So I went back to my GP this morning to see the other (older, male) doctor to see if he would give me the referral.
He looked at my file, saw what Monday's doc had said and before I even started pleading my case he said "I have to disagree with him. Maybe it's his lack of experience, but with your age, your other health issues and the fact that you've been seriously trying for half a year, I strongly advice you to see a gyno. You just don't have the time to just keep trying on your own."
He added that, had I been 25 or so, he would have me just try for a bit, but in my case I need to get to a specialist!
I also asked him for a new painkiller prescription and he gave it to me, but not without warning me about effects on a baby once I get pregnant, so please don't take it when you think you are pregnant. He also added what kind of weaker meds would be acceptable in that case.
He really was super nice and thoughtful. I feel so so much better now.
He did refer me to a different hospital as he said they're just the best in this field in our area, so there is a bit of a wait, but we (DH has to come in for the first appointment ) are in for Nov 9th.
That's fantastic! I'm so glad you went again. Way to go for persisting. I hate to think how many people walk away from dr appointments disappointed or confused because they are too afraid to question the authority of doc.
I can't say how happy I was with him being so responsive. And him stating -without being asked- that he disagreed with the other guy. That just really validated the fact that I felt so crappy about it. I was already looking into finding another one, but that's always such a drama as well, as you never know whether they're actually any better.
I wish, wish, wish my childhood GP hadn't retired. He was awesome (though I think he's like 75 now or so, so he deserves to not work anymore, but really, he was awesome!)
Anyways, I got my referral, my appointment and things are rolling. From now on when I need an appointment with the GP, I'll make sure to ask if the appointment is with today's guy though.
