You can't deport the domestic agriculture workforce, tariff the shit out of international food imports and lower the cost of groceries. He can't rewrite the laws of physics.
I'm trying to think of other wild promises he made, or coming from him they should be called threats.
Wild promises/threats we likely cannot prevent will be senate confirmations of deplorables. Plus, in his first term he just sidestepped confirmations and used "acting" positions. So even if RFK jr gives people in the senate pause (not likely because every R there is awful at this point), he can just say acting or advisor. His family members never got real positions, just all advisors

@@ I am terrified of how abortion bans will affect all areas of women’s healthcare throughout the country. If abortions can only be performed to save the life of the mother, how much of a risk of death would there have to be? I was 23 when I was diagnosed with cancer - an age where I very easily could have been pregnant at the time. If I had been pregnant, could I have survived if I was made to wait months to start chemo after giving birth? My cancer was a type that usually is slow growing, so maybe I would have been fine to be forced to wait. But I have lost several friends to the very same cancer I had, so maybe waiting could have been a death sentence for me. Maybe we could have gone ahead with a chemo plan that was less of a risk for the fetus, but not the gold standard of care that makes my cancer more survivable, and thus still could result in me dying. Or if we went ahead with the less toxic chemo, one that has a low likelihood of harming the fetus, but I ended up miscarrying anyway, would my oncologist be criminally charged for inducing an abortion? And this line of thinking could be applied to just about any illness. I am really scared that doctors are going to have no choice but to limit their treatment options for women.
(And I realize this is something too many people in too many states are already having to deal with. I am so fucking terrified this is going to soon be the situation for everyone throughout the country.)

I really hope I’m being dramatic, but I am afraid my family will appear on black lists for various reasons. I am afraid of vengeful retribution against outspoken Trump critics or even democrats as a whole. I’m afraid of the enabling of racists and bigots to be more open in their hatred of minority groups. I am afraid of what could happen with education and what will be taught in schools. I fear what will happen to women’s health care and how my daughters will be affected. I worry that the police will have free rein to treat people however they want without consequence.
Another one: that T will basically give Ukraine to Russia and it will all end in WWIII.

I could see this being like how abortion is now for people on medicaid in that a judge makes the ruling. So, someone none medical will decide just how much risk is too much. Some judges might say 50/50 is way too much and approve, others will want 100% (which no one can say 100% certainty).

stuffandthings - I volunteer with a very grassroots refugee org and we have no paid staff, but we are very worried about the families we support. Sending big hugs your way.
Apparently Marjorie Taylor Greene is being floated as the next Director of Homeland Security by Steve Bannon. (Independent & the Salon both have articles)

This is insanity. Everything is. This is somehow a new level.

Expect new levels. Constantly.
instability was central to his presidency.
It keeps the activism and outrage diffuse. By the time you can organize peelpo around one thing, he’s added something new and pulled the focus of half your coalition.
I fully expect JD Vance to take over by 2026 either de facto because Trump’s dementia catches up to him, or through death or by invoking the 25th amendment. He actually has some discipline and ability to stay on message. I don’t think he has much ideology (he’s shapeshifted so much within his life to fit whatever group he needs to please) but he is very very very interested in power.
On the foreign policy side, this is probably the end of American involvement in NATO and Ukraine will become a province of Russia. Israel will continue bombing whoever they please and there won’t be a two state solution.
China and India will become the new superpowers and US will be trailing behind in terms of world leadership. Many Americans will try to live abroad or get citizenship in Canada, New Zealand, Australia, Latin America, or EU but it will become more difficult if you don’t have an in-demand STEM skill. Many American kids will apply to and enroll in foreign universities both to save money and give them an edge in finding jobs in other countries.

My news feed is full of "how Canada is preparing for another Trump presidency" and immigration is on there today. The Canadian government just (last week? it was pre-US election) reduced it's immigration target significantly for the coming year. On a personal level, I have two coworkers that have returned to their home European countries because they couldn't secure Canadian permanent residency despite moving to Canada on a skilled worker visa with an in demand career. It is not as simple to immigrate as people want it to be.
Canada is also preparing for a surge at the border of immigrants who are in the US without proper documentation and will face deportation under Trumps promises. It remains to be seen if it will happen, but it's definitely something we have to think about. We are in a housing crisis of our own, with huge demands on food banks, and families struggling to make it in this economy. Caring for an untold number of immigrants will further burden our systems.
We're already seeing postings of 'your body, my choice' on every social media and even out loud, in schools and universities. There are a lot of men who see this as permission to rape and they will do it.

It’s hideous. I haven’t felt this frightened and vulnerable as a woman in years.
Trump to rely on forces that brought him to power — Russian presidential aide Nikolay Patrushev agreed that Trump, when he was still a candidate, "made many statements critical of the destructive foreign and domestic policies pursued by the current administration" MOSCOW, November 11. /TASS/. In his future policies, including those on the Russian track US President-elect Donald Trump will rely on the commitments to the forces that brought him to power, rather than on election pledges, Russian presidential aide Nikolay Patrushev told the daily Kommersant in an interview.
On the school bus, my friend's 7th grade daughter was threatened with rape because their family does not support trump. She's 12. They told her not to come into the cafeteria on Friday unless she wanted to be raped. 13yo boys told her this. So far, the Trump supporting principal has done nothing.
I would too. I suspect this friend will as well if there is not some movement from the school soon. Though her area is so red, I don't know that the police will do anything.
The 12yo is the gentlest child I have ever met. She still plays dolls with her younger sisters. She was not at all prepared to deal with this.
hermione . I am so shocked and disgusted by this. Sorry the family is going through it. Jeebus. I’d be documenting everything! Repeatedly calling principal and school board. Even in a red area, might there be lawyers to pursue this?
I'd be burning it all the fuck down and if nobody did anything I would be blasting NATIONAL media about this.
(Sorry can't regular respond for some reason.)
It's tricky. The 12yo is, of course, worried about making it worse for herself. The mom kind of is too. That said, she won't just sit back. I believe she has a meeting on Thursday with the superintendent of the (very small) district.
