True random: I do not understand describing fabric (like clothes or sheets) as "buttery". I love butter, but the primary feeling I associate with butter is greasy. That's not an appealing quality in fabric. I feel like I've encountered this description a lot recently and it really bothers me.
What I find weird is that it’s being used to mean super soft which butter rarely is?

My best guess was that it means the fabric is thick and rich feeling! And... I'm not really sure what a "rich" feeling fabric would be. Velvet comes to mind. Definitely something pleasant to run your hand over.

I nearly always hear it as “buttery soft” so not thick or rich imo. It’s almost always used to describe those thin, brushed feeling leggings/atheleisure. I blame LuLaRoe.

That's exciting for you all with big milestone birthdays coming up. For my 30 and 50 (just happened) I had parties and on my 40th I planned a trip. So far (ha just a few months) I like my 50s better than my 40s. I feel that I have a lot of time to myself since one kid is in college and the other is about to go. And currently both of our living parents are in good health. You of course never know how long that will last but I'm not actively taking care of any parents like I was for so long with my mom in her illness. And DH and I aren't worrying about my mom or his dad who were both sick so long. We still have grief since they both passed but unfortunately both had long illnesses during our 40s and they weren't ever getting better. I also have been better about not caring what people think of me and DH and I have less to stress about since kids are mostly self sufficient and he's retired. I can give him all the lists now and he's pretty chill not having to stress about his work.
Today I got away for a massage and it was so nice. DH got cut up celery instead of the sticks and it was a happy accident. It actually tastes fantastic on cottage cheese. Love the crunch. I am working late so I'll just have a light dinner at the office and I'm trying to think of something easy.
Anyone have any short rain boots you like? I have a pair of Hunter Chelsea boots but was looking for a cheaper back up pair.
I have these Target rain boots from several seasons ago and they've held up well. They are not warm, but as long as I wear warm socks with them, my feet stay dry and toasty.

I just had a meeting to orient a coworker on a project with my big boss listening in. I am working on getting big boss to sign off on a promotion and this kind of meeting is something that I think I'll have to do more often with the new title. I had been told in advance of this meeting the coworker has a certain background relevant to the project, which turned out to not be entirely true. I was lead to believe he had at least a working knowledge and it's more like he had a passing familiarity with the concept and no real experience. I think I handled it OK. I would have been better prepared if I had a better handle on his actual background with this stuff.
wanderingback, my sons used to think that all dentists and doctors were women as that was all they had ever had! And they were all also black which is to be expected here.
I normally WFH on Mondays and Tuesdays, but my motivation/focus on at-home days has been TERRIBLE lately, so this week I decided to come into the office all days. Y'all, I have gotten more accomplished in the last day and a half than the previous three weeks. I feel like a whole new woman.

When my niece and nephew were young, they spent most of their time with their stay at home dad and my FIL who was retired. Mil and sil both had jobs. They were surprised my husband had a job- “wait dads can work?!”
beerlover I'm also turning 40 in February! There's an establishment precedent for milestones in my close friend group. I've got the broad strokes figured out. I'll probably crowd source ideas here for part of it when we get a little closer.
ha, me as well! I found out my husband and BFF are planning a surprise party and I dont want one, lol. All I want is the money spent on that to instead send me to the spa for a day.
My H turns 40 a week after me, I also do not want to throw him a party. Although maybe something like a ski weekend away with some friends. We are doing a family vacation a month later.
My partner took our daughter to the dentist this morning. He took a picture and it is so so cute! She has a balloon, sunglasses and a stuffed animal. This is her 2nd visit and he said she did great!
Her dentist is a Black woman and her pediatrician is a Black woman. So thankful she sees this representation. I didn’t have any Black doctors until I was in my 20s. Another reason we’re not leaving this expensive ass city!
I love this! We also seek out healthcare providers of color whenever we can. I love that I can give my kids the kinds of representation that I did not have growing up.

My work just announced that those in my position have to stay late next Wednesday, do some work Thursday morning, then be available and checking email next Friday and Saturday. We work in manufacturing that doesn't shut down often, so I understand the need to do upgrades when we're not running production, but notice is critical when it comes to a holiday. A couple of people said they would have to cancel trips. My boss is covering for me because I'll be on my honeymoon, but I still find this situation to be ridiculous and another reason I'm looking for something else.

They only gave people a weeks notice that they are required to work on a Holiday? That is crazy.
I have a job interview tomorrow. I've intentionally taken several months off and thought that would clear my head and I'd be ready and enthusiastic to job hunt and start something new but.... I'm not? This job, if I were to get it, would be generally remote but require monthly cross-country travel. Do I want that? Who would braid my kid's hair for gymnastics class? H certainly cannot. Or would the travel be good so I have the literal distance from the daily grind at home to get excited about my career again?

Oh, no. I think I would have to say something. You deserve a spa day! A surprise party is about as far from a spa day as you can get.

Oh wow, good luck! Monthly cross-country travel sounds pretty intense. I go to Houston once a quarter and I find that draining enough. And your DD will survive gymnastics without braids, mine has for years Anyway, can't hurt to check it out.
I'm in the PNW and we're about to get hit by a bomb cyclone this afternoon/evening, with crazy easterly winds (which will probably take out a bunch of trees because it's both the first big windstorm of the season, and winds from a different direction).
If we lose power it's likely not that big of a deal for us because we have a generator*, but I was trying to hedge against losing internet by downloading some shows, only to discover Netflix is a bunch of assholes who removed the ability to download stuff onto laptops. I'm feeling very salty about it. I don't want to watch things on my tiny ass phone screen.
We're still downloading some things to our phones, because my H thinks we can cast from our phones to our bedroom Roku TV, but we've never actually tried it, so we aren't sure. It doesn't make me less annoyed though, because when I travel to see family in Oregon I want to use my laptop for offline Netflix.
*I put an asterisk here because twice now the voltage regulator on the generator has failed, delivering overvoltage to the house, frying some appliances, and we had to shut it off and be without power anyway. I'm always a bit nervous now when it kicks in.
followyourarrow - how do you find the absolute worst jobs and companies ever? lol I feel like you’ve had such bad luck with finding positions with just the most bananas expectations.

I don't know! But I really need my luck to change!
lavenderblue - I would absolutely not say anything unless and until you are told directly.
That is is what I figured. I just feel awful for them. I also think it's awful that her cousin is telling people (that is how I found out), it didn't sit right with me.
It’s also could be their plan. Sometimes, saying the words out loud again and again and again is too much, and it easier on everyone to let word spread organically. That said, I agree you don’t need to do anything right now.
I got three fillings yesterday. Last night, I was chewing some gum and when I moved it to the other side of my mouth, it got caught on something and stretched all across my mouth. Then I tried to find what it caught on with my tongue, and I thought I felt a crack. Spiraled from there and by the time I got in to see my dentist, I was sure my tooth had cracked and lost a chunk.
I get to the dentist, and he can’t figure out what the hell I’m talking about. After discussion, and lots of looking and poking, he took out the polishing then and rubbed it over my tooth. So I said it felt better. And we all agreed everything is good.
