We also did decorations this weekend on the inside and I love it. I thought it was early but a number of FB memories of today mention decorating so I guess it's not for us. But we used to travel for Thanksgiving so typically did it the weekend before so it was up when we came home so I guess timing wise we're on track. We were driving home Saturday night and I was commenting on how much I loved seeing all the decorations up so we did it on Sunday. It was nice to come downstairs today and see it all, it made me happy.
But also, I'm not really ready for Christmas and having the decorations up reminds me of that - womp womp.
hermionestarburst604 I have a ridiculous sports story from the weekend too. My son's team won their first hockey tournament of the season this weekend, yay! But during our second game on Saturday, it was a lot closer than we expected and I think that one of our players who is a little bit of a hot head must have said something to someone in the handshake line. Suddenly the other team's coach came over and was talking trash to one of our coaches, but the coach he was speaking to was a high school varsity player who just helps us out when he can. Our coach just stood there and listened to this other coach talk trash to him and finally said, "I'm a minor and you're an adult, do you really want to be doing this?"
tacokick, yea that makes sense! I don't want to spend money on a hotel 2 nights and we also like to get back Friday for our town's Christmas tree lighting which if we take my parents home, we'll have to book it there to get there on time, lol. Sigh. Love them....
I applied for a lateral position, but more in line with what I want to do and I am hoping for an interview invite this week. But I also know that my old boss who doesn't like me is in this office, so I'm wondering if she'll figure out a way to make it so I don't qualify for an interview.
I just looked at the calendar and realized there are only three full weeks between Thanksgiving weekend and Christmas week! That’s crazy. I am not ready for either holiday!
Also, my kids are done school on the 20th. How am I gonna get ready for Christmas with them home?!

Question - would you make an appointment with a rheumatologist now why waiting the the blood work? (earlier mentioned today that the skin biopsy showed the rash was being caused by an auto immune issue and that I may have rheumatoid arthritis, lupus or lymphoma). I know most specialist around us are booking months out so I am wondering if I should make one now and if it turns out it's not RA or lupus I can cancel. I know some of the blood work he said is so specialized that it will take longer to come in.

lust2hart , Thankfully we have a PPO so no referral is needed. DS has autoimmune issues (colitis and primary immune deficiency) so we have always opted for the PPO so we didn't need to deal with referrals. I just don't want to wait 2-3 weeks for the results and then it take 8-10 weeks to be seen.

Out of curiosity, who took the biopsy? H has a weird rash that keeps coming back and he keeps going to the dermatologist and she keeps giving him meds. I need to ask if they did a biopsy.
I hope your results come back quickly and you're able to get into a specialist.

A derm pathologist.. He did two biopsies - one to check under a microscope which is what what showed the issue and another to culture which so far has been negative. This all started in May. I started feeling very flu like - fever, chills, achy joints on a Sunday night. By Wednesday night I thought I had pulled a muscle and went to massage the area and realized it was a rash. Diagnosed with cellulitis the next day and started antibiotics which helped, but the rash never completely went away. It flared again in mid-July, same symptoms and treatment. In the beginning of September I was told it was shingles, which two derms have now said it was not shingles. It started to get painful and red about a week and a half ago and he had me come in for the biopsies.

Yes, same! And they don’t go back until Fri 1/3 so they are off for almost 2 whole weeks. That’s too long of a break, especially since H and I can’t take it all off too. 🤯

A derm pathologist.
Thank you for the info. I hope you're able to get some answers soon.

Mine don’t go back until 1/7. It’s so many days off.

Yes, I am preemptively dying over this. I really need at least a day without the kids to do holiday prep and I have no days available.

This is my last week of work. My toxic boss added a ton of things to the list he'd previously sent me as the things he wanted me to do before I leave, asked me to introduce him to my high school classmate who would be an amazing contact for his new business efforts (I was supposed to have a call with her, but she needed to reschedule to after my final day) and suggested that another person and I might do a 2 hour introduction for the person who's going to replace me over our lunch break. Yeah no, not doing any of that.

I have said for years!!!! That they need to make winter break shorter and give us some long weekends instead.
I loved our November long weekend. How about we take a couple days from winter break and do a February long weekend?
Two weeks is too long.
David's school gives them close to three weeks off. It's nuts!
I remember when I was a kid we didn't even get a whole week off for Thanksgiving! I not complaining, it works for our family, but I can imagine it's a total pain for parents of especially younger kids who can't stay home alone.
Tell me why my 1st semester 10th grader is writing an AP Euro DBQ for homework. This is really hard -- they haven't learned how to do this and it's not an AP class!
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”

Yep. They get nearly 3 weeks off and don’t go back until January 8th. I don’t mind the longer Christmas break but wish the extra time was before Christmas and not after. By January 2nd everyone is in a sugar coma and needs routine back!

We only get Wed-Fri for TDay. When I was in school myself it was a half day on Wednesday but they changed it to a full day off because so many kids district wide wouldn't come that day.
Christmas break starts on Dec 23rd for us this year. It feels really late. I can't remember off the top of my head when we go back though.

We have a long weekend in the middle of February (it's a stat holiday in Canada) and it really bridges the gap between winter break and spring break. I look forward to that extra Monday so hard every year.
In NY and MA we get a week off in Feb. only 3 days for Thanksgiving, and for some reason this year the district I work in goes back 1/2, but my kids’ district goes back 1/6, so that’s really fun to figure out.
Here the kids get off the entire week of Thanksgiving and 2 full weeks for winter holidays.
My county only has 8 weeks off for summer. They are on a "balanced calendar" with a full week for fall break, winter break (different from winter holiday break-this is in Feb.), and spring break.
Plus the usual holidays and teacher development days.

As a working parent, I find myself longing for a balanced calendar more and more, especially now that she's older.
I would love to have some weeks outside of the traditional school calendar for travel.
