I need to show this thread to my H. He's all Chicago is AWESOME and shit. I'm just, dude no. I can't live any place where there can be snow on the ground in April. Having watched that Nightline show last night and reading this thread, I sure in the hell hope all of ya'll can eventually just move. I don't know how you save a city where you just randomly punch people for no good reason.
I haven't lived like all over the country or anything. I lived in Bloomington, IN; Indianapolis, IN; and here (and a summer abroad which doesn't count). DH has lived in NC, CA, IN, and IL. I have family in CA, TX, GA, MA, NY, CO.... Of the places DH and I have lived and the comments I hear from friends or family in other states, Chicago, by far, has the most fucked up relationships between races of anywhere. More tension, more violence, more resentment, more corruption, more segregation, more hostility.
On this board, or in Indianapolis, or whatever, if I see a black woman, I really make no assumptions about anything. I don't make assumptions about where she lives or goes go school or what her political views are... In Chicago, if I see a black woman, I assume she hates my ass. Hates it.
I don't think it's quite as comparable to Chicago, but St. Louis has very messed up relationships with race as well. It's kind of Chicago-lite.
