It's so bad here. WE have a fire warning. There's a fire on the border of NY/NJ that is raging because of how dry it is.
"In New York City, for example, reservoir levels have dipped to 61 percent of capacity — typically, levels are around 79 percent this time of the year. New York City declared a drought watch in early November, following its driest month on record since records began in 1869, 155 years ago."
We were under a total burn ban (though it rained a bit last night, I wonder if they lifted it?) which was an interesting thing to happen while camping the other weekend. No campfire, no charcoal - propane only. And it was chilly! a lot of people left early. Can't use our grill or smoker.
I can't think of the last time that happened here.

Exactly twice in my many, many years of living in northern NJ can I remember having fire smoke, and it was from the Canadian fires a couple of summers ago and the local fire (which has been periodically giving us smoke since last weekend, depending on the wind). It is VERY disturbing. It was 80 for more than one day in NOVEMBER for heaven's sake.

I've never seen it this bad in the Northeast. Growing up we had droughts in the summer, but never this far into the fall.
I haven't seen articles about it, but I assume the hurricanes this year are part of the cause. Typically we get remnants September & October, this year none of the storms came north.
We have the weird combo right now of massive drought but coastal flooding in Brooklyn-I noticed last night the shoreline was wet from the river being high.

We are in a very minor drought here in PNW, which is a weird thought to have living in the valley. What has been more of an issue is that the unusual rain patterns have led to more issues with flooding since the rain isn't falling consistently.
Our local ski resorts are opening this weekend (which is the earliest in 15 years), so I am hopeful that we will make the deficits with snow melt run off next spring.

I'm north of Boston. We have had brush fires burning in surrounding towns for a month now, and are having air quality issues several days a week. I know those of you out west are used to this but it's very new to us!

All I can say is I am very tired of people posting to local social media groups constantly asking why it smells like fire. First, a million other people asked the same question. Second, if you are posting on social media surely you are also getting news on your feeds that we have fires in NY/NJ. Don’t need to watch TV to know this. No conspiracy theories yet about fake fires or anything…yet.
It was especially smelly today leaving my house this morning. Just left work, still the same.
The lack of rain has been nuts around here. I went out trying to dance in the measly few drops we had the other day.
Velar Fricative I'm also tired of people posting pictures of the sun when it's blocked by smokey air and saying it's beautiful. No sir, it is not beautiful in the slightest.
I live in central WA state in a semi desert with 9" of rain yearly. I know we're in a drought.

I did not realize the burn ban included charcoal grilling. Like you said, I’ve never seen that. I just told H he might not be able to smoke his Turkey for Thanksgiving. He is sad.

I don't think you ever really get used to it. It's miserable every time!

I hope the rain comes soon.
Agree that there's no getting used to it. That would be like saying Floridians get used to hurricanes.

I hope those who need rain get the rain they need. We've been MORE wet than on average this year and September held a record for wettest recorded in Southeast England. I think that's what the climate change is going to do to us - we'll get wetter and colder, unlike much of the US which will get warmer and more dry.

It's supposed to rain Wednesday night through Friday. Fingers crossed it actually shows up this time
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

Q: Are pellet grilles/smokers allowed? If a burning device has a stack or chimney, it may be used
depends what kind of smoker he has. Ours is a big weber bullet, which is a definite no. But like the pellet stoves where the actual burning part is never open allowed. What do you guys have?

Green egg. It has a chimney.
Ooooh, so it’s pellet grills/pellet smokers. I read it as things like smokers with chimneys and pellet grills. I hate it when things you think are clear are not.

I read it as something like a big green egg woudl also be a no, because the charcoal is exposed when you're opening/closing to put meat or coals or wood in or out, and that's where the risk of an ember escaping comes in.
Could be worse? The event we went to a few weeks ago, there was a group who spit roasts a whole pig every year. They already had the pig and were at the event when the burn ban was announced. So now they had an ENTIRE PIG and no reasonable way to cook it.
