fevers come on quick??? that makes no sense in the argument for it being important to take the temp at all visits... that's just silly - if that's the rationale- then you should be taking your kid's temp all day long b/c you just never know when they are going to get one - they come on quick!
seriously - fevers that are 101 and under are not a big deal in young kids (other than infants)... if you DID take your child's fever all day long you'd see that they vary a lot. My twins had something called "FUO" - fever of unknown origin. They were running fevers from 99-102 for WEEKS... but otherwise not sick. We had to see a infectious disease doc and have tons of testing done to rule out cancer, RA, etc. It was a shitty time --- and it turned out to just be FUO - which can't be explained in about 2/3 of the cases in children (in adults it is almost always very bad = cancer, etc).
So, as someone who HAS taken my child's temp a LOT in the past year b/c of that - I can tell you, normal is a huge range - and unless your child FEELS warm or is acting sick- there is no reason for a pedi to take the temp.
Docs vary a lot in how they practice -- this is a MINOR way that they do.
Do you guys get your temps taken when you go to the doctor for yourself? Mine always does. Temp, bp, height, weight, pulse. Every time. Even if I'm in there needing like a refill on antidepressants or something.
I can't remember the last time I've had any of these things done at a doctor's office.
I get bp everytime, and height/weight most of the time, but never temp unless I'm there for an illness.
