Even though DH will probably veto my idea, I'd like to travel down in altitude a bit for a marathon and I'd like it to be as late fall as possible so that I don't have to begin training until things cool off a bit here. So I'm looking for a few options to present to him and sell my case.
Anyone have any suggestions or experience? Bonus points for easy (and cheap) travel.
Detroit is mid October, and you get to run into Canada! Everyone I know that has run it has had a great time with it. I work in Detroit and can give you some pointers (it's not that bad here, I swear!), plus DH is running it this year for the first time.
Detroit was great for me. You could come to Grand Rapids (10/21 I think?) and see me, though! I'll likely be volunteering and/or running with friends who need encouragement...
It sure is beautiful down here in Albuquerque in the fall . Just a quick trip down I-25. Duke City Marathon on 10/21.
Albuquerque is *higher* in altitude than where I live in Colorado!
Although I'll be down there June 1-3...let's go for a run!
Lol, I just edited my post b/c I realized it just might be higher. I'm from Co Spgs, so I must subconsciously use that as my alt benchmark. And dammit if I'm not out of town that weekend! You would school me, anyhow! Enjoy your time down here.

Long Beach, CA is in October, and you don't get any lower altitdue than beach running. It's a pretty nice course with decent crowd support, and several airports you can fly into. It'll be my second race this year, so I highly recommend it!
Come to Indy for the Monumental Marathon the first week of November. It is a flat course with a total elevation gain of 325 feet and the temperature is usually in the 40's, perfect for running!

I don't know about travel to other places, but I've run a few times in LA (thinking the Long Beach one) and it will be really nice/slightly warmish in the fall. Our family still lives in CA and we fly there often, SUPER easy to get cheap plane tix. Good luck!
The weather is usually pretty much perfect for marathon running.
I was planning to do Savannah, but that fell through and now we are thinking about Philly. I'm just not sure if I am willing to bite the bullet and run a full.
MCM in DC is the last weekend in October. It's sold out, but they allow bib transfers through the end of August. Come June/July people are going to start realizing they cannot run for various reasons and start looking to unload bibs.
Detroit was great for me. You could come to Grand Rapids (10/21 I think?) and see me, though! I'll likely be volunteering and/or running with friends who need encouragement...
I'll be running GR this fall!!
I suggest Detroit or Grand Rapids marathon. Both are on October 21st.
Another vote for Twin Cities! It's not exactly late fall - Oct 7 - but it is the "most beautiful urban marathon in America!" I'm still contemplating signing up...
