(my own conspiracy theory) I'm worried that Trump will be killed either just before or after he takes office (shot, poisoned, etc) and it will be blamed on a 'Democrat', so that JD Vance can take over more easily and not have to piss off Trump's cult. And then the US will be his for life, ala Putin.
I mentioned a similar theory to MH a few weeks ago. They will find a way to remove him from office - either health related, legal or death. Then we’ll be stuck with Vance
I hope we’re wrong
I don't even think they'll blame a Democrat. I just think JD will try to 25th amendment him as early as he can.
Assassination of political opponents (maybe not literal, but maybe so)
Dismantling of public education
Revoking bodily autonomy for women and turning them into handmaids (again maybe literal, maybe not)
Complete end of the rule of law
This one I'd bet money on:
The dumb devil we know won't see the end of his term, and the billionaire plant Vance will be handed the presidency to do god knows what he was sent there to do
I really need people to understand that the climate change problem is an immediate problem. Last year the government spent $95 billion on natural disasters. Your homes and communities are in danger NOW.
I think this will be one of the causes of war globally, given where we are today.
Oh and I'm really worried about RFK Jr being in charge of public health.
I can't stop thinking about this as someone who has spent the last 20 years working in public health. Covid almost broke me, but the death by a thousand cuts in funding, policy, and staff over the last few years are killing me slowly. I don't know how much more our system can take before it collapses.

Agree and I think a war over water rights is imminent. Colorado River, Ogallala Aquifier, it’s all drying up.
I am terrified for the ripple effect this is going to have around the world. It’s going to be bad in the US, but it’s also going to hurt people who had no choice in the matter.
Quoting myself because H’s work already made some announcements today about how they are going to pivot in the coming months, due to the promised tariffs. When Trump was in power last time they dealt with his tariffs and it cost a few jobs here in Canada. It also negatively impacted the US consumers because lots of companies just stopped sending their products to the US which drove up prices there because the US supply couldn’t keep up.
So, I’m sorry your building and renovation costs are going to skyrocket (again) due to the cost of lumber. H has good seniority and his company has weathered many storms so I’m not currently worried about his employment, but a lot of the junior employees are polishing their resumes if we see layoffs like we did last time.
It’s really hard for me to even think about the future. I can’t get past how we got here. How did the masses make the choice they did? It’s terrifying. I feel like we are doomed.

To add, if the mass deportation shit tries to happen, the entire construction industry might fold like it did when Dubya tried it.

That we'll see the normalizing further of what 15-20 years ago would have been career ending.
Natural disasters will continue to get more and more severe and any sort of federal aid, if FEMA isn't completely scraped, will be given out based on how your electorate voted - down to the county. Parts of the western US will never receive just not federal assistance but federal firefighting resources either.
I’m worried about access to psych drugs. I’ve noticed a huge push against antidepressants. With RFK,Jr. in there, I’m worried about what will happen. Not just for myself (who has finally found the right combination to keep me in a good place) but for others, as well.

Oh, you think we have a housing shortage? Even if interest rates drop and there’s money to build, the tariffs are going to make construction materials like steel very expensive! We also won’t have the labor force. They’ll try to find people to replace them, but they’ll cost more money and be less experienced and less reliable, leading to more mistakes, time and money spent on jobs. Florida already FAFO when they scared migrant workers into leaving, then had some hurricanes and don’t have enough workers to rebuild. Buildings in places with good building codes / inspectors will probably be ok at first, but if they roll back a bunch of regulations, IDK if you’ll want to buy a new home in a couple years. It may be built with toxic materials or unsafely.
I am in need of a male guardian if anyone in the south knows of someone single and 50ish. He will get my property and $$ once the law is passed.
A lavender marriage is one solution. Find a lovely gay man and you can protect each other “Under His Eye.”
My brother, mom and I are all in West Coast states and we are going to call it the New Republic of Cascadia if we secede. He’s really worried about his trans friends and their healthcare.

And specifically re: home construction…if you think housing prices are bananas now, just wait! Because while locally we have a robust construction industry, it’s due to a combination of legal and illegal labor. We likely do not have the numbers to replace illegal labor., which means even fewer homes being built, and they’ll continue to not be homes most people can afford.

Is this in project 2025? I admittedly haven’t read it. So they’re planning to go after the FDA to take all meds that treat depression off the market? If I didn’t think things could get anymore bizarre and maddening…

Here is a list of some of what Project 2025 spells out:
Proposals from Project 2025, discussed in detail throughout this guide, that they claim could be implemented through executive branch action alone — so without new legislation — include:
Cut overtime protections for 4.3 million workers Stop efforts to lower prescription drug prices Limit access to food assistance, which an average of more than 40 million people in 21.6 million households rely on monthly Eliminate the Head Start early education program, which serves over 1 million children annually Cut American Rescue Plan (ARP) programs that have created or saved 220,000 jobs Restrict access to medication abortion Push more of the 33 million people enrolled in Medicare towards Medicare Advantage and other worse, private options Expose the 368,000 children in foster care to risk of increased discrimination Deny students in 25 states and Washington, D.C. access to student loans because their state provides in-state tuition to undocumented immigrants Roll back civil rights protections across multiple fronts, including cutting diversity, equity, and inclusion-related (DEI) programs and LGBTQ+ rights in health care, education, and workplaces.
ETA - I don’t think it’s a reach to expect that access to antidepressants will be affected, especially given that Trump has floated putting RFK Jr in charge of healthcare. He’s already said he wants to eliminate fluoride in the water and to stop access to vaccines.

I haven’t seen it in Project 2025. That is more about medicated abortions and birth control. My concern is RFK Jr and his ideas. He is has been very vocal about his ideas that antidepressants cause mass shootings. It’s also a common thought among the MAGA crowd. That we shouldn’t be changing our brain chemistry with prescriptions and that all pharmaceuticals are just bad. It’s been going hand in hand with the thoughts on vaccines.

Ohh got it. Obviously anything under the sun is possible but that seems like a small issue for such a big fight. I can see the pharmaceutical industry lobbying hard against losing billions of dollars in revenue. The pharmaceutical industry even spoke out against the lawsuit against mifepristone! I will certainly admit if I’m wrong but I think the pharmaceutical industry isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. And if RFK has enough influence to stop all meds in the U.S., the alternative is to get meds from other countries which people already do now. Community care is never going to stop!
-I run a local nonprofit that sponsors and welcomes refugees to our area. The program we use to partner with the State Department was started by the Biden administration. I’m assuming it’ll be cut as soon as Trump is sworn in.
@@@@@@
-We’ve been trying to have a second baby. I’m scared that I’m already pregnant (will take a test in two days) and that I will have complications and die because my Wisconsin doctors are afraid to intervene. Or that my fetus will have a fatal abnormality and I’ll be forced to carry to term. I don’t know what we should do going forward. Do we keep trying after this? Do we give up and just enjoy the one we have? I’m 39 and will be 40 in a few months—I can’t just wait a few years.
-My kiddo. We live in a very blue city so their school is super supportive, but rural Wisconsin is a cesspool right now and I’m not sure what kind of nutso bills these assholes will dream up at the state and federal levels. My husband and I already had the conversation about whether we’ll have to have them cut their hair to “pass” as cis.
The first one has already started.
I got the news from our sponsor group that the new administration hopes to move the entire refugee resettlement department to the Department of Homeland Security and reallocate all of its resources to "border security." My entire nonprofit is on ice now. All upcoming meetings are canceled until we can see what the new heads of USRAP and Homeland Security say.
I just had to tell my whole volunteer team over Zoom.
Everything is terrible and we haven't even fucking started yet.
I feel dumb asking this question, but is there any likely way to stop him from doing something of these items? The tariffs, appointing RFK, Jr to a position where he would really have influence, etc? I'm assuming no and he's just going to come in like a bull in a china shop but maybe you guys have hope to offer since I'm guessing quite a few of you have a better grasp on what's going to happen than I do.
I feel dumb asking this question, but is there any likely way to stop him from doing something of these items?
Some of it will be impossible, IMO.
You can't deport the domestic agriculture workforce, tariff the shit out of international food imports and lower the cost of groceries. He can't rewrite the laws of physics.
I'm trying to think of other wild promises he made, or coming from him they should be called threats.

Wild promises/threats we likely cannot prevent will be senate confirmations of deplorables. Plus, in his first term he just sidestepped confirmations and used "acting" positions. So even if RFK jr gives people in the senate pause (not likely because every R there is awful at this point), he can just say acting or advisor. His family members never got real positions, just all advisors
