Can you ovulate without an LH surge? If I'm seeing eggwhite, but the OPKs are negative, then I haven't O'd? If I'm not going to O, will my body still produce eggwhite?
Today, I have eggwhite that stretches 4-5", but the OPK is negative. The OPKs have been negative for the last 4 days. My CM has varied dramatically, sometimes hourly, over the past 4 days - it hasn't been a nice steady, logical progression of quantity and quality like the book says. I don't know what's going on.
DH is OOT and I'm going to drive to meet him, so I really need the OPK to tell me for the advanced notice.
You can get a positive OPK and not ovulate, so I would imagine that you can get EW CM and not ovulate. Really those just tell you that conditions are right for ovulation. If you see those, then a corresponding temperature rise a day or two later, then you have ovulated. The temp rise is the only way to confirm that you have actually ovulated. Of course, the temp rise only tells you after-the-fact, which is why people pay attention to CM and OPKs -- they give you a heads-up that you might be about to O.
So, with that useless comment, I say when in doubt...dtd. Short LH surges and diluted urine can flub an opk. And FF says that anytime before O if you detect fertile cm, you are potentially fertile.
Are you staying with your DH a few days, or just going to meet for like a night??

You can get ewcm anytime during your cycle. Are your opk's getting any darker, or staying very light? I get a fade in pattern, so my opk's get darker then boom, positive, then lighter again.
He works and lives OOT, so this whole business will be quite complicated lol. (We'll be back together soon.) I was going to drive to see him, but the eggwhite's gone this evening and another OPK is still negative. But eggwhite's come and gone 3 times already this cycle, so
Radishes, thanks so much for the tip on the lines getting darker. I've been testing twice a day when the other signs suggest it and I'm not sure if the lines have gotten darker or if I'm just imagining/wishing. I'll look for that. If this was it, I don't see how 6 tests in 3 days could all be negative, but again,

Not everyone gets a fade in. Some people go from no test line to a positive. I notice that I'll start getting darker test lines, then it will be positive for a day or two, then get lighter again.
I get fade ins, but have a very short surge, si I've actually only had a full-on positive opk once. I do see it get darker and darker and then suddenly lighter and a day later I have a temp spike, so despite the negatives, I know what's happening. It took me a couple of cycles to figure it out though.
And I know nothing about EWCM like that, never had it stretch more than a quarter inch, so no help there.

This is exactly the same as me. I get the fade-in, but MAYBE catch a positive. I pretty much just assume a close to positive is a positive (in re: to having sex, not necessarily putting that into Fertility Friend).
Thanks, neva and NL. I didn't realize a surge that wouldn't be caught was an option, so I'll definitely may more attention!
No temp spike this morning, so yesterday wasn't it. Maybe there's a chance it'll show up when DH and I were planning to meet with each other anyway this weekend.
I usually try to test in the morning, early afternoon, and then when I get home from work.
I use wondfo's at home in the morning and after work, and then the ClearBlue stick ones at work (because I always pee on myself with a cup which I don't want to do at work, lol).
It's definitely more often than I've seen recc'd but I know I have a short surge so I want to make sure I catch it.
Still no temp surge and I just tested and I swear the lines are darker! Thank you guys so much for that tip - I'm using the fancy digital test and I probably wouldn't have thought to check the test itself if the screen said no. The EWCM is back after coming and going. I have a planned visit to DH this weekend and I'll get there around 7 tomorrow night, if O will just wait!
