Yes. You can pull her off at letdown and let it spray into a cup or towel. I was hand expressing a bit before nursing. The older they get the more they can handle. Caleb still coughs and chokes every now and then, but it's much better overall.

I didn't have that problem at all, so I can't give advice. I happened to see you respond to my friend Leah's FB message about moving to Texas. I would send her an FB message about it. She is an awesome LC and has helped people with all kinds of problems. I know she is busy as they all just moved last weekend, but I know she will do whatever she can to help you when she sees your message. She rocks like that.
I had an overactive letdown and I found that laying on my side in bed and nursing her in bed made it better. It was so bad that she would choke all the time I fed her (especially on my left side). I would also hand express, but it usually didn't work that well. Only thing that worked for me was side nursing.

Thanks ladies. I chatted with a LLL leader tonight and we do suspect it's overactive letdown. I'm going to cut out pumping and try block feeding. Maybe I'll pump one side in the am if I just feed from the other. Kinda makes me sad that I can't build a big stash, but I don't want Sammy to turn away from brestfeeding.

Duh, block feeding. I knew I was missing something critical. I did this for awhile as well, but have since stopped. You can Also lean back while nursing, and that will help.
A big stash isn't so important if you can atleast pump the amount of milk she will need for the next day. With you working from home worst case scneario you let her cluster feed at night if she hasn't gotten enough throughout the day (or just wants more)

I just read about block feeding and this is kind of what I did in the beginning but I didn't know it was a real thing. I did it on my own more because I used to worry about her getting all the hind milk. Maybe that's why my early oversupply corrected itself?

Yes. I've been able to mostly correct my oversupply this way.
