Friday night E asked to spend the night at my parents so yesterday DH and I had a huge chunk of the day alone. We ran errands, napped, and after I made cookies, picked her up.
And then I took her shoe shopping for some holiday parties and OMG I was about to walk across the shopping center to one of the restaurant bars. She wants heels, but I know she will take them off in 2 minutes, so I was trying to have her try on some lower options and then look for sparkly sandal styles to have as back up. One party is for dance and I know they’re going to be all over the place. We finally found 2 pairs, I had a coupon, and her feet have grown a ton, so we need to clear out some old shoes. Phew.
Today is baking, Thanksgiving prep, and possibly a trip to the mall to use up a coupon.

We're getting a lot of wind and last night everything was banging around and blowy. Neither H nor I slept well. I had to be careful where I walked the dog as there was still a very strong wind and we live in an area with tons of old trees. Went to a park versus the woods and still saw lots of downed limbs. Positively, the wind blew all the leaves into a small area in our back and front yard so I could easily pick them up after I ate brunch.
sproctopus, you recommended La Bruket Hinoki in a candle thread recently. I bought one and it is truly everything I've been looking for in a candle. Thank you!!!
OMG yes!! I am so glad you love it! It is such a good scent! (Also, I feel so passionate about this candle so someone taking my recommendation and loving it makes me so happy, lol)
rosiebear, I'm so impressed with your stand up journey! It seems like a very difficult thing to do well. .
Me too! DH happened up a comedy open mic night last week and man, I can’t even imagine the courage it takes to get up there! Some were very painful to watch (and why do men always go for the low hanging fruit of sex jokes? Every single man focused on that), but it’s admirable that people are willing to put themselves out there like that. Congrats on your successful headlining act!!

I just googled this... I'm sure it's delightful but I cannot imagine spending $75 on a candle. I hope it lasts well!
maudefindlay, it was hard to restrain ourselves! We ended up with a snowflake shortbread pan, slice and bake cookie mold, caramel chips, apple cinnamon jammy bits, cocoa powder blend, crushed candy cane, chai spice, garlic oil, potato flour, dog treat mix, Scottish toasting bread mix, the cutest little bundt Christmas ornament.

You don’t really ever steer me wrong so I felt pretty confident. Ha
I just bought one for a friend and am about to purchase another. I took the original to my office and have been using a candle warmer and all my coworkers are like “your office smells so good!” lol

You guys are gonna make me buy a $75 candle or $85 reed diffuser, aren’t you? Lol

I love the reed diffuser because my husband cannot be trusted with caring for the candle properly, so we use that one in our bedroom/his office. (He doesn't let them burn in OR will let them burn for 8 hours-- no middle ground with that doofus.)
After almost two weeks of deliberation about when to have our family thanksgiving, my mom called tonight to say that my brother's plans fell through and he can come on our regular day (sat) after all. Oof.
In the meantime, I found out that no one is coming to my MIL's on Thanksgiving except us. If I'd known, I would have just hosted every one and been done with it.
Neither of our moms wants to give up hosting holidays, but when my MIL is only hosting my family of 4, and my mom is only hosting my family of 4 plus my brother, it seems ridiculous to have to go to two different Thanksgivings.
Anyone read Frindle by Andrew Clements? It came out in '96. The author wrote a sequel, The Frindle Files right before he died in 2019. It was just released and is so good! (In case anyone else wants to enjoy a trip down memory lane and/or share it with their late elementary or early middle school kids.)
Our Friendsgiving last night was a great success! Everything was so delicious. It was so nice having drinks and food and chatting with friends for hours. A couple older kids that were there helped DS build a fort in his room that he's obsessed with and then all the kids walked to Sheetz for candy and slushies, lol. DS was in his element. Pic below, I'll probably delete it at some point.
After our guests had left, we had a couple other friends text to ask what we were up to, so those 4 came over for a drink and left around midnight.
Such a great day yesterday and I'm finally feeling a little relaxed going into this short holiday week. Today we're just finishing the cleanup and I'll have to go to Walmart for a small grocery order to get us through to Thursday.

I bought the little mini one to start, but you may as well get the big one. 😉
I slipped on the ice while out tending to chickens and smacked my face on a piece of wood. I'm rocking a pretty impressive black eye now.
The procedure I had to try to break up my kidney stone only ended up breaking it in half so I have to have a different procedure on Tuesday so they can go up through my ureter to break it up then remove most of it and place a stent. We have to be at a hospital 2 1/2 hours away b 6:30 a.m. We got a hotel room in the city where the procedure is and are having my ils come up Monday so ds can stay with them, and they can let our dogs out Tuesday morning. Then ds will go home with them to spend his break with them and my mom.
Finally, my dad died 14 years ago today. It feels like so long ago, but also just like it was yesterday.

We will check it out! 10 yo just read Frindle with their 4th grade class.
Random question - if you do adult stockings and still have Santa believing kids, do you say the adult stockings are from Santa too?
My observation is Santa traditions vary wildly between families and kids never seem to consider the variations to be suspicious while they believe. So I'd do whatever feels right for your family and try not to overthink it.
Not a parent, just something I've noticed in talking with my friends (both about our childhood traditions and what they're doing for their kids).
We are in Jamaica! We were greeted by rain, but it has cleared up and hopefully will mostly stay that way all week. We haven't done much aside from checking in, but we have dinner reservations at 8 and will probably go grab a drink before then. I am currently sitting on our deck looking at the ocean - the sun is setting so it's pretty pleasant to just sit here. My H is inside napping, but I couldn't get my brain to shut off so I gave up and came outside.
Tomorrow we have no plans aside from hanging out at the hotel. Maybe the spa, too. We don't usually do trips like this so it feels very luxurious to have nothing on the agenda! I hope we don't get bored, lol.
I keep thinking about the Thanksgiving I was really sick (like maybe recovering from bronchitis?) and I refused to travel 6 hours to eastern Oregon to have Thanksgiving at my MIL's, so my H went without me. I made the best turkey sandwich, and spent the day watching a Modern Family marathon.
It was awesome. I generally like Thanksgiving a lot, but I think I need more non-traditional Thanksgivings, because I'm kind of just over dealing with people and dealing with holidays.

We are kinda doing this for Christmas(after seeing my family the weekend before), plan to pick up a pizza to cook Christmas Day with lots of junk food and sweets. Can not wait.
Just bought 5 NBA tickets for H, my parents, and DS. It's our Christmas "experience gift" that we're all going to do (they'll pay for their tickets) instead of getting each other the same presents we do every year. We're going to see the Golden State Warriors @ the 76ers in March. DS loves Steph Curry so he'll be over the moon. However, OMG, the fucking Stubhub fees were absolutely nuts. $75 per ticket?! Why though? RIP my wallet
I had pumpkin pie for breakfast and chocolate peanut butter pie for dessert. So health conscious.

DS barfed on Christmas last year, so he and I stayed home while H and DD went to the family thing 2 hours away. We snuggled on the couch and watched movies for the entire day. It was great. I was peopled out anyway.
