And for Hamas leader Deir (who is dead per Israel). I know this will lead to nothing, but one day people will look back and be so ashamed of how world leaders supported and let a monster do what he is doing. Of course Israel is saying this warrant is anti-semitic. The watering down of that word is ridiculous.
I know I am a one topic poster these days, but sharing and raising awareness here, where I know many people read, feels like I am doing something to help stop more innocent people from being killed and exposing just some of the oppression Palestinians encounter.
If you follow Doctors without Borders on IG, you can see their posts that speak to cruel common practices that were in place prior to the war-like denying permits for Palestinians to travel outside of Gaza for medical care that is not available in Gaza. With no reason given as to why. I personally know people who were denied medical travel permits. According to the WHO, the denial rate is over 60%. In 2019, the WHO Director General made a series of recommendations to the Israeli government which included, "ending the arbitrary delay and denial of permits for Palestinian patients and no @@@ minor applying for a patient permit with the accompaniment of a parent should be denied that accompaniment” Not only were those recs not implemented, the stats got worse.
The WHO has diagrams and charts and data that speaks to the process and numbers.
I was just about to post about this. I don't know much about the ICC. How much authority do they have in actually carrying out an arrest? If he's arrested, what do you think may be his allies' response? I'm curious if Israel's parliament is nearly all-in with regard to support of Netanyahu's war on the Palestinians. Is there a hopeful majority that could turn things around and agree to a ceasefire?
I don't trust Hamas to agree to a peaceful end, either. I get stuck on that point. But I also can't support the violence and oppression that's being meted out against Palestinians.
I know it has taken me a long time to get to this point and I appreciate your tolerance and patience, fryjack2. Please keep posting about this.

If even his rivals are saying this is bad, then it feels unlikely that this will cause any political shifts that could lead to an improvement in humanitarian treatment of Palestinian civilians.
Seems like the ICC did their due diligence by checking with lawyers and legal experts including Israeli's former ambassador to the UN.
Certainly can't imagine they just went off half cocked on this, no matter how badly the US and Israel would like to portray it that way.
though TIL that Putin has a similar warrant, so...this really is more symbolic than anything. You'd think as that symbol that being in the same class as fucking Putin would give some people some pause, but clearly it doesn't.

I know my comment was additional info to show that they didn’t just Willy Nilly decide to put out the warrant.
To be fair, wouldn’t surprise me if Biden and others were next on their list for being an accomplice.
Even if it’s symbolic, I applaud the ICC for having the courage, ethics, and morals to issue the warrant.

I've been thinking about these lines today. There are certainly similarities to fighting Trump here in the U.S. in that even if there are no real consequences I think it does matter that people see leaders (like the ICC) making a stand, trying to do the right thing and make the world a better place.
And we never know. I think you're likely right that Netanyahu won't face any consequences, but we don't know what the future will bring.
Hugs. I know this has all been really tough for you and many others.
AJL, I am a Palestinian who accepts that Israel is here to stay and wants to work towards a world where Israel keeps itself within the 1948 borders, Israel removes settlements and ends its oppressive rule in Palestinian territory, and Palestine is a sovereign nation. That is not a popular opinion amongst many Palestinians or Israelis and can be a lonely place to sit.
I know we don't "know" each other, but I'm glad you "know" a Palestinian who is sharing a different personal history and viewpoint than what you may have been taught. I know that learning from my Jewish friends, even if I don't agree with some of what they say, has helped me understand more about them. And vice versa. One of my friends sounds a lot like you. She is struggling with supporting Israel while also condemning Netanyahu. She is learning more about what Palestine being occupied by Israel means and has asked me why I haven't spoken about it before Oct. 7th.
She is learning that Palestinians here have been taught our whole lives to stay quiet, to blend in, to not say anything because we will be labeled anti-semitic and we don't want to be targeted. We always have to be the bigger person, show restraint, censor ourselves, start with, "I don't support Hamas." in any conversation about Palestine and Israel. If you go back and read posts about Israel and Palestine over the years on this board, you can see the same. Calling what Israel does in the West Bank an apartheid system five years ago got people banned. Now, it's an accepted definition because it's true. Always has been.
This year has been incredibly difficult to be Palestinian in my town, in my work place, with kids in school, even in my friend groups where support and awareness of the atrocities and history has been vigorously silenced and people have been doxxed for simply saying they support a ceasefire while support for Israel is accepted without restrictions. I know it's also been difficult to be Jewish and feel safe for other horrible reasons.
I will always be patient and mostly tolerant when discussing this topic because I have to be if I have any hope for a different future. Showing anger over ignorance, and racism (not from you) gets us nowhere. I can't risk being seen as the Jew hating angry terrorist stereotype that people already readily think of when they hear "Palestinian".
