I had terrible heartburn while pregnant. I still have it now, but not nearly as bad as when I was pregnant. Usually when I eat red sauce or something really greasy.

I had it horribly my first pregnancy, pretty much constantly from the day I hit my second trimester till the day I gave birth. As soon as he came out it was completely gone until my second pregnancy, and luckily I didn't have it that often the second time around. And I haven't had it since then, but I'm guessing it is my near future.
My second pregnancy, I found mylax (while not by any means a pleasure to chug down) was personally much more effective than tums were. I'm sure everyone is different (for instance, Prilosec did nothing for me), but may be worth a try.
I had horrible heartburn, mostly in my back during my second trimester. Tums didn't touch it, Maalox extra strength was the only thing that kinda helped. it went away as soon as I had Mia. I have gotten a mild dose of the back heartburn once or twice since.
