pretty much everything else. Because everyone else can be voted out but SCOTUS is for life.
How? With so many republicans endorsing Kamala. With so many people in his admin saying he is dangerous… How did we wake up as a county and decide this is the future we want for ourselves and our children?
im honestly stunned that over 70 million people have been deceived by this man. 70 million. I really can’t wrap my head around it.
But as someone else said - I’m less shocked this time than i was in 2016.
Women will not no rights in 6 months, and I'm more scared for some of my friends. I fully expect to have to move in with my dad as my male guardian by the middle of 2025.
What do you mean by you expect to have to move in with your dad as your male guardian? Not being snarky, but curious. Thanks!

It's a cult. They believe what they want to believe//hear/see. When Trump/GOP tell such massive lies in a such a rapid-fire fashion, it's hard to even know where to start on calling out the bullshit. I do think "it's the economy stupid" and most people thought things were cheaper under Trump.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
I feel…less devastated than 2016. Because at least this time I had accepted it was a possibility, whereas I was in completely denial 8 years ago. This feels more like a slow crushing disappointment.
I think I am here. That was the night I lost faith in the American people - and I never really got it back, even as hopeful as I was this time around.
But I don't think it has sunk in yet, either. Right now I mostly feel exhausted. After all this... Here we are.
