Is anyone able to save me some research time? I just briefly tried to look at apple.com but was immediately confused by the choices. My daughter uses her Air Pods daily. She lost one today in the snow getting off the school bus (she has always had trouble with them falling out), went back and searched but can’t find it. If she finds it later, I think it might be toast from being in the wetness for so long. Anyway, I have a feeling AirPods are back on her Christmas list.
What are good ones to get for teens? She doesn’t need like absolute top quality sound, but she uses them all the time, especially on the bus to listen to music. So maybe noise canceling?? I also don’t want these to cost a fortune. So an older model would be fine if that is a good way to go? . Recommendations or advice?

You can buy a single airpod. I think you just bring the one you have in and they'll sync them. We've done that when one of the kids lost one.
But if you want to get a new pair, in high school we got our kids just the regular basic airpods - not the ones that are noise cancelling. We did get DD the Airpods Max as a graduation present and she LOVES them for studying in college.

See? This is why I post! I had no idea you could buy one. We'll consider that. They are old enough that it might be okay to get new ones, but we can look at options.

My DD (14) and SD(21) are both big fans of the over the ear style headphones and are pretty anti-ear bud style, so maybe check in with your daughter to see what style she prefers as well.
My son just upgraded to noise cancelling because he was (rightly) concerned about how high he had to have the volume on his regular ones in order to drown out noise of other kids on the bus, during free time in class, etc.
He said that in order to hear the music and block out other sounds, he had to make it so loud that he was getting warnings on his phone about the volume.
He switched to noise cancelling and loves them. And hopefully will be better for his hearing long term.
So I guess consider when she is using them, and if it's usually when there are other noises. But I'd probably go for the noise cancelling if it's within your budget.
I LOVE the noise-canceling feature of my Pros. I use it when I go for a walk around my neighborhood and the amount of noise-clutter it cuts out is really impressive, including when I walk on a sidewalk that is parallel to a 45mph street - the traffic noise becomes just a low-level white-noise sound.
I also cannot get airpod style headphones to stay in my ears, especially if I'm working out/sweating. They were also incredibly uncomfortable for me. I also wear a pair that hook behind my ear and they're the best.

I don't have a recommendation on ones to get exactly other than to say that if I could go back in time I would not get noise canceling headphones for my kid. How many times have I said "DS go feed the dog" and he just sits there b/c he didn't hear me b/c he has his airpods in!

This might be one of those things that you should ask your DD about her preference before you buy. My kids are both picky about headphones. Any sort of earbuds don't fit well in dd's ears, so she prefers over the ear headphones, so we got her a good pair of wireless ones for her bday and she literally walks around wearing them looking ridiculous, but loves them so much. Ds, who never cares about brands, for some reason cares about brands for his earbuds. We are an android family, so he asked for pixel bud pros. When I showed him how expensive they were and said he could get those for Christmas but that would literally be the ONLY thing he got, he said he'd rather not get any earbuds than get just those OR get an off-brand pair of new ones (he has an older pair of pixel buds, but claimed one of them was malfunctioning).
If she finds it in the snow, you might be surprised about them working! I recently sent my 5 year old Air Pod Pros through the washing machine and they still work fine.
My DD is only 12 so we aren’t getting her AirPods yet. But we got some $25 JLab earphones that she absolutely loves. They’re these: JLab Go Air Pop True Wireless... www.amazon.com/dp/B09HN4DHFL?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Her friends with AirPods told her they like hers better than theirs.
I personally don’t like noise canceling for minors. They can be dangerous. There was a girl hit by a car years ago where I live because she ran with noise canceling. Also, in the classroom kids think it’s great to block out the sound of the teacher. That’s a big thing right now and many teachers don’t want to bother wasting their time asking kids to take them out.
Another potentially hopeful story: I lost an AirPod in the snow for hours and it worked for years after I found it! Using the "find my AirPod" feature on my phone helped me zero in on exactly where it fell off.

My daughter also has an issue with in ear earbuds and has been loving a set like the ones linked below. I got hers off of tiktok, but they look identical to these I've linked.

We have 5 pairs of the 2nd generation in our house. No issues, but we got them last year so there might be a newer version on sale this year. I think they were anywhere from $70-90 depending on what sale we hit

I would stick to standard AirPods. My FI had AirPod pros and he didn't like how they fit. He was going to give them to me for an upgrade to my standard ones and I didn't like them either. I have small ears and they didn't fit, plus I have to turn noise cancelling off on everything because it makes me dizzy. If I want upgraded sound quality, I go to my Bose headphones but not everyone wants over the ear headphones.
Add me to the list that can’t wear AirPods… I have small ears and they never stay in or comfortable at all. I am super cool used to walk my dog with my actual headphones plugged into my phone. Phones don’t even let you do that anymore!

I text my kids. Even when they are next to me. No one can freaking hear me. It’s beyond annoying.
Over the ear headphones are in at my DD’s school. H gave her his old beats. She loves them.

I have these for myself and love them! I usually hate anything in my ears, but last summer I was doing a road trip with my parents and realized I might want something while I was using my phone, but not have the sound on for the whole car. I told H to pick something for me under $30 and he got these at Walmart. Love them, and still use them. They are comfortable, the charge lasts forever, they dull the outside noise enough without being noise cancelling, and I love that they are at a price point that isn't precious to me.
