I had a 1992 Jeep Wrangler that I named Bugsy in college. It has now retired to my parents vacation home and everyone still calls him Bugsy. The kids call our Toyota the 4nunner but just because dd couldn't originally say 4runner and it just stuck.
ETA: to me naming a car should be something that just happens. Bugsy came about when my friend and were driving to Vermont from Minnesota. I'm not sure either of us remember where the name even came from. So I wouldn't try to force a name
I agree that naming a car just kinda happens over time. I don't actually give my cars names, but my old car was lovingly referred to as "the little blue engine that could". It truly lived up to its name.
Now that it's the little blue engine that can't, I have a new car and I haven't named it. I don't know what I would name it. There's nothing sexy about a Subaru wagon It's just our ski car. We do sometimes refer to it as Coco's limo though (she LOVES car rides).

I usually name my vehicles. I didn't name the Magnum, because I could never think of something better to call him than "The Magnum." I am picky about my cars and when I get one, I love it, so I name it...it's my friend.
Ford Festiva - Cheshire (front looked like a big cheshire grin) Plymouth Breeze - Elmo (it was all red) Nissan Frontier - Bob (That was the salesman name and he gave me a really good deal) Nissan Xterra - Tank (Because I felt like I was driving a tank) Nissan Rogue - Roger Rogue
And now I have a Jeep Liberty I call Lucky Liberty because we bought it on Friday the 13th and we got a frickin amazing deal.
I have helped name 2 other people's cars at work. I like having a name for the car. H thinks it's kind of silly but I figure I spend a lot of time in the car it might as well have a name.
An important question to ask...is your car male or female?

callie is one of my fav names for babies. lol, love it. and it could totally work, i'll think on that. callie is definitely a good one, since h won't use that because it's close to his name.
H has a camaro I sooooo desperately want to name but he has nixed that. He has a jetta for a commuter car that I sometimes drive that I call Jerry Jetta.
Oooh, I wanna jump in on this one! I've been searching for a name for my car, too. It's an 2010 orange honda fit sport. Sometimes we call her the Thunder Pumpkin, but I want just a one-word name. Any ideas?
My first car I drove was in high school, a 1987 Ford Mercury Marquis station wagon in silver. All my friends had named their cars (the best being the geo named Gordy the Sex Pot). One of them deemed my car "The Silver Bullet".
My first car I owned was a red 1989 Ford Ranger XLT in red. I could tell the name started with an R, but everything I tried didn't stick. Then one day it dawned on me while driving, and I asked aloud, "Is the problem that I'm wrong and you're a boy?!" And somehow, I felt pleased. Yup, so he duly become "Rory".
My current car doesn't quite have a name, I kept waiting for something to feel right. It's been 5 years and while I know it's a she, I'm not sure (2002 Mazda Protege in white). I tried Chiclet off and on but didn't quite like it. I'm now thinking maybe Bianca.
